CHALLENGESTAPLES Center wanted to do something spectacular to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this iconic venue. STAPLES Center is the centerpiece of activity for L.A. Live, and over the course of the past 10 years, the technology on the exterior at L.A. Live had surpassed the experience inside STAPLES Center.
As a result, they chose to upgrade a new center-hung display. With that, the building needed a comprehensive upgrade, including cameras, control room and graphics systems to complement this new center-hung display.
The challenge in upgrading the facility was the extremely limited amount of time to complete the work (roughly 25 days of actual installation time) and the fact that all this needed to occur while increasing the number of displays (from 8 to 14) and the pixel density of the displays (more than doubled), all without increasing the weight.
Panasonic’s design team created the most visually striking large-LED center-hung display in the industry, including a unique 4-board design under the main structure that provides STAPLES Center’s highest-paying attendees the same full-motion video experience that those in the upper decks see. All of this was done without exceeding weight restrictions, meeting one of the most aggressive installation schedules of any large-scale project.
