Improving AccessibilityHennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are collaborating to improve access to all modes of transportation in a 15-block area adjacent to Interstate 35W in south Minneapolis between the I-94/I-35W commons area and 32nd Street.
Increasing ConnectivityThe proposed project involves a new transit station and variety of improvements to the transit facilities; I-35W ramps and bridges; local street improvements and operational changes; landscaping and design treatments. Together, accessibility improvements will increase transit use along Interstate I-35W and improve conditions along the local street network.
Enhancing Community Access and SafetyThe project is designed to achieve the following objectives:
• Improve access to the Bus Rapid Transit system on Interstate 35-W and accommodate transit patron transfers for the current CSAH 3 (Lake Street) system via a new transit station.
• Improve accessibility and provide greater connectivity between the local, regional and interstate transportation systems.
• Provide for the safe movement of vehicles and improved safety for pedestrians, bicycles and transit users.
• Improve livability by enhancing the sense of community through supporting revitalization and economic vitality.
• Enhance the environmental quality of this urban landscape and minimize current negative impacts.
Funding needs remainThe improvements to accessibility will not take place without state funding. Support the county’s $6.75 million bonding request.
