This firmware up gradation procedure is from 327R to 423A

1. Before starting the firmware up gradation please collect the extractor output for future reference.

# CD /opt/SUNwsscs/

. /se3kextr

2. FTP the output from server to local desktop3. Un mount all the mount points from server

# Unmountall4. Copy the firmware patch in server any local directory and unzip the zip file

# unzip 113723-15.zip5. Verify the current firmware version of the controller from present direct directory type below commands

# sccliSccli> version

6. Verify the product and revision of the array. Type the following command, please confirm your firmware is 327R before proceeding the below firmware up gradation.# Sccli> show inquiry

7. Verify the single or dual controller. Type the following command# Sccli> show redundancy

8. Collect the configuration information in .txt file# Sccli> show configuration <filename.txt>

9. Please remove the old SUNWsscs package and install latest package in the storage connected server10. Stop the ssagent in the storage connected server

# /etc/ini.td/ssagent stop11. Confirm your working present directory is having the .bin file 12. Perform the firmware upgrade by typing the following command at SCCLI prompt

#Sccli > download controller-firmware --reset-nvram -r SUN415F-3510.bin

13. The sccli command will show following messages and wait until sccli prompt appears it may take 10 -20 min

This procedure is for minor up gradation for like 4.xx to 4.xx

14. Before starting the firmware up gradation please collect the extractor output for future reference.

# CD /opt/SUNwsscs/

. /se3kextr

15. FTP the output from server to local desktop16. Un mount all the mount points from server

# Unmountall17. Copy the firmware patch in server any local directory and unzip the zip file

# unzip 113723-21.zip18. Collect the configuration in .txt file

# Sccli> show configuration <filename.txt>19. Verify the current version of the Sccli pkg

# Sccli>version

Sccli version 2.3.0

20. Verify the product and revision of the array. Type the following command# Sccli> show inquiry

Vendor: SUN Product: StorEdge 3510 Revision: 413C Peripheral Device Type: 0x0 NVRAM Defaults: 413C 3510 S442F Boot record version: 1.31H Serial Number: 07E779

21. Verify the single or dual controller. Type the following command# Sccli> show redundancy

Primary controller serial number: 8014673 Primary controller location: Upper Redundancy mode: Active-Active Redundancy status: Enabled Secondary controller serial number: 8014252

22. Remove the old sccli package and install the latest package for supporting latest firmware to support# Pkgrm SUNWsscs

23. Copy the new downloaded package in to server and install the pkg follow the instruction showing on the screen.# Pkgadd SUNWsscs

24. Stop the ssagent in the storage connected server # /etc/ini.td/ssagent stop

25. Confirm your working present directory is having the .bin file 26. Perform the firmware upgrade by typing the following command

# Sccli> download controller-firmware SUN423A-3510.bin27. The sccli command will show following messages and wait until sccli prompt appears it may take 10 -20 min

Sccli: Downloading controller firmware ….. Programming flash memory …..DoneSccli: Engaging firmware …….doneSccli>

28. If you see any errors like "Please repeat download command" or "controller firmware download ok, But engage operation is not allowed," the controller was unable to perform the firmware upgrade.

Page 3: 3510 Firware Upgarde Form 327R to 423A

29. Repeat download as follows Stop all I/O activity and unmount any file systems or volumes mounted by a volume manager from the array. Then, type the following command at# Sccli> download controller-firmware -r SUN423A-3510.bin

30. Verify that the firmware upgrade succeeded by examining the firmware revision again. Type the following command at sccli and verify that the firmware revision is now reported as 423A# Sccli> show inquiry

If your storage is having 3510 controller with expansion trays then you need to upgrade the SES and PLD firmware

1. Verify the SES firmware version. Type the following command at the# Sccli > show ses-devices

2. If you find the Rev column revision code is 1106 then no need to do the ses firmware up gradation or follow the below steps to upgrade.

3. The SSCS agent may interfere with the download of SES code , it is necessary to stop SSCS agent running on a host connected to the array controller # /etc/init.d/ssagent stop

4. Perform the SES firmware up gradation # Sccli> download ses-firmware sesfw_3510_1106.s3r

5. It is not necessary to reset the RAID controller afterwards; however, until the next controller reset, the firmware's menu interface may continue to display the old SES firmware revision

6. Verify that all SES devices have been upgraded. Type the following command at the sccli# Sccli > show ses-devices

PLD firmware upgrades procedure1.

1. Performing this PLD firmware upgrade incorrectly, by using a version of sccli prior to version 2.4 or power-cycling the array at the wrong time, can result in the array enclosure being rendered unusable.

2. The PLD firmware upgrade cannot be completed without power-cycling the array at the end of the procedure. Do not proceed if it is not possible to power cycle the array at this time.

3. If you upgrade the PLD firmware in band, make sure the host's Fiber Channel HBA connections are restored after the PLD firmware download.

4. Verify the PLD firmware version. Type the following command at the sccli# Sccli > show ses-devices

5. PLD firmware revision codes displayed in the PLD column if all the lines contain a revision code of 1000 in the PLD field then no need to do the PLD firmware up gradation

6. Make sure that all host I/O activity has been stopped. The array will be unable to process host I/O activity for up to 10 to 15 min. type the following command at sccli # Sccli > download pld-firmware pld1r10.s3r

7. Sccli will indicate that it is shutting down the controller, sending the PLD firmware data, and programming the flash memory. All the LEDs on the array will illuminate while the flash programming is under way, and sccli will pause for 3 to 5 minutes. DO NOT POWER CYCLE THE ARRAY YET.

Page 4: 3510 Firware Upgarde Form 327R to 423A

8. Note the time and wait at least 5 minutes for the PLD flash programming operation to complete.9. Wait at least 5 minutes after seeing the message "Power cycle the array, including expansion units” Then

turn off power to BOTH power supplies on the array, wait 10 seconds, and then turn power back on.

10. Removing power from one power supply does not cause the array to lose power. Allow up to 3 minutes for the controller to restart fully.

11. Verify that all PLD devices have been upgraded. Type the following command at sccli# Sccli > show ses-devices

12. After upgardation complete if SSCS agent was stopped restart it with following command

# /etc/init.d/ssagent start
