4-HOnline is now open for enrollment for the 2018-2019 4-H year! At the link below you will find information on how to enroll in 4-HOnline and a copy of the 4-H Project Guide. Questions about enrollment? Please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or 683-4169. https://manitowoc.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-development/4-h-online-enrollment/ Please note, current 4-H youth members must re-enroll by October 31, 2018 to be able to participate in the 2019 Manitowoc County Fair!

American Spirit Trip

One of the many fantastic educational travel experiences offered through 4-H is American Spirit and this year it has been expanded to three different opportunities! One of the three experiences (June 12-20) is being facilitated by counties in Eastern Wisconsin and has a different registration process than the other two experiences whose registration is through 4HOnline as all the other educational travel experiences are. Please read the details below carefully to understand the differences between the experiences and ensure you are following the appropriate registration process.

Experiences on June 7-16, 2019 or July 5-14, 2019 Estimated cost is $1,400 Travel with approximately 40 4-H members from throughout Wisconsin No capacity of how many youth per county can register Registration: Open in 4HOnline Wednesday, November 7, 2018-January 10, 2019 Registration for travel week preference will be done on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a wait list created for each week in case of cancellations. If you need help registering through 4HOnline, please consult this document. The state will contact youth directly to notify them which travel week they will be on or if they are on a waiting list.

Experience on June 12-20, 2019 Estimated cost is $1,300 Travel with approximately 40 4-H members from counties in Eastern Wisconsin Each of the counties in the area can send 0-4 youth. Each county is guaranteed space for 2 youth attend this experience. Each county can also identify an additional 2 youth that will serve as alternates since not all counties have two youth interested. Registration: Please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169, if you are interested in attending this trip. Note: The Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association provides partial funding (50%) for educational trips. Funds are limited, and are provided on a first come, first served basis. Applying for funding does not guarantee youth a spot on the educational travel experience. Also, any 4-H member can register for an educational travel experience, regardless if they’ve received partial funding or not. If youth don’t receive funding, or for any reason, youth can cancel from an experience. Specific cancellation dates will be provided for each experience.

Club Officer Training – Saturday, November 10th

There will be a training session for Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, Club Reporters and Camp Representatives/Reporters on Saturday, November 10th at the Manitowoc County Office Complex at 4319 Expo Drive, Manitowoc. A change this year is that all club officers will meet at the same time – from 9:30 – 11:00 am and a pizza lunch will be served from 11:00 – 11:30 am. It’s important that all of the listed officers attend, even if you have previously held an office or have been re-elected to the same office. You’re a valuable resource and we would like you to share your officer experience with youth who are just starting to serve in club leadership roles. Club leaders, please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169 by Friday, November 2 with the number of officers from your club that will be attending the training.

Record Books and Scrapbooks Evaluation

Record Books and Scrapbooks will be evaluated on Saturday, November 3, at 9:00 am, at the Manitowoc County Office Complex. Helping to evaluate Record Books and Scrapbooks is a great way for older youth and adults to learn about Record Books and Scrapbooks and to discover what youth are doing in 4-H. If you can help, please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169 and let her know! We need about 8-10 people to help evaluate the books, so please call today!

30 Days of Doing 30 Days of Doing is a chance for kids across the nation to do with purpose through hands-on learning. Through activities in agriculture, STEM, community service, healthy living and more, 30 Days of Doing will help kids gain the skills they need to be successful in life—and have fun along the way. During the next year challenge yourself to complete 30 Days of Doing. Check out the link below for an example of 30 things to do! http://4-h.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/4H-30-Days-of-Doing-Inspire-to-Do-List.pdf

Calling all Doers National 4-H Council is looking for 4-H youth of all ages, educators, leaders, volunteers and parents from our 4-H States and Clubs who have original ideas for fun, educational and/or service-oriented hands-on activities to be featured in Council’s brand campaign later this fall. For example, do you have a step-by-step guide for growing a bean in a bottle to teach kids about agriculture? Or instructions for organizing a trash pickup day in your community? Or a favorite healthy recipe you make for friends and family? We’d love to hear them, and have the opportunity to feature the great ideas, kids, 4-H clubs and University extension programs bringing them to life. Go here to submit your activity - https://4-h.org/30-days-of-doing-activity-submission/

Haunted Voyage Food Stand

Camp TaPaWingo is working with Garrett Zima again this year to bring a haunted event to camp as a fundraiser. The haunted event is called “Haunted Voyage,” and we are looking for clubs to help run the food stand at the event. We have created a Sign-up Genius for the dates and times the food stand will be running at the Haunted Voyage this year at Camp TaPaWingo. Working at the food stand will be a fundraiser for your club, and all profits from the food stand will be split among the clubs that participate. We will need about 3-4 adults/older youth to staff the food stand and a couple of extra adults/older youth to help with parking. Adults and older youth who help at the food stand receive 50% off the admission to the Haunted Voyage. The shifts are from 6:30 – 10:00 pm. The menu will be simple – hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, pretzels, soda and a few other items. See the links below for the Sign-Up Genius and the Haunted Voyage. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040b4eadaa22a46-20181 https://www.hauntedvoyage.com/

National 4-H Week

For the 76th consecutive year, millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will celebrate National 4-H Week from October 7-13. This year's theme, Inspire Kids to Do, is a campaign that will give kids more opportunities to do, empowering them with the skills they need to succeed in life and career. Here are a few ideas on how you can promote 4-H during National 4-H Week:

Distribute bookmarks or other promotional information at public libraries, school libraries, or doctors’ offices.

Visit elementary school classrooms and talk with kids about what you do in 4-H.

Wear your 4-H apparel to school.

Ask a business if you can paint their windows with a 4-H theme.

If a business has a marquee, ask if they will use it to promote 4-H for a week.
