Charles R. Culver (July 19, 1868 - Dec 25, 1961), archive. He wasan early high wheel cycle racer (once held the record Springfield toBoston), promoter, trainer, inventor of the "double loope" and "cyclewheel". He also taught fencing, wrestling and bicycle racing atYale. Mr. Culver was also an automobile pioneer, working for KnoxAuto Co., and participated in the first Gilidden Tour. In 1910 hepresided as president of the Pierce Arrow Co. of Springfield.Achieve contains, early photo portraits of Culver, scrapbooksconcerning early bicycle, auto and athletic endeavors. Alsofeatures a large collection of 19th C. correspondence with the PopeMfg. Co. concerning bicycle racing, racers, machines, parts, andconsignments. The Pope achieve bears signatures of ArthurPattison, Mark Reeves, Geo. Pope, W. Atwood, J.
