Youth Active and Media Savvy (YAMS) Two week, 5 day program for 8-14 year old, African American youth
Camp dates: June 3 – 14; June 17 – 28; & July 15 – 26
YAMS is a research-based summer camp program designed for African American
youth. This interactive summer program promotes self-confidence and healthy
living, as participating youth learn and engage in activities that explore media
influence on dietary behaviors and sedentary lifestyles, as well as nutrition,
physical activity/exercise, and weight maintenance. Emphasis is placed on
providing nutrition lessons and physical activities to promote healthy weight
management. Participants must identify as African-American, age 8-14, reside in
Davidson County, and be willing to complete surveys. The cost of the camp is
FREE, and all meals are provided. Campers can only attend one (1) 2-week
session.

Upward Bound A Six-Week Residential Program for High School Students
Grades 9 - 12 ~~~~ June 2 – July 12, 2013
Students receive instruction in core curriculum courses and are exposed to experi-
ences that broaden their understanding of and appreciation for the fine arts.
Through the course of the program, students are in an environment that promotes
the development of values and attitudes conducive to productive citizenship and

TSU Lil’ Tiger Camp A Four Day Commuter Summer Football
Program for ages 6 - 14 —- June 3 - 6, 2013
The Tennessee State University Lil’ Tiger Camp is designed to provide partici-pants ages 6 - 14 with opportunities to develop and improve their football skills in a fun, safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Tennessee State University Head Coach, Rod Reed, along with his staff will be on hand to instruct campers in the funda-mentals of the sport in order to help improve their football skills. TSU Lil’ Tiger Camp will encourage each camper to develop new skills and achieve a new level of play and self-confidence. The cost is $135.

Safari Arts Day Camp Two week, Commuter Program for ages 4-17
June 3rd - June 14th, 2013
This is a program focused on African Arts Heritage through music, dance, drama,
visual and literary arts. Students will move from one class to the next in age
appropriate smaller sessions with breaks for lunch, snacks, games and play.
Classes include African Rhythm and Dance, Orff Activities, Children's Choir, Arts
and Crafts, African Stories and Authors, Creative Writing and Improvisational
Acting. The classes meet daily from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. with a Friday, June 14
performance at 5:30 p.m. The cost of $150/week ($300 total) includes lunch and
snacks. Offered through the CAMA program by the TSU Department of Music.

Summer Apprenticeship Program A Four-Week Residential Program for High School Rising Seniors and High
School Graduates June 3 –29, 2013
High school graduates who have applied to Tennessee State University or high
school students going into their senior year are candidates for this program. Each
student is assigned to a faculty- mentor from the College of Agriculture. Students
are exposed to the research work of their faculty-mentor. The students are required
to complete a mini-research project and present the findings at the end of the pro-
gram. Group activities including lectures, demonstrations, and field trips are
planned for each Friday. There is no cost.

Youth Empowerment Program A Four Week Commuter Program for High School Students
June 3 – June 28, 2013
The Triple Impact Youth Empowerment Program focuses on enhancing aca-demic
achievement, increasing self-esteem, and helping youth make healthy decisions.
Mentoring is a key component of this program. It is geared toward rising seniors
who participate in the program at the Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Academy. This
summer’s program will focus on Workforce Development and Employability
skills. There is no cost.

RealSports Leadership Academy A Four-Week Commuter Program for High School Students
June 5 - 28, 2013
The RealSports program is designed to give high school student athletes a head start in preparation for college by providing a clear vision of the expectations, knowledge and skills necessary for suc-cess. It is a four week pre-college program that provides a strong curriculum and faculty for enhancement in the basic aca-demic sub-jects of English, Math, Science and Computer Science. The summer program emphasizes essential learning strategies goal setting, time and task man-agement, critical thinking, decision making, study skills and test-taking skills in-cluding ACT preparation. Mentoring workshops presenting successful professional athletic role models, athletic administrators and coaches are significant parts of this program. RealSports promotes the personal, cultural, social and leadership development of student athletes by providing activities in the college environment that will contribute to their success. TSU Repair Fest Two day in-service commuter workshop
for middle and high school band directors
June 4th - June 5th, 2013
The workshop is an intensive, hands-on experience in band instrument repair with
special emphasis upon emergency repairs to keep instruments playing when they
break just before a performance. Also included is instruction in cork, pad, and
solder work. Space is limited.

