Take a look at what our Middle School students are learning in Science-
The Seventh Grade students are just completing the section on the genetic code, how cells produce proteins, and how mutations can affect an organism. We will be having a test on Genetics, be presenting our Paper Pets, and then move on to modern genetics where we will learn about human inheritance, genetic disorders, and advances in genetics. We will end this unit by extracting DNA from a strawberry.
The Eighth Grade students just finished with ionic bonds and have learned how to draw electron dot diagrams and how write oxidation and chemical formulas. We are now learning about covalent bonds and will get to pull out the molecule kits before wrapping up our study of chemistry by the end of next week. We will then begin studying physical science and begin by building toothpick bridges.
The Sixth Grade students have just learned the five requirements needed for a substance to be classified as a mineral in Science. We are now looking at the most useful physical properties for identifying most minerals: color, luster, streak, hardness, cleavage, fracture, crystal form, and density. We will be conducting different tests over the next week to see if we can identify a box of unlabeled minerals correctly before moving on to our study of rocks.
The Fifth Grade students continue to learn about the human body by studying our major systems and the organs involved in each in Science. We have completed the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, and respiratory systems and are now working on the digestive and excretory systems. Students should be working on their digestive system projects this week and be ready to present them next week. Look for pictures of their presentations soon.
St. Thomas Aquinas School Faculty & Staff would like to wish Fr. Phil, parish staff & parishioners a very Happy Easter. May this special day bring you and your families great joy, peace and
happiness. May Jesus fill your hearts with His love.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY CELEBRATION APRIL 8th at 2:30 p.m. When Pope John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina in the year 2000, he also, on the same day, surprised the entire world by establishing Divine Mercy Sunday as a feast day for the entire Church. Here at St. Thomas, we celebrate Divine Mercy on its feast day; April 8th. Opportunity for confession will run from 2:30-4:00 p.m. with Divine Mercy service beginning at 3:00 p.m., the hour of mercy. A reception is to follow in the church basement.
***Participants of the 6-week Divine Mercy retreat will be making their consecration to Divine Mercy also.*** Please note, the Divine Mercy Novena begins on Good Friday and ends on the Feast of Divine Mercy. Pamphlets for this novena to be prayed at home including information about the Divine Mercy devotion can be found on the tables in the back of the church. "My heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners...It is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from my heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. (Jesus to St. Faustina (Diary, 367))
QUESTION OF THE WEEK for Sunday, April 1, 2018
What “stones” block people’s rising to new life?
Reading 1: Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Reading 2: Colossians 3:1-4
Theme: Easter
Gospel: John 20:1-9
ALPHA: GOT QUESTIONS? Question: Is Alpha for you?
Answer: Alpha is for anyone and everyone! We do mean anyone: Devout Catholics, once-in-a while church goers, searchers, questioners, non-believers, anyone you can think of. Simply put, Alpha has no limits. No limits to who can attend. No limits to what questions you can ask. No limits to the friendships that may develop. No limits to the listening, laughter, love, and great food you will experience. Don’t believe us? Watch for more information. Our next Alpha begins in the fall.
“Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; break into song; sing praise.” (Psalm 93:4)
Music has a way of lifting the heart.
It’s no wonder that singing is such a wonderful form
of praise. Name a song that fills you with joy.
Sing it as you drive or upload a version of it
to your computer or phone!
Notice how you feel before and after the song is sung or
played. How has it helped to combat cabin fever?
