This month our parish focuses on 5th Spiritual Work of Mercy: Forgiving Injuries. How do we do this; offer-ing forgiveness, not holding grudges, seeking forgiveness, letting go of anger…and the list could be end-less.
In “forgiving injuries” we always recognize that injuries do occur. Sin injures all people and the healing of forgiveness begins to allow the relationships of love to be repaired and made new. “Forgiving Injuries” does not mean that we forget but rather we let go and allow our lives to be freed from the chains of un-forgiveness and anger that holds us bound to the sin.
This is where the reality of God’s generosity and our life of generosity and gratitude come to a practical and practiced purpose. The practice of forgiveness is an act of generosity because we choose to allow the hurt to be given away. We place into the world the generous part of our self that, with the grace of God, becomes ever greater as we let go of the tight fist of un-forgiveness and extend the open palm of mercy. It is a generosity we recognize when we love and when we practice the stewardships of God’s gifts of time, talent and treasure. We, in generosity, recognize the abundance of God’s mercy as St. Paul reminds us, “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy…made us alive in Christ” (Eph 2:4-5)
Forgiveness in generosity becomes a habit of the heart where we are freed from the closed heart of hate and allow the abundant love of God to reign. God Bless, Fr. Mark

Tips of the Month - How to Spend More Time With God: Living a merciful life. Dear brothers and sisters, We are in the Year of Mercy which Pope Francis has encouraged us all to live our lives according to the 14 Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. "The Living Tree" (along with the red and blue cards - given to us at Masses) created by St. Lucy Liturgical Planning is a way to remind us of that. To expand that idea further, we would like to offer you a few practical tips on how to live the first two Corporal Works of Mercy: Feed the hungry and give drinks to the thirsty.
1. Make a habit of having food in you cars to give to a hungry/homeless person. - When making yourself a sandwich, make an extra and take with you to give away - Buy and keep a few $5 fast food gift cards in your glove compartment. - Have a few energy bars in your car. - Have extra bottles of water with you.
2. Remember St Vincent de Paul. - If you have fruit trees or a vegetable garden, please give the extra fruits & vegetables to St Vincent de Paul. - Once a month or when you can, set aside $5-$10 to buy some non-perishable grocery items to give to St Vincent de Paul.
"You did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40 Christ is risen, Hallelujah! Worship Commission
St. Lucy’s YLI is sponsoring a Fashion Show & Luncheon on Sat., April 23 at 12:30pm in the PAC. Tickets are $23. Reservations with Rosemary at 408-378-0325. Proceeds benefit many charities.
