Dear Friends, Exportadora Santa Cruz is a company that was created over 25 years ago. We started by putting all our efforts into exporting grapes and avocados, and our first clients were located in the United States of America.

Currently, we are a company that exports to four continents. Our products are avocados, citrus fruits, kiwis, blueberries, per-simmons, and pomegranates.

Our goal is to be the best exporting firm in our area and the keys to our success have been the transparency with which we do business, and the professional and people skills of those who work in our company.

It has been a great challenge to be among the largest twenty fruit exporting companies on the market, while at the same time meeting the needs of our suppliers and buyers in a satis-factory manner throughout the years. As a matter of fact, we are one of the largest five exporting firms of kiwis, avocados, mandarines, lemons, persimmons, and grapefruit.

All of this is possible thanks to the continuing support of our growers, the suppliers of our materials and agricultural inputs, and our final consumers. We maintain an excellent relationship with everyone who is involved in our business. Our mutual relationship has seen the growth of their companies as we, in turn, have provi-ded them continually with consistent products of excellent quality.

We are currently undergoing a stage of huge expansion in terms of our own production as well as third-party production in order to be able to fulfill the volume requirements for our customers. Likewise, we are considering acquiring the certification of our production and packaging processes. This will be done to ena-ble us to deliver fruit of the highest possible quality to the market, while also complying with food health and safety standards. Con 25 años de innovadora producción, y ventas que en 2016 superaron los US$ 74 millones, EXPOR-TADORA SANTA CRUZ es una de las empresas chi-lenas más destacadas en el rubro. No es casualidad que las autoridades de diversos gobiernos del país, hayan escogido su casa matriz para hacer anuncios importantes para todos los fruticultores. Por ejem-plo, el levantamiento de China a las restricciones de la palta nacional.

Javier Fuchslocher, (Ingeniero Comercial, 45 años), Gerente General de la compañía desde 2009, puntua-liza que comercializan y prestan servicios de exporta-ción de frutas.

“Nuestras marcas representan a más de 200 producto-res, que cultivan sobre 3 mil hectáreas de plantaciones, a quienes les aportamos nuestra experiencia en la produc-ción, logística y comercialización, desde el campo hasta el consumidor final, tanto en Chile como en los principa-les mercados mundiales”, señala el Gerente General.

EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ has over 25 years of innovative production as well as sales that sur-passed US$74 million in 2016. It is one of the most prominent Chilean companies in its field. It is not a coincidence that the authorities of various national governing entities have chosen its headquarters when making important announcements for fruit producers, such as when China decided to lift the restrictions on Chilean avocadoes.

Javier Fuchslocher (Business Administrator, 45 years old) has been the company’s General Manager since 2009. He tells us that the company markets and provi-des fruit exportation services.

The General Manager points out that “our brands re-present over 200 producers, who cultivate over three thousand hectares of plantations. We offer them our experience in terms of production, logistics and marke-ting, from farm to final consumer, not only in Chile but also in the main world markets.”

Algunos de los mercados son EE.UU., Holanda, China, Alemania, Japón, Reino Unido y Argentina, entre otros. Hasta allí se envían paltas, naranjas, kiwis, limones, man-darinas y arándanos entre varios productos.

Exportadora Santa Cruz S.A. ofrece grandes ventajas en su ubicación. Se halla a 18 Kms. al Este de Santiago, la capital de Chile. Posee 2 plantas de embalaje con ca-pacidad para más de 50 millones de kilos, que tienen accesos directos a los principales puertos del país (San Antonio y Valparaíso).

“La fruta que comercializamos proviene desde los valles cercanos a la Cordillera de Los Andes hasta las zonas costeras. Empezamos en La Serena por el norte llegan-do a Valdivia por el sur”, dice el ejecutivo.

La empresa tiene una especial preocupación por la ino-cuidad y calidad de sus productos, lo que permite alcan-zar los más altos índices de calidad exigidos en todo el mundo.

“Otro desvelo permanente es el compromiso con nues-tros trabajadores, aplicando la resposabilidad social como una guía básica de nuestra gestión”, concluye Ja-vier Fuchslocher.

The aforementioned markets are: U.S.A., Netherlands, China, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and Argenti-na, among others. The fruits that are sent to them are fresh avocados, oranges, kiwis, lemons, mandarins and berries.

EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ S.A. offers huge advan-tages due to its location. It is located eighteen kilome-ters to the east of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It has two packing plants with a capacity of over 50 million kilos, which also have direct access to the main ports of the country (San Antonio and Valparaíso).

“The fruit we market comes from the valleys located in regions ranging from the ones near the Andes Moun-tains to the seaside. We start at La Serena in the north all the way to Valdivia in the south,” the executive tells us.

The company maintains a special concern with re-gard to the innocuousness and quality of their pro-ducts, which allows us to meet the highest quality standards.

“Another constant concern for us is the commitment to our employees, therefore applying social responsibility as a basic guideline for our company’s management,” Javier Fuchslocher concludes.

Una cantidad importante de imprevistos, incide directa-mente en el negocio de la fruta. La decisión de qué pro-ducto enviar en el momento adecuado al mercado co-rrecto, está latente en cada temporada.

