Engine: 4 Cylinder Sequential Fire
Safety Instructions: (Please read and understand these safety instructions thoroughly prior to use) 1. This kit is designed to be installed on a sequential fire 4 cylinder engine. SPDi kits are available for other engine types.2. This kit should be installed by a knowledgeable, professional mechanic.3. Prior to beginning installation, ensure that your vehicle is situated in a safe manner: a) place vehicle on a flat level
surface; b) turn the engine off and allow it to cool; c) remove the ignition key; d) automatic transmissions should beplaced in park, e) manual transmissions should be placed in gear or in neutral with the emergency brake engaged
4. It is recommended, but not essential, that the negative battery cable is disconnected during installation. Please consultthe vehicle owner's manual to determine if there are any issues related to the alarm system or vehicle computer systemsprior to disconnecting the battery.
5. SPDi should only be installed on engines in good operating condition. Engine defects should be corrected (repaired) priorto SPDi installation. Check engine lights should be investigated and corrected.
6. Hazard: The SPDi module does not contain any user replaceable parts. Do not attempt to open, dismantle or modify theSPDi module for any reason. An electrical shock risk exists even when the unit is not powered.
Notes:
1. Spark Plugs: It is highly recommended that new Spark Plugs are installed with SPDi.2. Custom Tunes: Custom tuned engines will benefit from adjusting the air/fuel mixture and ignition timing to complement
SPDi technology.3. Defects: If any defects are discovered with the SPDi system, immediately discontinue use and contact your SPDi dealer.

Installation Procedure:1. Disconnect negative(-) battery terminal at thebeginning of the installation.
2. Disconnect and remove the stock ignition coils.
3.Remove the stock spark. We recommend a newset of plugs for your SPDi Installation. Gap thespark plugs to the following specificationsdepending on your application.
0.023" [0.6mm] for natural aspirated engines0.020" [0.5mm] for forced Induction engines
Then install the newly gaped sparkplugs and torqueto stock specifications.
4. Install the SPDi coils. Secure the coils withappropriate hardware and adapters.
SPDi has coil holders and adapters available for arange of applications, suited for different enginemakes and models. contact your dealer for moreinformation or see www.spdispark.com

5. Install the SPDi unit onto the generic mountingbracket with the 2 x 4mm bolts and nuts provided. Ifyour mounting position allows it, you may place the
relay on the bottom of the mounting bracket asillustrated.
6. Place the assembled unit in your desiredmounting location to check for fit. Avoid any hightemperature locations in the engine bay. Once thebracket location is determined, attach the providedpaper sticker with cross hairs, to mark the holes tobe drilled. Confirm this location with the SPDimounting bracket. Remove the mounting bracketand drill 17/64" [7mm] holes at the cross hairmarked locations.
7. Install the SPDi mounting bracket with theprovided 6mm bolts nuts and washers.
8. Place the ECU Interface Harness as needed with
wire available to connect to the stock ignitionharness. Do not connect the ECU Interface Harnessto the SPDi unit yet. Connect the relay plug to therelay under the SPDi mounting bracket. Route theharness away from any moving parts or hightemperature areas. Secure as needed with zip tiesor appropriate hardware. Route the power andground to the battery terminals. [Do not connect thebattery connections]
9 A. Connect the SPDi ECU Interface Harness to thestock ignition harness. [We recommend soldering theconnections for best performance and reliability] If
soldering is not possible, use the provided spliceconnectors. [see 10 B for quick splice instructions]
Coil ECU Harness SPDi Harness
1 Coil 1 Signal Blue
2 Coil 2 Signal Orange
3 Coil 3 Signal Purple
4 Coil 4 Signal Yellow
Any Coil Power (+12v) Green
Connect A Coil Power wire to the SPDi ECU InterfaceHarness Green Wire. This connection allows thestock ignition to control the SPDi power relay.
9 B. Quick Splice instructions (skip if soldering)a) Place the stock ignition wire into the quick
splice connector.b) Place the associated SPDi wire into the quick
splice connector.c) Using pliers compress the metal splice
connector to make the connection.d) Fold the protective cover until it clicks shut.
10. Place the Ignition Wire Harnesses next. Try tokeep the Ignition Wire Harness length short aspossible for optimal performance. Route the harnessaway from any moving parts or high temperatureareas. Secure as needed with zip ties or appropriatehardware. Connect the harness to the SPDi Unit.Connect to the coils plugs.
Notes:a) Do not install SPDi without the relayb) Do not install SPDi without the 10A inline fuse.c) Do not install a fuse larger than 10A.
Failure to install the relay or the 10A fuse couldresult in damage to the SPDi unit.

11. Install the positive and negative SPDi powercables to the battery terminals. At this pointreconnect the negative battery terminal if it was
removed.
12. Connect the SPDi ECU Interface Harness to theSPDi unit.
13. Installation is now complete. The SPDi systemis ready for use with the provided spark profile.
SPDi Spark is Programmable:The SPDi control unit is programmable. It is possibleto upgrade the firmware and modify the spark profiles.
Changes to SPDi programming can be made by yourSPDi dealer. You may also program SPDi yourselfwith the SPDi Programming Kit available atwww.spdispark.com. This kit includes a programmingcable and user interface software.
