“Home” will take a look at the new ways that people are defining the concept of ‘home,’ as reflected in the work of O’Neill Rose Architects, from multiple generations living in a single house, to aging in place, to live-work environments.

2:15 – 3:00 PMThomas F. Robinson, AIA, Founding Principle, Lever Architecture, Portland, OR “Looking Ahead: The Future of Mass Timber in the US”

What’s next for mass timber? This presentation highlights the United States’ legacy of timber construction and recent wood innovations, with a focus on the issues that will shape the next decade of mass timber design. Specific themes to be addressed include sustainable wood sourcing and forest management practices, timber’s eco-nomic benefit to rural communities, hybrid timber structures, and more integrated approaches to design and fabrication.

present. These are environments where the relationship of elements is apparent and intertwined. These are the environments that contain a distinct character and coherence yet are open to change and evolution. These are the environments that appear both timeless and vital. Ultimately, these are the environments that resonate in the mind, offering intelligibility to the world around us. Throughout our work, we seek to discover and evoke a similar sense of clarity, producing spaces for more vivid experiences. This lecture explores themes and techniques used to achieve this goal of clarity in four projects.

A graduate of the University of Oregon, Ben Waechter is

recognized as one of the top emerging architects in the United States.
