POUR IT OUT In this activity, the children will play with water. Today we will hear about how God provided water to Moses and his people.

Supplies: 1. Deep rectangular bin 2. Water 3. Towel 4. Different items used for pouring (6–8 cups, measuring cups, watering cans, colanders, and

containers of all different sizes)

How-To: 1. Fill up the rectangular bin halfway with water. 2. Put all the items into the water. 3. Children will use the items to scoop up some water and pour it inside the bin.

Say This: Before the Activity: Who wants to play with some water? I love getting my hands a little wet while having fun too! Everyone, grab an item out of the water. Let's play!

During the Activity: You can scoop up some water and pour it out. You can even try to pour water into your friend's cup. Try not to splash. Now switch cups with your friend. Can you fill it all the way to the top?

After the Activity: Great job playing in the water and staying dry! Today we will hear about some people who really needed water!

2-YEAR-OLDS - AUGUST WEEK 4

WHAT I NEED In this activity, we'll introduce the idea that God gives us the things we need. Today we'll hear about a time when God showed how much he loved his people by providing them with the things they needed.

Supplies: 1. Various items around the room (e.g., books, toys, craft supplies)

How-To: 1. Tell the kids you're going to play a game. You'll ask for an item, and they'll locate it and bring it

to you. 2. In a manner similar to “I Spy,” ask the children to find an object for you from around the room

(e.g., a doll, book, block, car, piece of paper, something yellow, something round) and bring the item to you.

3. Thank them for providing you with your requested item and ask for another.

Say This: Before the Activity: Who wants to play a game? I'm going to pretend I'm stuck in this spot, and I really, really need some things from around the room. Can you help me find what I need? (Let children respond.) Great! I'm going to stand here and ask you for something. It could be a book or a toy or anything we can see. Then your job is to find it and bring it to me. I know you are going to be such good helpers giving me what I need.

During the Activity: Who can find a (name of item from around the room) for me? (Let children respond.) Okay, go! (Verbally direct the kids if they're having difficulty.) Alright, now bring it back to me! Great job, (child's name)! Thank you for giving me what I needed—a (item)! Now who can find (another item)? (Continue as time allows.)

After the Activity: Thanks for helping me find all of those items. Today we will hear about some people who really needed something.

TABLE CENTERFOOD FIND In this activity, we'll engage our senses and curiosity with play food. Today’s story tells about a time when God provided food for his people.

Supplies: 1. Large plastic bin 2. White crinkle paper 3. Toy food items (approx. 10)

How-To: 1. Fill the bin with crinkle paper, and hide a variety of toy food items in it. 2. Encourage the children to dig their hands inside the bin to find the hidden food. 3. Praise and engage the children as they find the items. Say This: Before the Activity: Wow! Look at this bin. It's so full of crinkly paper (crinkle the paper for emphasis), but I think I see more inside than just paper! (Pull out one of the toy food items.) Look what I found—a (food item). Isn't that amazing? I was just feeling a little hungry, and look what I found! I wonder what other yummy foods might be in here. Do you want to help me dig inside to see what else we can find? (Let children respond.)

During the Activity: Okay, let's dig our hands in this bin and see what else is in here. (Encourage the children to reach into the bin.) Oh, yay! (Child's name) found a (name of item). Yum! I love eating (name of item), do you? What color is it? What shape does the (name of item) look like? What else can we find? (Continue to play and praise.)

After the Activity: Finding all of that food was fun, but now I’m really hungry. Today we will hear about some people who really needed food.

BIBLE STORY

Supplies: 1. Bible 2. Brown crinkle paper 3. Tan crinkle paper 4. Spray mister

How-To: 1. Guide children to gather around you. 2. Open the Bible and lay it in front of you. 3. Have the supplies next to you.

Say This: STORYTELLER: My tummy has been growling all day. I need some food. The Bible tells us about a time when God’s people were on a long trip and they needed food too. God was with them and gave them what they needed. At night, God gave his people meat to eat. (Spread out brown crinkle paper.) Everyone gathered up what they needed. (Gather up the paper really quickly.) And then everyone ate. Pretend to eat with me. (Pretend to eat.)

Then they went to sleep. Everyone pretend to sleep. (Lay your head down on your hands, and then spread out the tan crinkle paper.)

Wake up! What do you see? (Let children respond.) When they woke up the next morning, there was bread on the ground for everyone!

Everyone had enough to eat. Every evening there was meat (spread out more brown crinkle paper), and every morning there was bread (spread out more tan crinkle paper)!

Just like the people who take care of you give you food when you’re hungry, God gave them food when they were hungry.

Later, they were thirsty and needed water. And God gave them water! (Gently spray with water.)

God was with them and gave them what they needed. God is with you too and will give you what you need! God is always with you, and [Big Idea] God is always with me! [Key Question] Who is always with me?
