Welcome and thank you so much for creating Joy for seriously ill kids and teens by launching a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) is an annual campaign to increase awareness of pediatric cancer and raise funds for research.

CCA supports the many great organizations focused on cancer research and finding a cure. But Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) is different. Our work focuses on creating Joy in the moment to enhance the emotional well-being of pediatric patients battling cancer and other serious illnesses – because we’ve seen firsthand that sick kids need #MoreThanMedicine.

Your fundraising efforts will help provide free-of-charge, Joy-based programs to the 30,000+ kids, teens and their family members CCA serves each year.

This campaign supports CCA’s programs of JoyRx that provide the healing power of music, friendship, and nature, as well as financial assistance with essential needs.

In the tools provided within, we’ve highlighted CCA’s Chemo Pal Mentor Program, marking its 20th year in 2019. Your fundraising efforts, in part, will support the training of trusted, adult Chemo Pal mentors who provide much-needed friendship to kids and teens undergoing treatment and a hard-earned break for their loved ones. More than 200 volunteer Chemo Pal mentors are matched each year, and more than 1,500 friendships have been made in the past 20 years – thanks to generous support from friends like you. Thank you!

Throughout Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’ll be highlighting our programs of JoyRx on social media, including this award-winning, only program of its kind in the nation. Thank you for helping CCA create Joy for sick kids and teens who need #MoreThanMedicine.

Create your Personal Fundraising Page!

Visit JoyRx.org/MoreThanMedicine, and click “Become a Fundraiser” to get started. If you need assistance creating your personal fundraising page, please email Madison Burke at [email protected].

The following toolkit is an easy-to-use guide to help kick-off your fundraising efforts and provide you with all the tools you need to meet, and even surpass, your goal!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Set a Fundraising Goal:Setting a goal is an important part of setting yourself up for success. Choose one that feels both realistic and slightly ambitious – you can always raise it.

Gifts of ANY amount make a powerful difference. Below are examples of program impact at different levels. We suggest you pick from one of these goals. If you’d like more support on raising toward your goals, please reach Evan Butler at [email protected].

> $5,000: Sends a family (up to 12 people) to a four-day NatureRx retreat at the Caring Cabin in Pacific City to make treasured, Joyful memories outside of the hospital. Designed with needs of seriously ill children and teens in mind, the fully ADA-accessible Cabin, secluded by nature, is a place where families can take a much-needed mental break and recharge during or after treatment or enjoy beautiful moments with a child whose diagnosis is terminal.

> $2,500: Sponsor one Chemo Pal match for an entire year. The impact of having a Chemo Pal mentor is enormous for both the child and their family. Chemo Pal mentors play games with their mentees, listen to music, share hobbies, or simply offer the comfort of companionship, relieving the anxiety, loneliness, and isolation experienced by children and teens in treatment. They can also give parents a much-needed break to grab a cup of coffee, talk with doctors, or spend time with their other children.

> $1,000: Gives the Joy of music and funds sixty Joy-filled music medicine moments at the bedside of hospitalized kids, relieving their stress, anxiety, and perception of pain by filling their rooms with live music and singing, and sometimes even a dance party.

> $500: Serves families experiencing financial hardship through the Link program, which connects families to resources to cover essential needs, special equipment, or items not covered by insurance. Link also maintains a fund for families who request magical moments of Joy for their child that are otherwise financially unattainable.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Share Your Story!Let your network know why CCA means so much to you. While this guide will help get you started, your personal story will be the most effective tool to inspire your network. Below are helpful tips and things to consider when creating your personal narrative for your fundraising page.

Explain—Let your network know why CCA means so much to you. Educate—Tell them about JoyRx; share CCA’s JoyRx.org website address. Illustrate Impact—Share the story of a Chemo Pal match with your

network by sharing a story we provide, along with photos and video! Invest—There is power in donating to your own page. When your friends

and family see you investing your time and money to a cause you care about, they will more likely be encouraged to donate as well.

Ask—Try to ask for a specific dollar amount whenever possible. 4

Page 5: 24tpr63bd1v71dmt8446c293-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com€¦  · Web viewSeptember is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Childhood cancer causes are statistically underfunded, yet each day

Direct—You don’t have to fit your entire story in your email, linking to your fundraising page where they can learn more about your story will encourage them to act and donate!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Where to Start When Asking for Donations:Cast a wide net! Friends, family, colleagues, and your email contact list would be great place to start. When crafting your ask, remember the following:

Make your “call to action” clear—Set goals and whenever possible try to ask for a specific dollar amount. If you ask for a $100 donation, research shows you are more likely to get that amount, rather than the $50 or $25 they may have given otherwise.

