From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45). If you held a mirror up to your life, would it reflect God’s love and grace? If you are struggling with this, try changing your attitude from “I want more” to “thank you God for everything you have given me, I have enough to share.” This change in perspective will bring you joy through service to others.

QAC Operating Income Report Note: Operating Income includes regular collection, rental, and interest income.

Income Expenses Difference August 2015 $ 18,840 $ 17,036 $ 1,804 Year to Date $ 32,343 $ 32,470 ($ 127)

Our fiscal year is July 1st to June 30th. Thank you for your generosity!

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Presider……………………. Fr. Ed Jach, S.M. Assisting............................. Deacon Greg Cecere Liturgy Planner……………..Anita Smith Music Director……………... Teesie Chandler Interpreter for the Deaf........Janet Miller

Isaiah 53:10-11: The long, painful history of persecution in the life of the Jewish people gives Isaiah’s suffering servant songs a wrenching poignancy—but adds a note of hope as well. God’s chosen people “shall see the light in fullness of days.”

Hebrews 4:14-16: Jesus shared completely in our weakness. He was tested in every way we are. Jesus was tempted by Satan in several ways to be unfaithful to God. He did not submit. All our temptations are meant in some way to compromise our fidelity to God. But we do not submit because we know that temptation can be resisted. Our great high priest has shown us that.

Mark 10:35-45: James and John give Jesus another opportunity to describe his passion and death. They provide the context in which Jesus can predict the suffering and death of all who follow him in radical discipleship. All will, in some way, give their lives in ransom for the many—like the suffering servant in Isaiah—if they choose to be genuine disciples. Those who want to rank first must serve the rest. It is serving, not being served that tells you who rates in this group. Human expectations about rank are turned upside down.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week. CELL PHONES: Out of respect for the liturgy, please silence all cell phones. Many thanks!

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY COLLECTION - TODAY: "Being a missionary is not about proselytizing or mere strategy; mission is part of the 'grammar' of faith, something essential for those who listen to the voice of the Spirit who whispers 'Come' and 'Go forth.'" ~ Pope Francis

In Scripture, we read that St. Paul asked the Gentile Churches to take up a collection to support the Church in Jerusalem. Now we are asked to reach out and support the young churches throughout our world. Your prayers and generous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in the collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve in those on the margins and in most need. Some mission dioceses need funding to rebuild after earthquakes, tsunamis and conflicts. Many are trying to construct their first orphanages, seminaries, convents, clinics, and schools. So please be generous to empower our fellow Catholics overseas. Pope Francis says "gracias" for your generosity.

AUTUMN INSPIRATION RETREAT: Saturday, Oct 24th, Noon-5:00 PM, Sieben Hall. Our special guest will be Dr. Kelly Johnson, associate professor of Religious Studies at the University of Dayton. Kelly is author of The Fear of Beggars: Poverty and Stewardship in Christian Ethics, and teaches courses in Catholic social tradition, war and peace, human rights, and theological approaches to discipleship. She will deliver a keynote titled: From Stewardship to Sanctity: Francis' Theology for Environmentalists, and a breakout session titled Delight and Asceticism in the Life of St. Francis. The day will also feature a nature hike, a labyrinth walk, and guided prayer experiences. Registration forms available in the vestibule.

BE THE CHURCH 2015: Oct 24th & 25th. Mark your calendars for this service event. Our community members take the opportunity to go out and serve the greater community. Sign ups ae underway now. I need your suggestions for some volunteer opportunities. If you know of a group or person who may need our assistance, AND you would like to coordinate that particular activity, please contact me via email: [email protected]. Currently we have the following activities:

1. Honor Flight card making/letter writing 2. Serving a meal; Distinguished Speaker Event on Oct 21st sponsored by the Catholic

Social Services of Miami Valley Catholic Social Action /Dayton Weavers of Justice (Si Lounge and Chapel)

3. House of Bread 4. Monetary contributions toward a bunk bed and mattresses for a family in need 5. ‘Feed the Creek’ (see below)

‘FEED the CREEK’: Consider becoming part of “Feed the Creek,” an organization in Beavercreek with a mission to tackle childhood hunger. In Beavercreek and many communities across the country, churches, community organizations, businesses, students and families are working together to make sure that children, who receive reduced cost and free lunch during the week, also have food for the weekend. On a rotating Monday or Tuesday, volunteers come together for approximately 90 minutes to be part of a unique "assembly line" to fill (approx.) 300 bags with the necessary food items. With good organization and quick work, the filled bags are separated according to schools and numbers needed . With the help of many volunteers, they find their way to the schools and into the hands of students by dismissal. Interested in helping with this worthy project and like more information? Contact Darlene Stout, 426-9524 or email [email protected].

A time to look into your heart, listen to the voice of God. He is asking you to help yourself by accepting His love and forgiveness. Nov 20th-22nd, Registration (513) 784-0531

FAVORITE QUOTES: 1) "You change your life by changing your heart." ~ St. Benedict of Nursia 2) "We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way." ~ St. Francis of Assisi

THE RULES OF CHOCOLATE: If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly. Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all count as fruit, so eat

as many as you want. The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car. The

solution: Eat it in the parking lot. Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite, and

you'll eat less. If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of

heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves. If I eat equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate, is that a balanced diet? Don't

they actually counteract each other?

MORE NEW VOCABULARY: FRUST (frust) n. The small line of debris that refuses to be swept onto the dust pan and

keeps backing a person across the room until he finally decides to give up and sweep it under the rug.

LACTOMANGULATION (lak' to man gyu lay' shun) n. Manhandling the "open here" spout on a milk container so badly that one has to resort to the "illegal side."

PEPPIER (pehp ee ay') n. The waiter at a fancy restaurant whose sole purpose seems to be walking around asking diners if they want ground pepper.

PHONESIA (fo nee' zhuh) n. The affliction of dialing a phone number and forgetting whom you were calling just as they answer.

PUPKUS (pup' kus) n. The moist residue left on a window after a dog presses its nose to it. TELECRASTINATION (tel e kras tin ay' shun) n. The act of always letting the phone ring at

least twice before you pick it up, even when you're only six inches away.

HEALING MASS - IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH: Tuesday, Oct 27th, 6:30 PM. We center this time together on the need for emotional, physical, and mental healing of those among us. This gathering comprises of the celebration of the Eucharist leading into an extended laying of hands upon each individual by the priests present and the healing team at the parish. If nothing else, you will leave with a deep assurance of God’s presence. Immaculate Conception Church, 2300 S. Smithville Road., Dayton.