HBCU-UP / STEM Summer Institute (four-week residential program)
High School Graduate accepted to attend TSU in the Fall 2013 and plans to
pursue a STEM Major—June 9 – July 6, 2013
Students will have a four-week residential program of study in chemistry, English,
mathematics and physics to prepare for their freshman academic year at TSU as a
prospective STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) major. All
participants are required to complete a Summer Project. Academic awards are
available to the top HBCU-UP/STEM students. Cost: None

Engineering Concepts Institute – E.C.I. A Four-Week Residential Summer Program
June 9 -July 6, 2013
High school graduate accepted and enrolled in the TSU College of Engineering for
the Fall 2013 Semester. Students will have a four-week residential program of
study in basic scientific and engineering principles through projects, industry tours,
coursework, and other experiential learning activities to increase their familiarity
with engineering and the collegiate environment at Tennessee State University. All
participants are required to complete a Summer Project. Academic scholarships
are available to the top E.C.I. students. Cost: $100.00

National Summer Transportation Institute – N.S.T.I. A Four-Week Residential Program
Grades: 10-12 and completion of Algebra I - June 9 – July 6, 2013
Students will have a four-week residential program to introduce them to the trans-
portation industry. Students will participate in enrichment and preparatory course-
work cmputing, mathematics and physics to introduce them to the discipline of
engineering. Each week will cover topics in a different aspect of transportation
(AIR, LAND AND SEA). Activities for Summer 2012 will include field trips,
industry tours, and seminars from the Tennessee Department of Transportation
(TDOT) [administrator of the program], U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA), Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority
(MNAA), NISSAN and NASA, etc.

Reading, Romping, Racing through Literature Camp One week, 5 day Commuter program for 3rd and 4th graders
June 17- 21, 2013
This summer camp experience will take your child on a fun-filled week of reading,
romping, running, and racing through literature. Kids will read award-winning
books by some of the world’s best children authors. Reading will be enhanced by
dramatic skits, costume-making, puppet shows, arts and crafts, and lots of fun!

p.m. The fee of $150 for the week includes lunch and snacks. Some full and
partial scholarships are available. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Offered

Travis Williams 2013 Summer Basketball Camp ages 6-15
June 18—June 21, 2013
This camp will be conducted by the Tennessee State Men’s Basketball Staff along
with players on the team. The camp will focus on the fundamentals of basketball
from an individual stand point along with how to play the game as a team. This
camp will give young men the chance to get coaching from a Division I Basketball
Program. Camp is open to boys ages 6-15. The cost for the camp is $100.
All Camps will be housed in the Gentry Center Complex.

MET Singers Summer C.A.M.P.
Two week, Commuter program for 2nd to 12th graders
July 1st - July 12th, 2013
MET Singers Summer C.A.M.P. is a program of Choral Arts Link, Inc. and
C.A.M.P. stands for Choral Arts Music Performers. Summer Sing-ing Explosion
workshops are based on performance decorum using four choral settings and
sharpens singers’ skills through daily critical thinking classes and performances on
stage. Funda-mentals of these workshops serve to enhance vocal performance.
Singers return to school/community choirs with an explosion of new skills and
confidence. Classes meet daily from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., concluding with a final
performance. The total two-week cost of $250 includes lunch and snacks. Offered
through CAMA by TSU's Department of Music in cooperation with Choral Arts
Link – a performing arts and youth development program.

Edward L. Graves High School Summer Band Camp June 23rd - June 29th, 2013
Tennessee State University's Aristocrat of Bands presents a week-long resident
summer band camp for high school students. The camp focuses upon
showmanship, musicianship and leadership, preparing campers to be more
impactful, contributing members of their school band programs. Cost is $375 for
residential campers, $275 for non-residential.

CSI/ Mock Trial Camp
One week, 5 day program for 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th graders
June 24th - June 28th, 2013
This camp will allow junior and high school students to explore the criminal
justice process, the definition of crime, the mechanics of crime scene investigation
and evidence collection, and the resulting procedures for arrest, prosecution, and
the court process. Learning opportunities include a mock trial competition and the
camp concludes with an analysis of forms of punishment. Ideal for students
interested in Criminal Justice or Law. Classes meet daily M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. The cost of $150 for the week includes lunch and snacks.

