Athletes Unlimited Kevin Clancy
Basketball Tournament
presented by
Edward & Allyson DeNoble
Welcome to the 33rd Kevin Clancy Basketball Tournament! As we play and cheer today, we celebrate the life of Kevin Clancy, a former Newton Celtic basketball player, who would be thrilled that thirty teams have come together to play the game he loved. You honor Kevin with your teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendship.
It is a joy to all of us at Athletes Unlimited that participation in this tournament continues to grow. Today and every day we support our athletes and our community, and we cele-brate the growth of inclusive activities. A special thank you to the tournament committee, coaches, referees and volunteers who donate their time and talents to make this event possible. This year we especially honor Janet Goldberg, who has coached the Newton Pointsetters for 29 years and Marty Taubman who has also been a long-time coach of the Newton Celtics. Please join me in thanking our sponsors: O’Hara’s Restaurant, HP Hood, Starbucks and Wegmans.
Athletes Unlimited and Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture have worked hard to build community for our participants by making athletics and other activities more accessible and more inclusive. For over three decades, the Kevin Clancy Basketball Tournament has been a reflection of that effort and extends our community to hundreds of athletes from cities and towns across Eastern Massachusetts. This year, as always, we are honored to host such a wonderful group of athletes. Have fun, play hard, and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Betsy Lynch DiSciulloPresident, Athletes Unlimited

Janet has been the Head Coach and cornerstone of the Newton Pointsetters since 1991. In the early years, the Pointsetters was an all-women’s team consisting of around 10 athletes with disabilities. The team attended Special Olympic tournaments throughout the region. Over the years, the Pointsetters has become co-ed and expanded to over 20 athletes.
Janet has made her coaching commitment a family affair. Son and daughter Evan and Molly have each volunteered many seasons with the Pointsetters and Evan even worked at the summer camp run through Newton Athletes Unlimited.
For nearly three decades, Janet has been a huge supporter of the Newton Athletes Unlimited program and she has been a true advocate for individuals with disabilities. She brings joy to every practice and game and is beloved by her players.
We are delighted to honor her for her exceptional dedication and service to our athletes, volunteers and families. Please join us as we salute Coach Janet Goldberg.
Newton Athletes Unlimited is delighted to honor Coach Marty Taubman for his commitment to the Newton Celtics. He has been a central figure in the lives of Newton Celtics players for decades. Marty is kind, thoughtful and patient and he is loved and respected by the athletes. He understands the needs of the athletes and each week, takes time to check in with every player to make them feel welcome and important.
Marty will often notice things that others overlook. Each week you can find Marty calling a player over to the side, advising him on a better way to dribble the ball, shoot, or rebound – and then they do it! He is a skilled teacher and expert communicator who can make what seems complex, very clear.
Marty has been a wonderful and trusted coach for many years. He gives his time and energy without reservation and makes all our lives better. Today we hope we have returned the favor. Please join us as we salute Coach Marty Taubman.