Add Photos—Use the stories and images shared below bring your Chemo Pal story to life. Use images whenever possible in emails, social posts, and on your personal fundraising page.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Chemo Pal Story Template:Moxie, her family, and her Chemo Pal, Ashley are excited to share the story of their match with all of you for this campaign.

This is a story you can copy-and-paste to your personal fundraising page (instructions follow the story) to inspire your friends and potential donors. There is also a video in your personal fundraising page video library to go along with this story.

Moxie’s Story: Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page to support the Children’s Cancer Association’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Campaign!  CCA is a nonprofit delivering transformative moments of JOY to children and teens enduring treatment for serious illnesses, such as cancer.

CCA’s Chemo Pal Mentor Program is fueled by the power of human connection—by matching a caring, trusted, adult friend to accompany children and teens to their hospital treatments, turning an otherwise unpleasant experience into a play session they anticipate.

Ashley has impacted Moxie’s life in such a positive way, bringing Joy during a difficult time through the power of friendship.

Your contribution will help pair a child, like Moxie, with a perfect match, like Ashley!

2. Click sign in on the top right-hand corner and sign in with your credentials.

3. Click the purple “My Webpage” tab.4. In the middle of the page there is a question “Do you want a Video or

Image?” Select Video.5. Under the next section, “Webpage video,” click the “select” hyperlink.6. On the right-hand side in the “Standard Video Library” there are three

video options, select “Moxie’s Story.” 7. Click the grey “Assign” button – this will save the video to your page

and bring you back to the “Edit your Personal Page” webpage.8. On the “Edit your Personal Page” webpage, you will want to copy

submit button – click it. You are all set!10. Start fundraising!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Email Templates:Utilize Your Email Contacts First:Kick off your fundraising efforts by sending an email to each of your prospective donors. For best results, make sure the email is addressed to them personally rather than leading with “Dear Friends.”

Email is the most efficient way for peer-to-peer fundraisers to meet their goals.

Posting on social media alone is not the most effective way to meet your goal. When you start by casting a wide net, you may be surprised by who donates to your page!

Subject: You Can Make a Difference for a Child with Cancer

Hi [_________],

Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month?

The Children’s Cancer Association is an organization that is near and dear to my heart, which is why I have made a commitment to raise critical funds for CCA this September. My fundraising goal is $___________.

I hope after reading this email, you will be inspired to donate to my campaign.

While research is vital, the reality for many children is they are facing cancer NOW. That’s why I’m supporting CCA; their Joy-based programs focus on creating Joy in the moment – with friendship, music, and nature – to enhance the emotional well-being of pediatric patients battling cancer and other serious illnesses. Because sick kids need more than medicine.

This year, CCA is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its unique Chemo Pal Mentor Program which matches a caring, trusted, adult friend to accompany

children to their hospital treatments, turning an otherwise unpleasant experience into a play session they look forward to.

This very thoughtful match process has resulted in friendships like Moxie and Ashley. These friendships often extend beyond the hospital setting, making an incredible impact on the lives of the child, their family and mentor alike.

Please join me in supporting CCA today with a tax-deductible donation of [$____], or an amount of your choice. Donate Now. [LINK]

Tag CCA in your social posts:Twitter: @CCAJoyRxFacebook: @ChildrensCancerAssociationInstagram: @CCAJoyRx#MoreThanMedicine

Best Practices for Social Media:

Post often. On average it takes someone seeing your post/ask seven times before they take action.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Posts with images see a significant improvement in clicks, retweets, and conversions.

Go where your audience is. We suggested three social platforms above, but there are a multitude out there. You know your friends and family best – post where you feel you will make the greatest impact.

Don’t Forget a Call to Action! What do you want people to do after seeing your post? It may seem obvious that you want them to donate to

your fundraising page but tell them in no uncertain terms. If you don’t ask, you won’t receive.

Share CCA’s posts, but also post your own. People are more likely to trust recommendations made by friends and family. There’s a reason you’re involved in our cause – you are welcome to use our suggested posts but personalizing your message will give people insight into why THEY should care too.
