Conference Chair’s MessageWhat’s Inside
It is a very special privilege to welcome you at the 7th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (7ACEE) being held in Bangkok, Thailand. Since its conception in 2004, the conference is providing an excellent forum to bring together researchers, engineers, professionals, and academics working in various broad fields of earthquake engineering including seismic hazard and risk assessment, seismic analysis and design of structures, disaster mitigation and preparedness, and other relevant areas. The objective of these events is to provide an opportunity to promote and exchange new ideas and experiences among participants which should result in useful collaborations in the areas of mutual interests.
The objective of 7ACEE 2018 is also the same. Under a broad theme of “Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures,” the event is ready to welcome the attendees coming from all parts of the world to discuss some of the key issues related to earthquake hazard and risk reduction. In this event, by sharing the ideas and expertise, engineers and researchers will try to pave the way towards the collaborative development of innovative solutions to cope with various real-world challenges related to the construction of safer cities and infrastructures.
As conference chairperson, I am thankful to the members of International Scientific Committee for their wise advice and brilliant suggestions on organizing the technical sessions in this conference. I am also obliged to the members of Organizing Committee who have all worked extremely hard for the management and logistic arrangements for various conference programs and social activities. I would also like to extend my thanks to all our sponsors who have supported us in this event.
I hope that various sessions in 7ACEE will be very fruitful in terms of knowledge and experience for all of us dedicated to earthquake engineering and other relevant fields. I wish you a very pleasant stay and experience in Bangkok.

About ACEE
Introduction
History
Urbanization is one of the major global challenges of this era. The cities and infrastructure of future will need to be denser and resilient to natural hazards. An efficient way to accommodate rapidly growing urban population is to develop vertical cities with tall buildings, bridges, and expressways having innovative structural systems. This requires great expertise, skills and computational capabilities. To address the issues related to safety of cities and infrastructure, the 7th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (7ACEE2018) is jointly organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) in collaboration with the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ASEP) and supported by Mahidol University, European Union (EU), Aalto University, Finland, Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI), USA, Eight-Japan Engineering Consultants Inc.(EJEC), GPS Lands and Dextra. The Conference is held at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, Thailand on 22-24 November 2018.
The Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (ACEE) was initiated by the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines Inc. (ASEP) in 2004, to provide a forum for the academics, researchers and the professionals involved in various aspects of earthquake engineering. The first two conferences were held in the Philippines, and were attended by hundreds of participants, mostly from the home country. The third ACEE was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 1-3 December 2010, and was co-organized by four organizations, the Asian institute of Technology (AIT), the Center for Urban Earthquake Engineering (CUEE) in Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) and the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea (EESK). The fourth ACEE, was jointly held with the Ninth International Conference on Urban Earthquake Engineering (9CUEE), called the 9CUEE & 4ACEE Joint Conference, and was organized by the Center for Urban Earthquake Engineering (CUEE) at Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT). The fifth ACEE was held at Howard International House in Taipei, Taiwan from 16-18 October 2014. This conference was jointly organized by the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) and the National Taiwan University (NTU). The 6th ACEE returned to the Philippines and was held in Cebu City on the occasion of the 55th Anniversary of ASEP and in commemoration of the 3rd Anniversary of the 2013 earthquake.
7ACEE 2018This year, ACEE is being held again in Bangkok with the theme Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures to focus on the latest developments in earthquake engineering and the key role of structural engineering and engineers in future proofing our built environment. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, parallel sessions, presentations from invited speakers, exhibition from sponsors, and conference dinner.

2018
About the ConferenceSince its conception in 2004, the Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (ACEE) is providing an excellent forum to bring together researchers, engineers, professionals, and academics working in various broad fields of earthquake engineering including seismic hazard and risk assessment, seismic analysis and design of structures, disaster mitigation and preparedness, and other relevant areas. The objective of these events is to provide an opportunity to promote and exchange new ideas and experiences among participants which should result in useful collaborations in the areas of mutual interests.
The objective of 7ACEE 2018 is also the same. Under a broad theme of “Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures,” the event is ready to welcome the attendees coming from all parts the world to discuss some of the key issues related to earthquake hazard and risk reduction. In this event, by sharing the ideas and expertise, engineers and researchers will try to pave the way towards the collaborative development of innovative solutions to cope with various real-world challenges related to the construction of safer cities and infrastructures.
