Columbia SC 29202 or also hand deliver a completed official entry form

Monday - Friday during regular office hours between 7:30 a.m. and

4:00 p.m. to Dowling Administration Building, 1200 Rosewood Drive,

Columbia SC 29201. Mailed entry forms received after closing date will

not be accepted.

4. Late Entry registration must be accompanied by the $25 Late Fee.

5. Incomplete entry forms will not be processed.

LIMITATIONS

1. An Exhibitor may register only one (1) article per class.

2. Entering multiple articles in the same class

will result in disqualification of all articles.

3. No entry having previously won a sweepstakes at the Fair may be

entered.

4. Entries will be displayed at the discretion of Fair

Management.

5. Any registered entry entered erroneously, may be transferred to

the proper class prior to judging only at the discretion of the

Department superintendent. If such classes have

been judged, they shall not be judged again.

6. Fair Management reserves the right to disqualify any entry found

to be unsuitable for public exhibition.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Entries must be the sole work of the exhibitor, except as listed for

Group classes, and completed within the last three (3) years.

2. All Baked Goods and Special Baking contest entries must be

prepared and intended for human consumption.

3. All framed entries must have wire hangers and meet size

requirements.

JUDGES DECISION FINAL

1. The judges have sole discretion in deciding which entries receive

ribbons based on their assessment of the quality of craftsmanship

displayed by the exhibitor.

2. This may result in the awarding of several first or second place

ribbons in a class or the awarding of NO first or second place

ribbons in a class.

3. Decisions of the judges are final.

UNCLAIMED ENTRIES

1. Neither the South Carolina State Fair nor the Home and Craft

Department staff will be responsible for any entry not claimed by

the end of the second release date.

2. Unclaimed entries become the property of the SC State Fair and

will be donated to charity.

SPECIAL AWARDS

ADLUH® Awards – Adluh®, South Carolina’s State Flour, grown by South Carolina Farmers, processed by South Carolina Millers in Columbia and Greenwood, and used by almost all last year’s South Carolina State Fair Sweepstakes and Blue-Ribbon winners in the Foods Division.

1. Lakeside Mills Inc. will match, per person, all baking class premiums, not to exceed $15 per person, in all baking classes by the 2020 South Carolina State Fair for winning entries using Adluh® Flour. For each premium recipe submitted, a minimum of two (2) cups Adluh® Flour is required.

2. Each recipe must be printed or typed on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper with the contestant’s name, address, and phone number.

3. Each recipe must be submitted within thirty (30) days after judging with an original UPC label and bottom panel of bag from an Adluh® Flour bag.

4. One (1) UPC label and bag bottom per recipe. (Photocopies not accepted).

5. You must include your check stub from the state fair premium indicating your winning entry.

6. Entries received beyond thirty (30) days of judging and/or without the proper number of original UPC codes and bag bottoms will not be accepted.

7. Upon submission, all recipes will become the property of Lakeside Mills, Inc.

8. Lakeside Mills reserves the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish and use any or all of them including for publicity, promotion or advertising.

PROFESSIONAL VS AMATEUR DEFINED

• A Professional Exhibitor is defined as anyone who has earned

more than $1,000 during a calendar year either by selling their

items, teaching the subject, doing extended exhibiting, or

involving themselves in other professionally related activities in a

capacity that would give the entrant unfair advantage over a

hobbyist.

• Unless otherwise designated as a Professional section, all other

sections are Amateur.

CANNING RULES & REGULATIONS

1. The Home and Craft Department General Rules and Regulations

shall apply.

2. Canned entries must be canned in this calendar year.

3. No canned entries should be re-entered in the Fair.

4. Standard unlabeled canning jars are mandatory.

5. Fruit and vegetable entries must be canned in pint jars.

6. Jam, Jelly, Catsup, Relish and Sauce entries must be canned in

½ pint jars.

7. Canning jars must have jar rings and be sealed

Jam, Jelly, Preserves and Marmalade entries must be heat

sealed (no paraffin).

8. Canned entries are judged on appearance only.

9. It is not customary to open canned entries.

10. Bread and Cakes in jars will not be accepted.

• Headspace is the unfilled space above the food in a jar and below

its lid.

• USDA recommends headspace in specific foods as follows:

o Jams and Jellies - ¼ inch

o Low Acid Foods processed in pressure canner - 1 inch

to 1 ½ inches

FABRICS & THREADS - RULES & REGULATIONS

1. The Home and Craft Department General Rules and Regulations

shall apply.

2. Quality of workmanship is the first consideration in judging.

3. All stitching should be neat with no puckering.

4. Both sides of the article are judged; however, framed items will

not be removed from their frames.

5. Only clean, properly pressed articles will be judged and displayed.

6. Name must be securely covered by sewn material or heavy tape.

7. Quilts must be made entirely by exhibitor, with exception of group

classes, and completed within the last three years.

8. Quilts must be clean and in good condition.

9. The quilt measurements in some classes refer to the perimeter of

the quilt.

10. Perimeter refers to the measurement around an object.

11. Perimeter is obtained by measuring the length of each side of an

object and then adding all the lengths together.

12. Articles must be completed and pictures ready to hang.

13. Picture wire and screw eyes must be used since saw tooth

hangers will not work on peg board.

14. Wall Hanging Quilts – a 4-inch sewn-on sleeve must be attached

for hanging.

QUILT CLASSES - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• Quilt entry classes reflect the class standards used by The

Quilters of South Carolina and other quilting organizations.

• All quilting will be entered by technique and size.

• The quilt size refers to the perimeter of the quilt (the

measurement around the quilt). Measuring the length of all sides

and then adding all the lengths together determine the perimeter.

Professional versus Amateur Defined:

• A Professional Exhibitor is defined as anyone who has earned

more than $1,000 during the calendar year either by selling their

items, teaching the subject, doing extended exhibiting, or

involving themselves in other professional related activities in a

capacity that would give the entrant unfair advantage over a

hobbyist.

Unless otherwise designated as a Professional section, all

classes should be entered by Amateurs.

unsuitable for exhibition.

3. Should a specific number of items be required for an individual exhibit,

4. Biscuits, Breads, Candy and Cookies will be transferred at time of delivery

to a uniform plate provided by the Home & Craft staff for display.

5. Decorated cakes must not be over 32"; in height, 32"; in width (including

2. Limited to first twenty (20) persons to register. 3. Pumpkins, approximately the size of a basketball, will be furnished by the

SC State Fair. 4. Contestant will decorate their pumpkin on site between 2:00 pm and 4:00

pm. 5. Judging will be at 4:00 pm. 6. Contestant will furnish all supplies to decorate their pumpkin. Supplies

such as paint, markers, crayons, fabric, ribbons, etc. can be used. You can pin or glue objects, papers or materials to the pumpkins.

7. Must be original work. 8. Do not carve or hollow out pumpkins. 9. Designs can be etched into surface. 10. Dress your pumpkin or draw designs. 11. The decisions of the judges will be final. 12. Pumpkins will be displayed in Moore Building during fair. 13. Pumpkins may be claimed on Monday, Oct. 25 and Tuesday, Oct. 26 from

8:00 am - 6:00 pm. 14. Pumpkins will be discarded if decay is evident.