Pre-Engineering Program to Stimulate Interest in
Engineering (P.E.P.S.I.E.)
July 15—19, 2013
Students may select Session I or II for an introduction to the disciplines of engi-
neering. The program will focus on hands-on-projects including project design,
manufacturing, robotics and aeronautics. All students will participate in refresher
activities to enhance and promote learning skills and knowledge in mathematics
and physics and conclude with a final project. Cost: $50.00

Summer Math Academy
A Two-Week Residential Pre-College Program
for Rising High School Sophomores and Juniors Enrolled in the
Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools - July 7 - 20, 2013
The goal of the TSU Regents Summer Math Academy is to encourage high
school student participants to envision themselves as college students and to
provide them with the opportunity to explore careers in mathematics, science
and related science and technology fields. The math curriculum is designed to
demystify algebra and advanced mathematics, enhance attitudes toward mathe-
matical science, and strengthen mathematical reasoning skills necessary to per-
form well on college entrance examinations and in college level mathematics.
This is a resident program and students are required to live on campus for the
entire 2-week program period. Eligible students must be rising 10th and 11th
graders for the 2013-2014 academic year. This is a free program and students
from underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.

CAMA: Musical Theater Day Camp
Two-week, 10 day Commuter program for children ages 4-17 to experience
both on-stage / behind the scenes workings of the musical theater
July 15th - July 27th, 2013
These children will experience both on-stage and behind the scenes workings of
the musical theater. Students will be grouped in age appropriate smaller sessions
with breaks for lunch, snacks, games and play. Classes include rhythm and dance,
theatrical activities, stage craft, stories, creative writing and improvisational acting.
The classes meet daily from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with a theatrical performance on
Saturday, July 27th at 3:00 p.m. The total two-week cost of $300 includes lunch
and snacks. Offered through CAMA by TSU's Department of Music and the
Theater Area of the Department of Communications.

OL/DL CAMP

Your lineman will have the opportunity to compete with other linemen in numer-
ous competitions to see who is Music City’s Big Man. The day consists of instruc-
tions and drills from the Tennessee State University Coaching Staff along with
other highly respected coaches. The end of the day will consist of different
strength and agility drills along with 1-1 competition to see who is Music City’s
Big Man. Each Camper is required to fill out a registration form and pay $15.

Music City Showdown 7on7 Tournament
July 20, 2013
Each team will play in a minimum of four (4) games. After the initial round, a
single elimination tournament will begin. The tournament will conclude with
crowning the 2011 Music City Showdown Champs. Each team should consist of
at least seven (7) players; it is recommended that each team consist of 10-20 play-
ers. All teams are required to pay $120 admission fee per team. Please send all of
the players’ registration forms along with one check per team. Each Camper is
required to fill out a registration form.

High School Media Camp Two week, Commuter Program for 10

th graders
May 28th - June 7th, 2013
Students with a strong interest in the media field will enjoy this program that
includes two weeks of media experience writing stories for print and on-line and
producing radio and TV programs in state-of-the-art facilities. Grades 10-12 along
with recent high school graduates are encouraged to apply. A minimum grade
point average of 3.0 and a two page, double-spaced narrative addressing your
interest in the workshop are required. Application deadline is May 17, 2013 at 5
p.m. Registration fee of $200 covers the cost of lunch and project materials for the
two-week period. The camp will run from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day. Offered

TSU Summer Success Institute A Five-Week Program for High School Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and
Freshmen Admitted to Tennessee State University
May 28—June 28, 2013
The Summer Success Institute is a TSU community outreach program designed to
enhance students’ skills in English, math, reading, test taking, and study skills. The
program provides the ACT Prep Class for high school sophomores and juniors.
Students are equipped with the necessary tools required to improve their ACT/SAT
scores or to successfully complete their initial test-taking attempt. For graduating
seniors who are being considered for admission to TSU and who have an ACT
subscore of 12 or less in at least two areas, the ACT Prep provides them with the
tools needed to improve their scores as a condition of their admission to the Uni-
versity. For graduating high school seniors who have been admitted to TSU with
subscores of 17-13 in English, 18-13 in math, and/or 18-13 in reading, the Summer
Success Institute offers the College Prep, which provides the tools needed to en-
hance the students’ skills and improve their placement upon entry into TSU. The
cost is $100.00.

Academic Boot Camp and Excel-O-rate Programs June 1 - June 28, 2013
The TSU Academic Boot Camp and Excel-O-rate Programs are rigorous four-week residential programs allowing incoming freshmen, already admitted to TSU, to earn academic credit. Students receive quality instruction, individualized tutoring, and computer technology training. Upon completion of the program, students will have completed three (3) credit hours to apply toward their major field of study upon enrolling at TSU in the Fall.
