SD 4-H: iGrow Update
iGrow has undergone a facelift! The original iGrow.org website
served as a great tool for many years, but it was time for an up-
grade. You will find the updated website here (or just enter
igrow.org – it will redirect you to this website address):

(especially the search). You will find a lot of information from the
old website and they will continue to add more resources dai-
ly. Hundreds of users contributed feedback to help build this web-
site. Email SDSU Extension to tell them your favorite features, pro-
vide suggestions or ask a question.
4-H Leaders Meetings Sully County 4-H Council is scheduled for Monday, March 4th
beginning at 5:30 pm at The Goose.
Prairie Winds 4-H Council is scheduled for Monday, April 1st
beginning at 6:30 pm at the SDSU Pierre Regional Center.
The week of February 18th the 4-H Office will be
open February 20-22, 2019.

4-H Market Animal DNA Procedure
The State 4-H Office in working with AKSARBEN, the
DNA process has been altered for the 2018-2019 4-H
year. The newly implemented process will help simpli-
fy the process for counties and families.
DNA Procedure for Market Animals being exhibited in
the South Dakota State Fair 4-H Show: 1. DNA envelopes will only be distributed to 4-H fam-
ilies for SD State Fair.
2. Envelopes will need to be completed and payment
of $6/envelope must be returned to the 4-H Office.
3. If the animal is ONLY going to AKSARBEN, the
DNA envelope must be requested through
AKSARBEN directly.
4. All envelopes submitted for the SD State Fair will
be eligible for AKSARBEN Stock Show.
Remember, market animals being shown in the SD State
Fair 4-H Show, must still be accurately entered in
4HOnline by June 1st.
4-H Scholarships Applications Deadline
April 1
Youth who have at least five years of active member-
ship in South Dakota 4-H (current high school senior or
accepted to college, technical institute, etc.) are eligible
to apply for South Dakota 4-H Scholarships. Applica-
tions are accepted now through April 1 of this
year. You will all the scholarship application infor-
mation here:

Prairie Winds 4-H Scholarship The Prairie Winds 4-H Leader’s Council is pleased to
announce the Third Annual Prairie Winds 4-H Scholar-
ship. Through the generous contributions of 4-H sup-
porters a fund has been established with the South Da-
kota Community Foundation which will support this
scholarship into future. The scholarship is in the
amount of $500 and will be available each year to one
graduating senior.
Please contact your school counselor or the
4-H Office for application and eligibility
requirements. The application and supporting
documents need to be received in the Prairie Winds 4-H
Office no later than close of business May 17,
2019. No late applications will be accepted.
S.D. State 4-H Shoot The State 4-H Shoot will be held on
April 26-28, 2019 at multiple ranges in the
Pierre/Fort Pierre area, with the headquarters at the
EXPO Center in Fort Pierre, SD.
All Prairie Winds 4-H Clubs will be required to take
a work shift at the concession stand at the State
Shoot. Work shift slots will be available on a Sign-
Up Genius, be looking for an email from the 4-H
Office in the near future. This will be the same pro-
cess that was used last year.
All 4-H families, member at large, and rodeo members
are asked to donate 3-4 dozen cookies/bars. We are
asking that you package 3 cookies to a bag or one 3x3
bar to a bag. Please label any food item that contains
nuts or is made with peanut butter.
All proceeds for the baked good sales goes toward
Prairie Winds 4-H activities.
Rodeo Deadline
To be eligible to participate in any regional SD 4-H
Rodeo, you must complete these three steps by May 1,
2019:
1. Enroll as a SD 4-H member in 4HOnline (https://
sd.4honline.com)
2. Enroll in the Rodeo Project Area
3. Complete all required SD 4-H Rodeo paper forms
in the packet and submit on/before May 1, 2019.

B. 4-H Office receives:
Insurance Declaration Form 1 to
Participate in 2019 SD 4-H Rodeo
An entry that is postmarked prior to May 1, but received
after May 1, will be accepted. Entries postmarked prior
to the May 1 deadline requiring correction may be cor-
rected up to May 20 for a $5.00 reprocessing fee. These
corrections must be received by the secretary before
June 1st in order for the contestant to be eligible to ro-
deo.
Entries postmarked after May 1 thru June 1 will be as-
sessed a $150.00 late fee to be submitted with the late
entry. A family with more than one late entry will be
assessed $150 for the first entry and $50 for each addi-
tional entry. The contestant will not be eligible to rodeo
until the secretary has received the entry and required
fees. No entries will be accepted after June 1. Please
pay attention to deadline dates if you want to 4-H
rodeo this summer!

Soles4Souls Statewide Community Service Project SD 4-H urges you to support the South Dakota 4-H
Community Service Project. They have partnered with
Soles4Souls for this year’s project to collect 10,000 pairs
of shoes.
Soles4Souls takes gently used shoes and ships them to
countries in need. Shoes are an essential item for those
in developing countries. Soles4Souls mission is to create
sustainable jobs and provide relief through the distribu-
tion of shoes and clothing around the world. Go to

2019. Let’s make an impact!!
Sully County Fashion Revue Fashion Revue is a 4-H Youth-in-Action event that
promotes life skills such as clothing selection, fit, coor-
dination, and construction. Each 4-Her constructs and/
or selects his/her own garment in which to model in
front of a panel of judges. Through participation in this
event, 4-Hers have the opportunity to learn about
wardrobe selection, accessorizing, poise, presence, and
consumer purchasing/buying techniques. The Sully
County Fashion Revue Contest is scheduled for Tues-
day, April 9th beginning at 7 pm at the Methodist
Church. Fashion Revue forms will be up on the 4-H
website in March or by contacting the 4-H Office.
Completed forms are due to the 4-H Office no later
than Monday, April 1st.
4-H Insurance Due April 15, 2019 All 4-H members are required to have 4-H insur-
ance. American Income Life Insurance Company
(AIL) provides the following insurance policies for
South Dakota. Below is the cost:
If the 4-H member is in non-horse projects the cost
is $1.50.
Cloverbud insurance is $1.50.
If the 4-H member is in horse project the cost is
$2.50.
If the 4-Her is in rodeo, insurance cost is $40 un-
less the family has its own insurance to cover ro-
deo, then they must fill out the waiver and purchase
the $2.50 horse insurance.
Re-Enrollment in 4-H ~ Deadline is May
31st.
