The Convention being held in the garden city Bangalore, the capital of
Karnataka State, is one of Indias most charming cities. Founded in 1537
by a local Chieftain Kempe Gowda, Bangalore has changed
dramatically over the years. His son Kempe Gowda II built the famous
towers at the four corners of the old city. In 1638, Shahaji Bhonsle, the
father of Shivaji captured the city. In 1687 Aurangzebs army captured
the city and sold it to the Wodeyars for a paltry sum of 3 lakhs. In 1759, he
built the famous Lal Bagh, one of Bangalores most beautifully laid out
gardens. There are numerous not-to-be-missed sights in Bangalore like
the magnificent Vidhana Soudha, sprawling Cubbon Park, Colourful
Lalbagh etc. Adjoining it are the government museum and the industrial
and technological museum. Today, it is Indias 5th largest city, themomentum of its industrial, commercial and IT growth is unequalled in the
country.
It is a city for all seasons. Come any time of the year Bangalore is
beautiful. The uniqueness of Bangalore can be attributed to the open
mind progressive nature of its citizens. The weather is the citys best
feature, with pleasant summers and bearable winters. Bangalore has a
moderate climate throughout the year due to its elevation. It is also
blessed with a large number of lakes and parks within the city. The venue
will be the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) Karnataka.
Tropical cloths are required throughout the year. Light woolens can be
worn during winter season.
LocationIndia is endowed with large mineral resources, especially iron ore, bauxite,
coal, base metals, noble metals and diamonds. However, most of these
resources are either underexplored or under exploited or both, for a
variety of reasons. For achieving a high manufacturing growth rate as
envisaged in the New Manufacturing Policy, the mining sector has to
grow faster, and has to make higher contribution to GDP. To achieve
these ambitious objectives, entire value chain of the mineral sector
starting from reconnaissance, exploration, mining and beneficiation to the
value addition downstream sectors have to be streamlined so as to
attract investments from both domestic as well as international investors,
particularly in strategic and deep seated minerals requiring state-of-the-
art technologies and risk capital. Regulatory mechanism has to improve
to facilitate such investments and accelerated implementation. All these
developments need to happen in a Sustainable Development Framework
so as to ensure inclusive growth.
In order to attract investment and technology FIMI is organizing a three-
days Convention on Mining, Exploration Convention & Trade Show from
30 August - 1 September, 2012 at Bangalore International Exhibition
Centre (BIEC), Bangalore with the support of PDAC. The Ministry of Mines
has sponsored the Convention. The wil l provide a unique
opportunity for various stakeholders involved in the mining value chain
policy makers, exploration agencies, mining companies, regulatory
agencies, technologists, economists, investors including people from
abroad for intense deliberations and discussions.
