Gospel Acclamation
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit. A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
Glory to you, O Lord. The Gospel
When all the people asked John, ‘What must we do?’ he answered, ‘If anyone has two tunics he must share with the man who has none,
and the one with something to eat must do the same.’ There were tax collectors too who came for baptism, and these said to him,
‘Master, what must we do?’ He said to them, ‘Exact no more than your rate.’ Some soldiers asked him in their turn, ‘What about us? What
must we do?’ He said to them, ‘No intimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!’ A feeling of expectancy
had grown among the people, who were beginning to think that John might be the Christ, so John declared before
them all, ‘I baptise you with water, but someone is coming, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to undo the
strap of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing-fan is in his hand to clear his
threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that will never go out.’ As well as this,
there were many other things he said to exhort the people and to announce the Good News to them.

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. Bind us together, Lord, bind us together, Lord, bind us together in love.
There is only one God, there is only one King. There is only one Body, that is why we sing:

Made for the glory of God, purchased by his precious Blood, born with the right to be free: Jesus the victory has won

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF
MERCY
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like
the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you
sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from
being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and
assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that
you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift
of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power
above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord
risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in
weakness in order that they may feel compassion for
those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved,
and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us
with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a
year of grace from the Lord, and your Church,
with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the
poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and
reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.
We implore your mercy, Lord, that this divine sustenance may cleanse us of our faults and prepare us for the coming feasts. Through Christ our Lord. All: Amen
Prayer after communion
The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Final Blessing
May almighty God bless you,the Father, and the Son,and the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.Final Blessing
The mass is ended, go in peace and proclaim the Gospel of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.Dismissal
Colours of day dawn into the mind, the sun has come up, the night is behind. Go down in the city, into the street, and let’s give the message to the people we meet.
So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the
people of Jesus, let his love show.
Go through the park, on into the town; the sun still shines on, it never goes down. The light of the world is risen again; the people of darkness are needing our friend.
So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the
people of Jesus, let his love show.
Open your eyes, look into the sky, the darkness has come, the sun came to die. The evening draws on, the sun disappears, but Jesus is living, and his Spirit is near.
So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the
people of Jesus, let his love show.
EUCHARISTIC
ADORATION
Pope Francis desires that the year ‘will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing
the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach
everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of
God is already present in our midst!’
Extracts from the Bull: Misericordiae Vultus
‘Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith. Mercy
has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in
him.’ (1)
Extracts from the Bull: Misericordiae Vultus
‘I will open the Holy Door on the fiftieth anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Ecumenical
Council. The Church feels a great need to keep this event alive. With the Council, the Church entered a new phase of her history. The Council Fathers strongly perceived,
as a true breath of the Holy Spirit, a need to talk about God to men and women of their time in a more accessible
way.’ (4)
Extracts from the Bull: Misericordiae Vultus‘…the mercy of God is not an abstract idea, but a concrete reality with which he reveals his love as of that of a father or a mother, moved to the very depths out of love for their child. It is hardly an exaggeration to say that this is a “visceral” love. It gushes forth from the depths naturally, full of tenderness and compassion, indulgence and mercy.’ (6)
Extracts from the Bull: Misericordiae Vultus
‘In the parables devoted to mercy, Jesus reveals the nature of God as that of a
Father who never gives up until he has forgiven the wrong and overcome
rejection with compassion and mercy.’ (9)
