“The King and His Court”

Leap year brought a fun twist to the WOTM Valentine’s Dance this year. Instead of queen candidates, we had King Cupid contenders – Jim Hall, Ken Larkin, Bobby Sutton. Congrats to Ken who was crowned King Cupid! Jim and Bobby were also kings and combined they helped in raising over $500.00 for Moose Charities and activities/sports events at Mooseheart. Thanks to our cupids for being great “sports” and to all who supported and worked hard to make it a great success!

Fraternally,

Governor’s Message

My Franconia Family,

My brothers and sisters, the end of the moose year is upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during my two-year tenure as Governor. We have moved forward over the last two years as our lodge has continued to grow and prosper. Our lodge has been successful because of your support and our hard working volunteers. Volunteers are the core of our success. We need everyone to get involved and commit to being a part of something great. Our membership is key! Please make every attempt to recruit new members and teach them the way of the Moose. It is very important that we do not forget why we are all part of this fraternity. The children at Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven depend on all of us to fulfill our obligations as we acknowledged when we all became members. The “nine o’clock ceremony” is a very important ritual that takes place whenever there is a Moose gathering. The endowment fund is collected after each prayer. The monies collected go directly to Moose Charities. This is the backbone and purpose of our organization. In closing, it has been my pleasure to be your governor for the last two years. Please extend your support to our next governor and the board of officers.

Fraternally, Larry Gibeault Governor

Administrator’s Corner

MEMBERSHIP!!! As always membership is at the top of my list of priorities and we need everyone’s help. We need a big push between now and April 30, 2020. We need to introduce as many people as possible to our fraternity and enroll them. Remember, membership is what drives us. Lodge elections are coming on 14 April. The nominating committee has been formed and a signup sheet is in the Social Quarters on the main bulletin board for anyone desiring to run for lodge office. We need fresh ideas and different members to become more active and involved. After the election we will need even more people to serve as committee chairs and committee members, so give some thought to how you can best serve your lodge. . Fraternally, Ben Kern Administrator

Senior Regent Message

Many people think that being on a team is just a group of people that work with each other and share a common interest. I know that it’s a whole lot more than that. I believe that there is something so eye opening about being a part of a team that everyone should experience at some point in their life. Why, because being on our team will be one of the most rewarding times of your life. It will open your eyes to seeing people in a different light and expose you to new experiences that can benefit you in other areas of your world. Most often teammates become closer to one another, turning them into more of a family than just people you are on a team with. They end up knowing the weirdest and craziest things about you and care about you endlessly. Is that not what a family is? Some of the positions we will be filling on the WOTM Board are Senior Regent (Reign in the Creative People Officer), Junior Regent (Assistant Creative Control Officer), Recorder (Keeper of all things Important Officer) and the five Chairmen. Mooseheart/Moosehaven Chairman (Caring Chairman), Community Services Chairman (Love to be out and about Chairman), Sports and Activities Chairman (Active Go Getter Chairman), Membership Retention Chairman (Lover of Meeting New People Chairman) and the Higher Degrees Chairman (Ms./Mrs. Love to host an Event Chairman). While I have nicknamed these roles, let me assure you that they are all positions that are fun, interesting and greatly supported. Yes, you can do any one of them and we will make it fun. There are a few things that I can assure you will happen if you become an active member of WOTM Chapter 1042 and they are as follows. You will make a mistake, as will all the others at some point. I chose to make my mistake at the very first meeting in May 2019. Guess what I lived with, hopefully everyone has forgotten about it. You will look at your team members differently. I came into my position thinking that I knew the people I would be teaming up with. I learned that those same people I thought I knew, had areas of interest, talents and attributes that I found rewarding. You will laugh. Any time you get a group of women together, toss in some late nights and maybe a beverage or two you end up with a laugh and/or a story. The old saying is “no good story ever begins with I was having a glass of water.” In the end you will look back and be thankful for each moment you shared with your teammates and will recall fondly some of the moments you experienced together. In saying goodbye to winter and hello to spring I would encourage you to say goodbye to all the reasons you have for not joining the Chapter 1042 team/meetings and hello to new beginnings, new friendships and new accomplishments. I will leave you with this quote from Anne Bradstreet. “If we had not winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” Please come share your prosperity with our team.

Sheila Barnes, Senior Regent

Hello All, Can you see it? Spring is so close; I can see it. I always enjoy this time of the year when we look past Old Man Winter and look forward to the “awakening.” Granted this year the celebration may not be as rewarding since winter, for the most part, was a few cold and windy days. For those of you who missed the snow, I suggest you take three scoops of vanilla ice cream, stack it like a snowman and finish it off with a spoon. At least you get your snowman fix for the year. And that is a snowman that most people can relate to. Spring means so much is starting to happen! Days are staying light longer, the air is warmer, flowers are blooming, and there is so much room for more outdoor activities. In the Women of the Moose world it brings the time to nominate, elect and install new officers and chairmen. What an amazing time and opportunity for each of us. If you were to make a bucket list of spring activities, it may look something like this. Have a picnic on a blanket with a good friend. Watch the sunrise with a special friend. Have a garden tea party with close friends. Give a dear friend a vase of fresh cut flowers. Visit a flea market with a group of friends. I think you are seeing the connection here, Spring equals friends; friends equal like-minded people and like-minded people equals Serving on the Women of the Moose Board, being a WOTM Committee Chairman or just attending meetings puts you on a team. This team, like most, is a group of women working together to accomplish something. Our something is meeting the goals and responsibilities of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. I won’t lie to you, meeting these goals and responsibilities takes work, compromise, commitment and most importantly time. Notice I did not say that it takes a special skill, a specific talent or even the need to have previously been on a team. That is the great thing about our team; there is always room for everyone. The goofy ones, the quiet ones, the smart ones, the determined ones, the creative ones, etc. I would like to encourage you to be on the Franconia Women of the Moose Chapter 1042 team and here is why. Moose Legion Committee Moose Legionnaires, I hope this newsletter finds everyone happy and healthy! We have gained an extra day this year. We are also getting ready to put Old Man Winter behind us and spring forward an extra hour. Perhaps by the time you read this newsletter, spring will officially be here. I would again like to encourage you to help us grow our membership. So won't you and/or a fellow member step up and join the Moose Legion? We are in the planning stages for a bus trip to a casino. Details will be finalized soon. Also in the works by some Moose Legion members is the revival of the Moose Riders. If you're interested, please contact any of us on the Moose Legion Committee and we will put you in touch with the right people. Along with the usual events of the past two months, there was also a Super Bowl party and Valentine dinner and dance. Both were a big success!! So many thanks to those volunteers who worked so hard to make it such a big success! Also it's the time of year to elect a new board of officers. If you or a fellow member would like to run for office, there is a sign up board in the social quarters. There are events coming up in March that include the St. Paddy's Dinner/Dance and a paint night. So check out the marquee at the lodge, and please make sure you have your phone number in the text tablet so you can receive daily notices about upcoming events. You can also check us out on Facebook along with weekly announcements on Wednesday night as a friendly reminder! The next Moose Legion meeting is on Friday March 20th at 7:00pm.
