    The process for encoding data onto the signalbeam is accomplished by a device called a

    spatial light modulator (SLM).

    The SLM translate the electronics data of 0sand 1s into an optical checkerboard pattern of

    light and dark pixels.

    Light from a single laser beam is split into two

    beams, the signal which carries the data and thereference beam.

    At the point of intersection of the reference

    beam and the data carrying signal beam, the

    hologram is recorded in the storage medium.

    A chemical reaction occur in the medium on

    intersection of both beam cause hologramstored.

    By varying the reference beam angle,

    wavelength, or media position many different

    holograms can be recorded in the same

    volume of material.

    HOWITWORKS?

    First there is an urgent need of translating

    electronic code of 0s and 1s to light beam

    of light and dark pixel pattern.

    So the above work is done through SLM

    and storage medium.

    Here the intersection of both light beam

    from SLM on crystal cause to form

    holograms into the bulk of the crystal.

    Storing of information within the volume of

    storage material is done through multi-layer

    storage technique.

    In this technique the data are stored into the

    bulk of the material in hologram using only one

    read/write head in SLM.

    Here the information is arranged in array ofholograms.

    To read or write any data here only one

    head is enough.

    The head here is nothing but the two beam

    of SLM that does the whole work.

    We write into the bulk of material in multi-

    layer by changing the angle ,wavelength

    position of the beam.

    While reading we use only one beam which

    incident on required hologram projected onto

    a detector that reads the data in parallel.

    Performance and AdvantagesMaximum data storage limits we have reached today

    15.9G.B on a double-layer, doubled sided DVD.180 GB onhard disk.

    Whereas this system that can store about a terabyte ofinformation (thats over 15,000 CDs!) on the crystal the size

    of a sugar cube!

    The multi-layer system is optically transparent andhomogeneous .

    Unlike other technologies that record one databit at

    a time, holography allows a million bits data to be

    written and read in parallel with single flash of light.

    It allows 1 million bits of data to be written or read in

    a single flash of light through SLM.

    This enables transfer rate significantly higher than

    current optical storage devices.

    This will offer symmetrical infinite double sided disc toread and writes for the retention of data storage for ten-

    years or more with drive densities of

    200terabits/sq.in.and up.

    This will allow the holographic optical nanotechnologydrive to hold more data than any type of drive and

    delivered data much faster.The patents on a semiconductor read/write head for

    device raise data storage densities by a factor of 100 or

    more and will add at least 1000 times the data storage

    capacity per peripheral storage footprint and data

    transfer rates over 100 G bits/sec.
