1989 brought a turn in the world, in the region andin Hungary. Under the new circumstances theinternational relations changed and the societies
transformed. The 20th anniversary gives a chancefor evaluation and drawing up the balance. How dohistory and social sciences see the recent pastand the present? Our aim with this program is to give a scientific andat the same time critical reading of the last twodecades of the country and the region, which is –as we believe – essential to be able to think about
the future with responsibility and to develop aneffectual national vision.