“Al llegar la fruta a los packings, determinamos cuál es el mejor embalaje, para destinarla a los mercados donde pueda obtener los mayores precios en ese momento, de acuerdo su calidad, calibre, etc.”, señala Raimundo Costa, ingeniero comercial, Gerente Comercial, casi 7 años en EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ.

Aunque se trata de embalajes lo más parecidos posibles, para cambiarse de un mercado a otro, en caso de un im-previsto, hay destinos que piden cajas grandes, otros que deben ir en cajas de plástico.

Esto ocurre en aquellos lugares donde existe alta hume-dad o mucho calor. Una vez que el agua se condensa, la caja de cartón pierde rigidez y se daña la fruta.

En destino es relevante el cliente. EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ opera con unos 100, o más, dependiendo de la temporada, los cuales son socios comerciales de la com-pañía, privilegiando relaciones de largo plazo.

A significant amount of contingencies can have a direct impact on the fruit business. The decision of which pro-duct to send at the right moment to the right market is always present throughout every season.

“When the fruit reaches the packing houses, we determi-ne the best packaging for it. This is done in order to ship it to the markets where it will obtain the highest prices for that specific moment in time, according to its quality, cali-ber, etc.”, Raimundo Costa states. Costa is Business Admi-nistrator who has worked for seven years as Commercial Manager of Exportadora Santa Cruz.

Packaging is kept as similar as possible in order to be able to change from one market to the next. However, if a contingency arises, there are destinations that might demand big boxes, whereas others will ask for plastic boxes. The latter happens in places with high humidity or extreme heat. Once the water condensates, a card-board box looses its rigidity and therefore the fruit will be damaged.

In terms of destination, the customer is fundamental. Ex-portadora Santa Cruz trades with over one hundred or more destinations, depending on the season. Our clients are business partners of the company, thus privileging long-term relationships.

Cambio climático

Algunas especies son beneficiadas por esta alteración, pues adelantan su cosecha debido al mayor calor. Esto permite llegar a los mercados mundiales antes que la competencia del hemisferio sur, como Sudáfrica, Argentina y Australia, entre otros.

Aunque, a frutas, como arándanos, uva, cerezas y carozos, la variación climática les está quitando la capacidad de via-je, pues el estrés calórico aumenta la deshidratación y afec-ta a las presiones del producto.

Un ejemplo de este tema fueron las inesperadas lluvias de la segunda semana de diciembre de 2016.

“Un elemento altamente favorable para Chile, es el traba-jo hecho por las autoridades en los últimos 30 años, en materia de control de pesticidas, fitosanitario, etc., que hoy permite a la fruta nacional llegar a todos los mercados sin restricciones, a diferencia de sus competidores del hemisfe-rio sur”, finaliza el Gerente Comercial.

Climate Change

On the one hand, some species benefit from climate change because their harvest might happen ahead of the usual time due to the increase in heat. This alteration allows us to reach world markets before our competitors from the Southern Hemisphere, such as South Africa, Ar-gentina, and Australia, among others.

On the other hand, climate change is affecting fruits--such as blueberries, grapes, cherries, and stone fruits--in terms of their transportation. This occurs because the caloric stress increases dehydration and affects the pressure of the pro-duct. One example of this scenario was the unexpected rain during the second week in December 2016.

Costa adds that “a highly favorable fact for Chile is that the work done by the authorities in the past 30 years, in terms of control of pesticides, phytosanitary measures, etc., allows national fruit to reach every market with no restric-tions, which is not the case for our competitors from the Southern Hemisphere.”


La tecnología de punta en los campos propios y el apoyo permanente en el manejo adecuado del huerto en los productores terceros, permite a EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ S.A., mantener un nivel de calidad y frecuencia para cumplir con los compradores en los mercados mundiales.

Hay una producción de campos propios y otros de produc-tores asociados, que se manejan con tecnología de punta.

“El objetivo es tener fruta de máxima calidad y entrega segura, para cumplir especialmente con las cadenas mun-diales de supermercados, que exigen una estabilidad en el tiempo”, señala Edmund Calvert, Gerente de Produc-ción de Frutales de Invierno (paltas y cítricos). Ingeniero agrónomo, partió casi con el nacimiento de la compañía hace 23 años.

Productores independientes

Desde el comienzo la empresa trabajó con producto-res terceros, a los cuales les entrega importantes herra-mientas para la toma de decisiones, para que las espe-cies y variedades sean adecuadas a sus zonas, al clima, suelo, disponibilidades de agua, etc.

“Los orientamos en el diseño las plantaciones para que ocupen las tecnologías más modernas en los recursos agua, el manejo hormonal de la poda, las plagas y en-fermedades”, relata Edmund Calvert, quien agrega “ Es-tamos abocados a que cumplan con las normas en el uso de pesticidas, el trato con personal, etc”.

Se busca que los huertos se certifiquen Global G.A.P., WRAP, que le dan un plus a la fruta para cumplir con los mercados en el mundo.

