Fairfield (IOWA) – Meet. Greet. Connect. Repeat. That’s the recipe the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is calling on for the return of its Speed Networking series at noon on Tuesday, April 17 at the Fairfield Golf and Country Club. “It really is like speed dating without the awkward silences,” said Tracy Vance, Chamber executive director. “Speed Networking participants are placed across the table from each other, given a few ground rules, and then encouraged to make the most out of an allotted time before we ring the bell and do it all over again.” Speed Networking is designed to encourage the development of business relationships out-side the traditional boundaries of offices and business lunches and digital platforms like social media, “Doing business is all about cre-ating relationships but sometimes we get dis-tracted with the day to day activities and
responsibilities and end up putting those rela-tionships on the back burner.” he said. “This program makes it comfortable to develop future business relationships really fast.” Fast is right. Participants are given four minutes to conduct an information-sharing conversation before the group is rotated around the table, generating a new Networking partner and, presumably, a new connection. “The strength of the series,” said Terry Baker, Chamber Board member and Speed Networking organizer, “is its ability to build face-to-face business relationships in spite of a business climate that is increasingly domi-nated by digital- and Internet-based interac-tions.” “Speed Networking, I think, has exposed something fundamental- that for all the oppor-tunities we’re afforded in an Internet 2.0 world, people still crave personal interac-
tions,” Baker said. “And sometimes it takes participating in a networking event like this for people to recognize that about themselves. It’s powerful.” The 90-minute program, which promises lunch and at least a dozen formal new busi-
ness contacts, begins promptly at noon, with doors open at 11:45. All area businesses are invited to attend. Cost is $30 general admis-sion and $20 for Chamber members. The Fairfield Golf and Country Club will be serv-ing a quick lunch at noon, followed by the networking session. For questions or to reserve your spot, contact the Chamber at 641-472-2111, [email protected] or visit FairfieldIowa.com. The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advocacy of its more than 375 member part-ners.
