From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, In our Gospel reading this weekend, Jesus once again tells his listeners a parable. The parable is about getting invited to a wedding banquet. When arriving at the wedding you have to decide where to sit at the table. Jesus tells us that if you choose to sit at a place of distinction or honor you run the risk of being humiliated, that is, if a person of more distinguished honor is also invited and arrives later. “The host who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place.” Jesus’ advice is, “when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position,’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table.” Jesus reminds us, his disciples, that we are to be humble. “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus gives us the example of humility: He humbled himself by lowering himself and became like us in all things but sin. He also humbled himself in the Garden of Gethsemane when he asked the Father to take away the suffering of his Passion but then humbled himself in obedience and said, “Thy will be done.” Each Sunday we are invited to the Eucharistic Banquet and fed with a meal that we could never repay. The Lord Jesus Christ humbles himself by always being present and giving himself to us in the Blessed Sacrament in the form of Bread and Wine. Let us keep our souls right before God through the Sacrament of Reconciliation where we humble ourselves by confessing our sins and faults. Then one day we will feast at the banquet in Heaven! Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Administrator

Parish Life:

This past Sunday our new, high school age, youth group, Catholic Teens, met for their sixth meeting, which takes place every Sunday evening. I want to especially thank Tom Costello who agreed to help start the youth group while he was here on break for the summer. Tom will be returning shortly to continue with his ministry in the Culture Project in California. Please keep Tom and our youth group in your prayers. The youth group will continue to meet every Sunday evening in the parish. I am sure that in the near future you will be hearing and seeing the good works of the Catholic Teens.

Two weeks ago I noted in our bulletin that we were in the process of purchasing some required items so that I could celebrate Mass at the Bentley here in Branchville on the first Thursday of the month. Several people have generously contributed towards this ministry that helps the elders of our community...thank you for your help and thoughtfulness.

A special thanks to our parishioners for your most generous offering two weeks ago on Mission Sunday to help Father Paul Kala and the missionary effort of the Church. The offering for the Missions was $3,130. The food pantry that began this past November continues to supply food for the needy of our neighborhood. Each week we continue to add an another family or individual to our list of people in need of assistance. I want to especially thank Claudia Klecha who manages of our parish food pantry and has volunteered many hours of her time stocking shelves and distributing food. I also want to thank our parishioners who are so thoughtful and mindful of those who are in need through their continuous donations of groceries. Please consider helping out our food pantry by donating food.

This past week we mailed out a notice pertaining to our annual Parish Picnic. The Picnic will take place on Sunday, September 18th after the 11:00 am Mass. We have again rented several inflatable rides and are planning to have a lot of fun games and food for the day. Please make an effort to come to the picnic and feel free to invite a neighbor especially if they no longer participate in the life of the Church. This is a great opportunity to evangelize and let them witness the joy of parish life.

Kiosk Media Center (at the rear of the Church)

One of the audio CDs in our Lighthouse Catholic Media kiosk is “Swimming Upstream—Going Against the Current Culture” by Stephen Ray. In this empowering talk, Steve Ray shares what it

means to be a Christian in today's world. By examining the lives and martyrdoms of the early Christians and understanding how they transformed the pagan Greco-Roman culture, Steve gives us a blueprint for the New Evangelization. Learn from early Christians how to swim upstream against the current culture and become a witness for Christ. Stephen is author of books such as "Crossing the Tiber (Evangelical Protestants Discover the Historical Church)" and his on-site videos of the holy land showing salvation history from Abraham to

Augustine, "Footprints of God". He is also a frequent visitor to EWTN, Relevant Radio and Catholic Answers. Check out his blog at CatholicConvert.com. Each CD is only $3.

Parish Outreach

“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Mt 25:40)

In November of last year our parish opened a food pantry. It has been very successful due to the continuous support of numerous parishioners. Since the opening of the food pantry we have helped over 50 families in the neighborhood. Because of the need in our area we are starting a new ministry of parish outreach. The ministry will consist of a prayer group that will meet monthly and focus on visiting the needy in their homes. If you would like to be part of this ministry or need more information please contact Jenn at 973-948-3185.

Healing Mass

The Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 15th at 7:30 pm in the Church. The healing service will

take place immediately after Mass; Father Ed will be celebrating the Mass. Healing has always been a part of the Church. Jesus healed the blind man, the deaf man, and the leper. We find in Sacred Scripture physical healings, healing of relationships, psychological healing, financial healing, and spiritual healing. Come with expectant faith and join us, and experience the Lord’s healing power.
