From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “And Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made you well.’ And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.” (Mark 10:52). Faith is believing in something even though you may not be able to see it. Many people think that miracles don’t happen anymore. But, if you focus on the positive, not the negative, focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common.

Jeremiah 31:7-9: Jeremiah envisions a triumphant procession of God ’s chosen people, returning from bitter exile and reentering the fertile and peaceful land that was their birthright. The immense throng includes more than the strong and hearty. That honor is reserved for the blind and the lame, mothers and pregnant women. A God of compassion leads them, a God who is partial to the weak and so provides them with a level road.

Hebrews 5:1-6: The most compelling aspect of Jesus is his total identity with the people for whom he functioned as priest. He shared their weakness; the ultimate offering of his body on the cross was a sin offering for himself as well as for the people. Now enthroned at God ’s right hand, the priest is patient in dealing with others in their sins, for he knows full well the struggles they face.

Mark 10:46-52: Faith is a lifelong healing process, a lifetime of becoming ready to follow Jesus on the way. From timidity, backwardness, and namelessness, we move gradually and inexorably toward the boldness of Bartimaeus—”Master, I want to see. And I think I’m more prepared to accept what seeing with the eyes of faith will mean for me.”

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week. CELL PHONES: Out of respect for the liturgy, please silence all cell phones. Many thanks!

Open My Eyes (by Jesse Manibusan)

Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see Your face.

Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see.

Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear Your voice.

Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear

And the first shall be last, and our eyes are opened, And we’ll hear like never before.

And we’ll speak in new ways, And we’ll see God’s face in places we’ve never known.

Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love like You.

Open my heart, Lord Help me to love.

I live within you. Deep in your heart, O Love.

I live within you. Rest now in me.

QAC ANNUAL ‘CAKE AUCTION’: This has always been a fun event for QACers to show off their skills in baking ‘Premium Blue Ribbon’ cakes that go up for auction to raise money for our youth activities. So, get your aprons cleaned and pressed for the QAC culinary event of the year. We need your exceptional recipes, baking talents/expertise, and your willingness to show them off. The auction date is Sunday, Nov 22nd. Signups begin today in the vestibule after Mass. Cake boxes and cake rounds will be supplied by Amie Herbert. The baker of the cake that raises the most money will be awarded a $25.00 gift card to a local eatery (donated by a QACer).

MANY THANKS, QAC!: Our QAC coordinators for the ’Bread for the World’ event Wednesday evening (Marti Quakenbush, Chris Sitko and Nimfa Simpson) wish to pass on their thanks to all our volunteers for their hard work in making this event a success, as well as the many dozens of cookies..

1) Dear Friends - on behalf of all of us at Catholic Social Services, please accept our most sincere appreciation for your hospitality and your support of the 2015 Distinguished Speaker event. It was a joy to have had the opportunity to work with the staff and volunteers of the Queen of Apostles Community. It is certainly evident that your community has a special commitment to our gospel call to serve. Thank you for your leadership, support and hard work to make the ‘Food for All’ speaker presentation by Rev. David Beckmann on Wednesday, Oct 21st, a great success. Warm Regards, Regina A. Estep, CSSMV Director.

2) Thank you so much for all of your hard work and attention to details for the Distinguished Speaker event. You set a high bar for the parishes that follow, because you made accommodations for a food journey and for a regular meal; an outside entertainment group and a parish guitarist. I hope we were able to keep traffic flowing with two entrances and three golf carts. It almost sounds like a loaves and fishes story, doncha think? Everything flowed together so well and your facilities turned out to be just the right size for the dining and attending crowd. Again thank you for all your hard work and camaraderie. You do it all! Pam Long, Regional Director, Catholic Social Action Office.

ST. VINCENT DONATIONS: Bring any useable clothing to the chapel vestibule any Sunday or drop off in marked cabinets in the hallway near the Teen Room. October request: canned vegetables & fruit (packed in juice - no heavy syrup, please!). Contact Margie/Tom Hudnell, [email protected], or 429-0320.

EVENING OF CONTEMPLATION (BERGAMO CENTER: You and your friends are cordially invited to participate in an evening of contemplation focusing on the interconnection between the approaching Holy Year Jubilee of Mercy and reading Dante's Divine Comedy...at Bergamo Center for Lifelong Learning, Monday, Nov 2nd, 7:00-9:00 PM. Pope Francis has spoken of Dante Alighieri as "a prophet of hope, herald of the possibility of redemption, liberation and the profound transformation of every man and woman, of all humanity." Because Dante's trilogy is deeply imbued by a world-shattering vision of God's mercy in action, Bergamo is responding to the Holy Father's invitation to prayerfully explore this magnum opus of world literature throughout the Jubilee of Mercy with a series of contemplative retreats for which November 2 is a "primer."

“The beating heart of the Gospel.” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). Parishioners are invited to prepare for the Year of Mercy by attending a special presentation of A Justice That Heals, a story of murder, faith, and forgiveness. This 60 minute film focuses on two families. The frightening part is that each family could be our own – parents or siblings of the perpetrator as well as the victim. Fortunately, in this case neither family had to suffer their burdens alone. The film skillfully plays out the role of the faith community in providing support to both families as well as to the murderer. Mary Hallinan, an advocate for Restorative Justice and a Queen of Apostles parishioner, will facilitate a discussion of the film afterwards. Appropriate for high school ages and above. THE ELEPHANT AND THE TURTLE An elephant was drinking out of a river one day, when he spotted a turtle asleep on a log. So, he ambled on over and kicked it clear across the river.

"What did you do that for?" Asked a passing giraffe.

"Because I recognized it as the same turtle that took a nip out of my trunk 53 years ago."

"Wow, what a memory" commented the giraffe.

"Yes," said the elephant, "turtle recall".

AN INSCRIPTION PROBLEM According to the Knight-Ridder News Service, the inscription on the metal bands used by the U.S. Department of the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed.

The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey, abbreviated, "Wash. Biol. Surv." until the agency received the following letter from an Arkansas camper:

"Dear Sirs: While camping last week I shot one of your birds. I think it was a crow. I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and I want to tell you it was horrible."

In Marianist L.I.F.E. we build a community, we share, we grow, we support one another on our faith journeys. Call Maggie Atkinson (258-3702), [email protected] for more info.
