PRAYER FOR THOSE IN THE SERVICE Watch over our

sons & daughters in the service of our country.

Protect them from the physical and moral dangers of military life.

Keep them close to you, and help them live the commandments . . . Give them courage to serve their country

with honor and dignity. Strengthen them when they face hardship.

Above all Lord, grant that when their service is finished

they may return to us sound in mind, body and soul.

Amen

Employer Matching Gift Program Many companies offer matching gift programs for charitable organizations that are online and easy to do. Since St. Luke Parish is a tax-exempt organiza-tion under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code that means that some companies might match your weekly stewardship contributions to our parish. We encourage you to check on your employer’s matching gift program and, as usual, thank you for your generous stewardship of our parish.

Prayer for Healing Trained healing ministers are available each Sunday in the rear of the church from 12:30 - 1:30 pm to pray with you for your physical, spiritual, or emotional con-cerns. All prayers are confidential. If you have any questions, please call Howard or Shirley Jones at 206-542-3230.

Can We Please Come Home We have been here such a long time waiting for our owners to come and take us home. We were used to bring food to a funeral and have been forgotten in a strange kitchen. As you can imagine there are a lot of us here. We would really like to come home! They said that they really appreciated your generosity but they are running out of room to store all of us. If you don’t come and get us soon, they are going to take us to a place called St. Francis House or St. Vincent de Paul. You can pick us up in the parish office. Please come and get us so we can go home.

“Trust in divine providence is the firm, lively faith that God can and will help us. It is obvious that he can help us, since he is all-powerful. It is certain that he will help us, because he promised it in many passag-es of Sacred Scripture and keeps all his promises faithfully.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

Justice & Outreach News

St. Luke Immigrant & Refugee Initiative Kick-off Wed., 9/13/17, 6:30-8 pm,

in Auditorium On Wed. evening, 9/13, Jim Thomas, Associate Director for Life and Justice at the Washington State Catholic Conference, will help us launch this new initiative with a presentation on the following: Immigrants in Sacred Scripture Love of neighbor Life and dignity of the human person Consistent ethic of life Immigration and the Catechism Recent Papal statements on immigrants Dispelling the myths about undocumented immi-grants Why the current system is broken U.S. bishops’ call for comprehensive immigration reform Current legislation What you can do

St. Luke is responding to the 2/2/17 pastoral letter from the Seattle Archdiocese in support of immi-grants and refugees. The letter urged us to heed Pope Francis’ call to live Christian charity, the very basis of Catholic Social Teaching, by protecting and defending the dignity of every human person, especially the poor and the most vulnerable.

Please save the date so that we can begin to heed this call.
