TODAY’S READINGS & REFLEXION First Reading — Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! The L shines upon you and the glory of the Lord appears over you (Isaiah 60:1-6). Psalm — Lord, every nation on earth will adore you (Psalm 72). Second Reading — The mystery has been made known that the Gentiles are coheirs, copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6). Gospel — Magi from the east arrived, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:1-12). LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACES “Appearances can be deceiving,” as the saying goes. As we celebrate the Epiphany, the “appearing” of the eternal Word of God on earth, this is still true. What rapturous foresight must have filled Isaiah as he wrote the words we hear today. How, for four hundred years, they must have filled the hearts of the people of Israel with hope for the day when God’s glory would shine on them. How deceived some must have felt when the glory of God came to them in the lowliest and humblest of human lives. We have many expectations about how the divine presence will appear among us. But we can also set ourselves up, through these expectations, to miss the divine glory when it truly appears. We get caught up in looking for the star, forgetting that the star is not the divine sign, the babe is. BUSCAR EN EL LUGAR CORRECTO “Las apariencias engañan” dice el refrán. Al celebrar la epifanía, la manifestación del Verbo de Dios eterno en la tierra, el refrán sigue siendo cierto. ¡Qué sublime premonición debe haber sentido Isaías al escribir las palabras que hoy escuchamos! Por cuatrocientos años, cómo habrán llenado los corazones del pueblo de Israel con esperanzas de que llegaría el día en que la gloria de Dios se derramaría sobre ellos. ¡Qué desilusionados deben haberse sentido algunos cuando la gloria de Dios les llegó en una vida humana de las más bajas y humildes! Tenemos muchas expectativas de cómo la presencia divina va a manifestarse entre nosotros. Pero también podemos exponernos, por culpa de esas expectativas, a perder de vista la gloria divina cuando se nos aparece de verdad. Nos entretenemos buscando la estrella, y nos olvidamos que la estrella no es la señal divina, sino el bebé. Puede que tengamos que persistir en el camino antes de llegar a encontrarnos con la apariencia real de la gloria de Dios en nuestra vida: Jesucristo.

Del Escritorio del Pastor... Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo: “Se postrarán ante ti Señor todos los pueblos de la tierra”. Ya Enero, que significa “Portero” nos abre las puertas de este nuevo calendario 2016 con la Fiesta de la Catolicidad, la fiesta de la Epifanía, de la manifestación de Dios por medio de una estrella a todos los pueblos de la tierra señalándonos al que ha de venir a regir los pueblos con justicia, el Príncipe de la Paz. Pero como todo lo que procede de Dios no viene anunciado con grandes señales, o con la fuerza del poderío del mundo, se manifiesta en lo inadvertido, en lo que parece insignificante y por eso mismo sólo podrá ser reconocido por hombres y mujeres de corazón limpio, que tienen intenciones que nacen de la fe, en definitiva por hombres y mujeres de buena voluntad. Y de esta gente noble tenemos poblada la Parroquia de Santa Fortunata, colaboradora, solidaria, transparente y con una humildad probada a pesar de los logros académicos de muchos que sin embargo son parte de esa gente sencilla que avanza como comunidad parroquial hacia el futuro. Qué más manifestación de Dios a través de todos ustedes, el Señor ha hecho y sigue haciendo su obra en cada uno y en cada vez que nos juntamos para ser “nosotros”, alabando a nuestro Hacedor, agradeciéndole por tantas bondades venidas de El y pidiéndole que siga fortaleciendo nuestra fe para ser parte de la diferencia que necesita este mundo piramidal de apariencia y engaños. Aunque algunos salieron fuera de la ciudad o del país, muchos pudieron participar en los distintos servicios parroquiales en este tiempo de Navidad, gracias por participar, por compartir, por sus detalles para hacer sonreír al otro con sentimientos de verdadera fe. Aprovecho la oportunidad para agradecer los gestos y regalos de algunos hacia mi persona, que el Señor les compense con creces. Gracias a quienes conforman el personal de Santa Fortunata por su diligente y efectivo trabajo, a las Hermanas, María como asistente administrativa, Phyllis nuestra contadora, Carlos Gonzáles por las decoraciones e iluminación navideñas, dentro y fuera de la iglesia, este año estuvieron mejor que nunca. A nuestro organista Wesner con los coros que definen la belleza en la liturgia de cada servicio. Gracias a todos los servidores, a los monaguillos y al Consejo Pastoral parroquial. Ya arrancamos con la Campaña Capital de la Diócesis, en Diciembre empezamos con tres familias y añadiendo mi persona ya tenemos en promesas colectado $82.500 de los 190.000 que es la meta. Pedimos a Dios que el grupo de 7 que vamos esta semana a visitar contribuyan generosamente y realicemos nuestros objetivos. Más adelante les detallaremos nuestros proyectos parroquiales. From the Desk of the Pastor... Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Lord, every nation on earth will adore you”. The month of January, which means "doorman", opens the doors to this new 2016’s calendar with the Feast of Catholicism, the Feast of the Lord's Epiphany. We celebrate God's manifestation via a star to all people on earth, pointing to whom is destined to reign all people with justice: the Prince of Peace. As everything that comes from God doesn't come advertised with great signs or with the world's power; it is shown in things that appear insignificant and as such, will only be recognized by men and women with a clean heart, with intentions born from faith; in short: by men and women of good will.

And of this noble and kind people is our St

Fortunata Parish comprised. Helpful people, transparent people with a humble heart proven in spite of the academic achievements of many that form part of this parish community that moves forward together towards the future. Could there be a greater manifestation of God than by each and every one of you? The Lord has and continues to do his work in each one and each time we get together to praise our Maker, to thank him for all his graces and to ask him to continue strengthening our faith to be part of the change needed in a world filled with falsities and lies.

Although some parishioners went on vacation out of the city or the country, many participated in the different Parish Services during the Christmas time, Thank you all for your participation, for the sharing, for your details that caused smiles to each other with the feelings of true faith. I take this opportunity to thank some of you for the kind gestures and gifts you gave me, May the Lord compensate you a hundred fold.

I would like to thank the Fortunata staff for their diligent and effective work, the Sisters, Maria as the Administrative Assistant, Phyllis our accountant, Carlos Gonzalez for the beautiful decorations and Christmas lightings both inside and outside the Church, this year they were better than ever. Our organist Wesner who with the choir define the beauty of the liturgy of each Service. Thanks to all who served, the altar servers and the Parish Council.

We already start the Diocese’s Capital Campaign. We began with three families in December and including myself, we already have $82,500 in pledges from which the goal is $190,000. We Pray to God that those seven that we are planning to visit this week will contribute generously and we my accomplish our objectives. We will share with you the details of the Parish projects. Let us continue praying for each other and remember that together we can do great things.
