Humble ISD’s

Fine Arts Fesval needs YOU!

Looking for volunteer hours? Look no further than the Fine Arts Festival (see flyer on the last page of this newsletter). We need volunteers on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th for a fun-filled day of creativity, art, and music. Thousands of people come to this event every year, and we can’t do it without volunteers! If you or anybody you know

(sixth grade or older) is able to help out, please email Lisa Jones at [email protected].

5th Grade Manners Banquet News

The Manners Banquet will be held on Friday, May 4 from 12:00-2:00

* Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the occasion. Girls are encour-aged to wear dresses. Dress slacks and a blouse will be fine also. Boys are encouraged to wear a dress shirt, tie and trousers. Suits and sports coats are also welcome. Dress shoes are strongly encouraged. * Please make sure that your child has $2.00 in his/her school lunch account to offset the cost of the meal. If your child is part of the free/reduced lunch program, the $2.00 is waived. * If your child has a food allergy, please contact your child’s teacher immediately so his/her dietary needs can be met.

* Please remember that due to limited space and the congestion associated with serving and clearing tables, there will be no room for spectators or visitors.

* We will begin taking pre-orders for copies of the Manners Banquet slide show this week. Watch your child’s folder for order forms and more information.

Thank you! If you have questions, please contact Amy Van Dyke at [email protected]

Library News…

The students loved author Willie Claflin’s visit and sense of humor. He signed books, told stories and introduced his friends to us: Gorf, Maynard and the Raccoon.

The whole school celebrated reading last week. All grade levels met in the caf-eteria to sing “I Want to Read”, and Mr. Whorton did a fantastic job of

directing the entire performance.

I would like to thank the Humble Education Foundation for providing our school with a grant that funded the AR web-based program, Renaissance Learning. The students who had AR assignments this year were able to choose almost any book in the library to read because through this program 90% of our books have quizzes. Students loved having that choice!

Thank you! Mrs. Smalley

News from 4th and 5th grade Student Council Eagle Springs Elementary Student Council will be participating in the Humble Relay for Life on April 27-April 28 from 6:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m. Our goal is to raise $1,000 for cancer research for the American

Cancer Society. There are three ways that you can help us meet our goal: donate any amount of money on our Team Fundraising web page (please see the link below), order a Relay for Life originally designed Team Eagles t-shirt (see the design and order form below) to support our team, and/or purchase a

luminaria, a lantern with a special note written "in honor of" or "in memory of" a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer (see our team fundraising web page on how to order luminarias). Also, please feel free to forward our team fundraising page out to your friends and family. We thank you in advance for your support in helping Team Eagles raise money for the American Cancer Society. Together, we are all "Soaring for a Cancer Cure". Please contact Cindy Whigham at 281-641-3143 or

[email protected] with any questions.

This year, over 1.4 million Americans will hear the words "You have cancer". We know too many people

who are touched by cancer, and that is why our Fourth and Fifth Grade Student Council at Eagle Springs

Elementary School has joined the American Cancer Society on a mission to save lives and create a world

with more birthdays by participating in the Relay For Life in my community.

At Relay For Life we celebrate loved ones who have won their battle against cancer, remember those who

are no longer with us, and fight back against this disease that touches so many. We are determined to make

a difference, and our hope is that you will join Team Eagle Springs Eagles. We will be walking on April

27-April 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. at Summer Creek High School.

Please, support us in our efforts by using the link below to visit Team Eagle Springs Eagles' web page and

make a donation. Every dollar raised brings us one dollar closer to a cure, and to a time when the number

of people who have to hear the words "you have cancer" is zero.

Thank you so much for your support. Together, we ARE saving lives and creating a world with more

birthdays!
