Come, Visit the Lord
In The Blessed Sacrament
On Wednesday the 26th, I will have completed 75 years of life on earth. I remember my grandparents when they were that age and they seemed so old. My Papa died when he was 78 and my grandma died when she was 83. So I know that somewhere not far beyond 75 lies the sure prospect of bodily death. This makes me exceedingly grateful to believe that I won’t just die, but I will rise again by the power and grace of God. But let’s not dwell on that at the moment. A birthday is a time for celebrating life. This was brought home to me last Sunday morning after Mass when a little boy came rushing up to me with a huge smile as he invited me to come to his birthday party. I couldn’t turn him down because we share the very same birth date but 70 years apart. Most people are long since retired by the time they are 75, but priests in Oklahoma aren’t even permitted to retire until that age. So, as of Wednesday I could choose to do that. But because I don’t feel 75 most of the time and since I love serving you as a priest, I hope to be able to continue in my post as long as I enjoy good health. I still go to the gym 5 or 6 times a week so I’m in relatively good shape for the shape I’m in . But I am required by canon law to offer my resignation from office to the Archbishop and I will be doing that in the days ahead. Because we have such a great shortage of priests that we have had to import more than 25 priests from India, Africa, and Latin America, the archbishop is inclined to permit priests to continue on the job as long as they feel up to it. I will be letting him know that I’m feeling up to it. I wouldn’t even consider continuing were it not for the support of a great parish staff and such faithful deacons. Nor would I wish to stay on the job were it not for the love and support of the many wonderful parishioners whom I have grown to love so much over the course of these last 19 years. The best gift you could give me for my 75th birthday is that of your prayers. Among the things I have truly learned over these past decades is the power of prayer. Thanks you so much for your respect, your love, and your prayers.

MASS AT 6:00PM
In this Mass we will commend to God all the souls of the faithful departed. Some of these lesser known souls are already living among the saints, while others are experiencing further purification so they will be prepared to see God face to face when Christ comes again in all his glory. Keep in mind that the souls in purgatory are destined for heaven and we Catholics believe that we can very much assist them through our constant prayers for God’s
mercy. .
This commemorative book will be placed close to the altar throughout the month of November. We will happily
inscribe in it whatever new names you designated on the special All Souls envelopes. If you wish to have one or more of your loved ones remembered in a specific Mass, be sure to circle those names on the All Souls envelope. If you wish, you may make the customary Mass offering of $10.
We have many pictures of loved ones which you have entrusted to our care. Please bring any other pictures as soon as you can and place them in the box
on the table in the Commons. Indicate the name and their relationship to you so we can return them. Pictures will be displayed throughout November as a visible sign of our communion
with all who have gone before us in the hope of rising again.
