Our children will need

I recently received some

good news from the

Department of Education,

with $50,000 now

allocated for the

promised ‘Nature Play’

area for the early

childhood area. Originally

this was promised to the

P&C, so parents, teachers

term goes on.

Jason Shapcott

Principal

Welcome back everyone

to Term 3 for 2017.

As usual, we have a

number of whole school

events planned for Term

3 that should be very

exciting and provide some

fantastic curriculum

opportunities for our

students.

The Caralee Choir

traditionally performs at

Crown Perth, and I know

Ms Longley is already

preparing our choir

students for that

performance.

Term 3 also sees Book

Week and the parade

happen in Week 5, but

this year we have timed it

to coincide with the

Family Picnic Day. This

is so parents can enjoy the

parade and picnic on one

day.

Later in the term we will

have the Athletics

Carnival, as well as

Swimming Lessons in

Weeks 9 & 10. We are

happy to negotiate a

payment plan, if necessary,

to ensure that everyone

has the chance to

participate in swimming

lessons that could

potentially save your

child’s life in the water.

I would like to welcome

Ms Roisin McMahon to

staff for the rest of the

year. Ms McMahon is

taking D1, whilst Ms Wain

works with teachers and

children to teach ‘coding’,

which is part of the new

Digital Technologies

Curriculum. As previously

mentioned, our P&C raised

the money for Caralee

teachers to receive

specialist training in this

new area which will see

our school retain this

expertise within our staff.

There are a number of

terms related to

technology parents may

see in the media relating to

schools at the moment.

ICT (or Information

Communication

Technologies) has been

around for a while now,

and traditionally sees

students using computers

to type stories or create

presentations. It is

expected students can use

ICT, if appropriate, to

enhance learning across

the traditional subjects.

Digital Technologies, as

outlined in the Western

Australian Curriculum

(WAC), focuses on

creating and designing ICT

solutions using tools such

as Coding. One way to

This term, the Fremantle LDC has implemented a special

reading program for low

confidence readers

called “Story Dogs”.

Each Tuesday morning,

Mrs Lynley Black, and

her dog, Lucy, will be

visiting C Block to help

children with their

reading.

Lucy wears a special

coat that identifies her

as a working dog, and

we ask that all parents

and children respect

and understand not to

approach her whilst she is on duty

(unless invited).

In music, the upper school students have begun their 'Ukulele Hero' unit. They are learning to read the notes on the musical staff & play the corresponding notes on the uke, whilst rocking out to 'Best Day of My Life'.

The middle school kids are applying their knowledge of rhythm & notes to play the sweetest sounding instrument in the music room - the recorder! Our classroom has turned into a Dojo as the children work through from white belt to black belt in 'Recorder Karate'.

Students in Years 1 & 2 have been learning all about our notes ‘so, mi & la’ with songs like ‘Bumblebee, Lemonade & Cobbler Cobbler’. Kids, can you teach these games to your family?

In Week 7 of this term (on Tuesday, the 29th of August), the Caralee Choir will be performing at Crown Theatre!

Rehearsals have already begun, and the Choir students have been working very hard to prepare for this event.

The Western Australian Government Schools Music Society (WAGSMS) concert at Crown will commence from 7pm with tickets for family and friends sold via the Ticketmaster website.

If you would like to come along & support our Choir, please purchase a ticket as soon as possible to avoid disappointment through Schools Make Music at www.ticketmaster.com.au.

Information notes & permission slips for this concert to follow later this week.

D3 role play

In drama this term, the Caralee kids are transforming into a bunch of unruly, dramatic & enthusiastic pirates! This week, we have been looking at ‘characterisation’ and ‘role’ by inventing our own pirate characters & creating improvised scenes on the pirate ship.
