An application programming interface (API) is a set of programming instructions and standards for

accessing a Web-based software application or tools. Software providers can release their own API todevelopers/clients/users, so they can develop and design products powered by the remote service

OpenID is a decentralized, lightweight protocol for single sign-on and portable identity. If I want to changemy password for all of my social networking sites, I simply change my password once with my OpenIDprovider and it is reflected across all those sites.

OAuth is an authentication protocol that allows users to approve application to act on their behalf withoutsharing their password

Facebook is now implementing OpenID protocols.
