“Child Prisoner” by Mako Nakagawa (Lakeshore Resident)
When Mako Takahashi was five years old, her family was swept up in the turmoil and
devastation of World War II. The FBI arrested Mako’s father and two months later Mako, her
mother, and three sisters were forced from their Seattle home and imprisoned in U.S.
concentration camps for people of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast. In her
memoir, Mako recalls with a child’s innocence stories from her four years in the concentration
camps along with the insights she gained as an adult looking back on this grave injustice. We
have 8 books to share with in the community.

· Limited mobility tour route: The garden is large, 20 acres and has some easy walking wheelchair and walker accessible areas. They have developed a limited mobility tour route that highlights these spots. It is a nice loop that goes through the historic part of the garden and stays extremely flat and has the best maintained packed gravel paths of the garden. This route starts from a locked gate that is not the main entrance gate. If you love Kobota Garden this is a trip you wont want to miss!

Enhance Fitness is a 1 hour evidence based group exercise program. It helps older adults
at all levels of fitness become more active and energized. This class may be done
standing or seated.
Strength and Balance
Date: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Time: 9:30AM (Activity Room)
Strength and Balance is a 30 minute group exercise program designed to increase your
Strength and Balance to help avoid falls and maintain independence. It is led by Life
Enrichment staff. This class is done half standing and half seated.
Chair Exercise
Date: Daily
Time: 9:00AM (TV Channel 370)
Turn your TV on to channel 370, The Lakeshore’s in-house TV Channel, for a 30
minute Chair Exercise workout. This workout can be done from the comfort of your own
apartment.
3rd Floor Exercise Room
This room is open to you at your convenience. We have a treadmill, elliptical, two NuStep
machines, a recumbent bike and free weights. If you have questions about any of the

The Lakeshore Walking Club
Each resident that would like to participate can check out a pedometer from
Life Enrichment. Each week we will track your steps on a Weekly Walking
