ICRA is seeking to fill a postdoctoral research fellow posi-tion in the scope of the ERC Starting Grant ELECTRON4WATER - Three-dimensional nanoelectrochemical sys-tems based on low-cost reduced gra-phene oxide: the next generation of water treatment sys-tems (www.electron4water.com), led by Prof. Jelena Radjenovic.
The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent research on the pro-ject, and work closely with the PhD stu-dents working on the project. The scholar will also be exposed to a multidiscipli-nary research environment at ICRA, and potentially involve in other ongoing pro-jects.
Successful candidate will receive a two-
year contract, with possible extensions
based on performance. Salary will de-
pend on the previous experience of the
candidate, as evaluated by the members
of the reviewing committee.

Advanced Oxidation Processes for Water Treat-
ment and Reuse:
Applications and Implications
Division of Environmental Chemistry
Abstracts Submission
Deadline:
March 12, 2018
A dvanced oxidation processes, which
are based on the generation of highly re-
active radical species (e.g., hydroxyl, per-
oxyl, superoxide, chlorine, sulfate, singlet
oxygen) have shown great potential for
them removal of contaminants of emerg-
ing concern and for the inactivation of
pathogens. Water security and conserva-
tion are areas in which AOPs provide a
means to remove small molecular con-
taminants, but each method has challeng-
es that need to be overcome for their ap-
plications to become viable.
This symposium will focus on the latest
advances in the materials, underlying
chemistry, and applications of advanced
oxidation processes, alone or coupled
with other technologies, for the removal
of contaminants and pathogens of emerg-
ing concern. Examples of such contami-
nants include endocrine disrupting chemi-
cals, pharmaceuticals, personal care prod-
ucts, cyanotoxins, and disinfection by-
products (DBPs). Papers are solicited on
the chemistry of free radicals, fate of con-
taminants, AOP removal efficacy, mecha-
nistic modeling, toxicity of byproducts,
engineering design, sustainability assess-
ment, and new application of AOPs.
Topics covered in this
session include, but are
not limited to:
Heterogeneous cataly-
sis and photocatalysis
UV/hydrogen perox-

UV/free chlorine
Ozone, ozone with
hydrogen peroxide

The International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Sub-stances (ISPTS) is a well known international conference series hosted in prominent academic institutions around the globe. Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS) are receiving worldwide attention due to their high resistance to degradation from abiotic and biotic fac-tors, high mobility, high bioaccumulation, and long term toxicity to the environment and human health. The ISPTS provides the primary plat-form for scientists, experts and students working on PTC to discuss and exchange information on environmental processes and toxicity, as well as on the development of innovative technologies for contamination control and remediation of PTS (including organic & metal-organic compounds, and so called "micro-pollutants").
The Symposium will focus on, but will not be limited to, the following themes:
1. Sources, transport and fate of PTS
2. Emerging contaminants of concern
3. Toxicology and eco-toxicology of PTS
4. Analytical and bioanalytical methods
5. Fate and Toxicity Modeling
6. Risk assessment of PTS
7. Mitigation and remediation of PTS
8. Environmental pollution and health
9. Tribute sessions to the lifework of Prof. Karl Fent

in Science and Technology)”.
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a pan-European intergovernmental framework. Its mission
is to enable break-through scientific and technological developments leading to new concepts and products and thereby
contribute to strengthening Europe’s research and innovation capacities. It allows researchers, engineers and scholars
to jointly develop their own ideas and take new initiatives across all fields of science and technology, while promoting
multi- and interdisciplinary approaches. COST aims at fostering a better integration of less research intensive countries
to the knowledge hubs of the European Research Area. The COST Association, an International not-for-profit Associa-
tion under Belgian Law, integrates all management, governing and administrative functions necessary for the operation
of the framework. The COST Association has currently 36 Member Countries. www.cost.eu
