Dear Parents and Care Givers MULTICULTURAL CELEBRATION On Wednesday 21 November Rooms 16, 18 and 19 held a Multicultural Celebration. It was fantastic to see the number of families join in the lunch time celebration and particularly pleasing to see the pridein both adults and children alike, as they got to share a little bit of their home culture with their peers and teachers. The smorgasbord of food was something to behold, with dishes from most of the 48 different cultures represented at our school on offer it is little wonder most children (and their teachers) rolled back into class for the afternoon! A special thank you to Mrs Marcellus for her co-ordination of this wonderful event and the families who provided the delightful food and great company. ADVANCE NOTICE - CELEBRATING GOSNELLS ASSEMBLY Our Celebrating Gosnells Assembly will be held on the morning of Thursday 13 December. The day will commence with an awards assembly at 8:45am followed by a family picnic in the grounds of the school. After our picnic, we will re-assemble in the UCA for our Gosnells Does Christmasperformance to celebrate the end of another fantastic year at our school. After the Gosnells Does Christmas performance, students will return to class on the normal school timetable for the remainder of the day. SCHOOL REPORTS That time of year is fast approaching, where the school provides formal, electronic reports to all students from K - Year 6. From Tuesday 11 December, parents/caregivers will be provided access to their childrens reports electronically. Please ensure the school has an up-to-date email contact for this to occur seamlessly. Hard copies of reports will not be sent home with children without a written request from the parent/caregiver. I ask all parents to take the time to read and understand their childs report as it contains valuable information about their achievement and progress in 2018. Vital explanatory notes to assist you in making sense of your childs report will be provided in an accompanying letter from me. As our expectation of students at each year of schooling is increased under the West Australian Curriculum, it is possible that your childs gradesmay appear to have declined in comparison to previous years. This does not necessarily mean they have not progressed; rather it is most likely that our expectations of them have lifted. It is important at this stage to clarify that Aand Bgrades are only issued when a student is consistently performing at a level that exceeds the expected standard for their year level. These grades are awarded far less than when you and I went to school. The information contained in this report is a valid and reliable summary of your childs achievement, attitude, behaviour and effort throughout 2018. I would strongly recommend that if you are concerned about any aspect of your childs report that you make an appointment to discuss your concerns with the classroom teacher. If you are still concerned after this, please feel free to discuss these concerns with me. Information on how your child performed in the subjects studied compared to that of other children at Gosnells Primary School is available from the office upon request. The School Position Report shows you the number of students in each of the achievement levels at our school and will be included in the report package when requested before Wednesday 5 December.