Our production comes from our own fields as well as from the farms of other associate growers, and they are managed with innovative technology.

“The goal is to produce fruit of the best quality possible and guarantee its delivery in order to fully meet our custo-mers’ expectations, especially from worldwide supermar-ket chains as they demand long-term stability”, Edmund Calvert affirms. Calvert is the Production Manager of Win-ter Fruit Trees (avocados and citrus fruits). He is Agricul-tural Engineer who has worked at the company almost since its launch 23 years ago.

Independent Producers

Since its beginning, the company has worked with third-party growers. They are given vital tools for deci-sion-making, so as to ensure that the species and varie-ties they harvest are the adequate ones for their respec-tive areas, climates, water availability, etc.

“We help by guiding them in terms of their plantations so that they can use avant-garde technology to manage water resources, hormonal aspects of pruning, plagues, and diseases”, Edmund Calvert asserts. He adds that “we want them to fully comply with global standards when using pesticides, interacting with staff, etc.”

The objective is for the farms to be certified by Global G.A.P. and WRAP, as this allows the fruit to meet the standards of markets worldwide.

La planta ubicada en nuestra casa matriz, está a 18 kms. hacia el Oeste de Santiago, la capital de Chile, en el borde de la Ruta 68, que une con los puertos de Valparaíso y San Antonio.

Está certificada por HACCP, Sistema de Análisis de Peligros y de Puntos Críticos de Control, adoptados por la Comisión del Codex Alimentarius (CCA) y por las normas del BRC, Global Standard for Food Safety, del Reunid Unido, que controlan la inocuidad y seguridad alimentaria.

Cuenta con 5.211 m2 de zona de embalaje o packing y 3.216 m2 de espacio para frío. Allí se procesan limones, man-darinas, naranjas, pomelos, tangelos (una fruta cítrica híbrida hecho por el cruce de una mandarina con un pomelo), pal-tas, kiwis, peras, granadas y uvas.

Pudahuel Packing House is located in our headquarters. It is situated 18 kilometers to the west of Santiago, Chile’s capital city, and on the edge of Route 68, which links the ports of Valparaíso and San Antonio.

La planta se encuentra en la ciudad de Quillota, 131 km. al poniente de Santiago, la capital de Chile, a un costado de la Ruta 60, una de las que conduce al puerto de Valparaíso.

Está certificada por HACCP, Sistema de Análisis de Peligros y de Puntos Críticos de Control, adoptados por la Comisión del Codex Alimentarius (CCA) y por las normas del BRC, Global Standard for Food Safety, del Reino Unido, que controlan la inocuidad y seguridad alimentaria.

Posee 6.082. m2 de packing y 2.104 m2 de frigorífico.

En esta planta se procesan kiwis, limones, clementinas, naran-jas, mandarinas, paltas y arándanos.

A QUARTER OF A CENTURY OF CONSTANT GROWTH

EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ nace el 2 de julio de 1990, con la experiencia de años dedicados a exportar produc-tos del mar y frutas frescas, simultáneamente. El crecimien-to hizo que se creara esta nueva sociedad exclusiva para el sector frutícola.

En 1993 nace Cefrupal (Central Frutícola La Palma), en la comuna de Quillota, en sociedad con la Universidad Católi-ca de Valparaíso. Esta alianza estratégica permite operar en una importante zona paltera, con un gran avance en esta área del negocio.

El año 2000 se realiza una importante transformación de esta planta, para enfrentar el crecimiento sostenido de la empresa y alcanzar las metas de mercado. Luego se incor-poran nuevos socios del sector productivo, lo que incremen-ta los volúmenes de exportación en forma muy importante.

Pudahuel

En 1995, EXPORTADORA SANTA CRUZ, compra los frigo-ríficos que arrendaba en Pudahuel, lugar de mantención de las especies exportadas: uvas, ciruelas, paltas, y limones.

Hoy, la compañía se encuentra en los primeros lugares de exportación de fruta fresca desde Chile a los distintos mercados mundiales, con envíos de kiwis, caquis, limones, naranjas, mandarinas, arándanos y paltas.

Exportadora Santa Cruz was launched on July 2nd, 1990, after years of experience dedicated to exporting both sea-food and fresh fruits. Its growth meant that this new and exclusive society was created for the fruit farming sector.

In 1993, CEFRUPAL (Central Frutícola La Palma) was born in the municipality of Quillota, in association with the Ca-tholic University of Valparaíso. This strategic business allian-ce permits us to operate in an important avocado area that is highly developed.

On the year 2000, the plant underwent a huge transforma-tion in order to sustain the increasing growth of the com-pany as well as to fulfill the market goals. After this renova-tion, new partners from the growers sector joined, thereby significantly increasing our volume of exportations.

Pudahuel

In 1995, Exportadora Santa Cruz bought the cold storage plants that it used to rent in Pudahuel. This serves as a pla-ce for storing the species to be exported, namely grapes, plums, avocados, and lemons.

We are currently ranked among the top companies ex-porting fresh fruit from Chile to various world markets. The plant exports kiwis, persimmons, lemons, oranges, tangeri-nes, blueberries, and avocados.
