FSU VS. GEORGIA TECHFlorida State is 22-30 all-time against Georgia Tech, but have had a lot of success recently as the Noles have won 11 of the last 12 matches against the Yellow Jackets, including six sweeps, dating back to 2010.

FSU VS. CLEMSONThe Seminoles hold a 36-20 advantage in the all-time series against Clemson, including winning each of the last 12 matches since 2011.

STRAIGHT-SET STUNNER!The Seminoles made history on August 31 with their straight-set victory over No. 3 Minnesota (25-17, 26-24, 25-21). The win was the highest-ranked victory in program history and the first-ever win over a Top-5 opponent. The last time Florida State defeated a Top-10 team was on August 29, 2014 with a 3-1 win on the road at No. 7 Nebraska.

Junior Jasmyn Martin, who transferred from Minnesota during the offseason, carried the Noles offensively with 16 kills and two errors for a .500 hitting percentage on the afternoon. Senior Payton Caffrey recorded a double-double on 10 kills/15 digs with two service aces, while redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon came up a kill short of a double-double on nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman Emma Clothier hit at a .556 pace with six kills in the match, while redshirt freshman Lily Tessier had 21 assists.

IMPROVED ATTACKWith a team full of newcomers, as 10 of the Seminoles are either freshmen, transfers, or redshirted in 2018, it has been a process for the offense to come together and find a rhythm.

Beginning the year with just one match with a hitting percentage of over .300 in its first eight contests (.315 at TCU), Florida State has turned its offense around in recent weeks, finishing four of the last six matches with a hitting percentage of over .345 - Boston College (.390), Syracuse (.358), Virginia (.349) and at NC State (.346).

TARYN KNUTH VS. SYRACUSEJunior Taryn Knuth had a nearly perfect afternoon on October 20 against Syracuse as she posted a .600 hitting percentage with six kills and zero errors, while also adding 10 blocks in the three-set win over the Orange.

The 10 blocks is tied for seventh in the NCAA this season in a three set match, set a season high, and is tied for fourth-most in her career.

TOPPING RANKED TEAMSOne of the standards of the Florida State Volleyball program under head coach Chris Poole is that the Seminoles will play a difficult schedule and seek to play as many ranked teams as possible.

The Noles have been very successful in that regard, posting 28 wins over ranked opponents since Poole took the helm in 2008, including seven wins over Top 10 teams.

The 2019 Seminoles have already faced four ranked teams and two that were receiving votes, and will play two others that are ranked/receiving votes in the AVCA Poll - No. 3 Minnesota (W, 3-0), No. 4 Pitt (L, 1-3), No. 5 Wisconsin (L, 0-3), No. 11 Florida (L, 0-3), RV Colorado State (L, 0-3), RV TCU (W, 3-0), No. 4 Pitt and RV Louisville.

DECADE OF CONSISTENCYFSU is one of only 11 programs in the country to make the last 10 NCAA Tournaments (along with Colorado State, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Texas, USC and Washington). Eight of the 11 schools - Hawaii, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Texas, USC and Washington - have previously won NCAA National Championships, and combine to hold 29 of the 38 titles in the history of NCAA Volleyball.

TARYN KNUTH: BRICK WALLThe Seminoles are anchored in the middle by junior Taryn Knuth, who led the ACC and finished third in the NCAA in 2018 with 188 blocks, including 30 solo blocks. Knuth held a 26-block advantage over the next highest player in the conference - Amber Witherspoon, Syracuse (162).

Through the first 17 matches of the 2019 season, Knuth ranks second in the NCAA with 1.69 blocks per set, along with 98 total blocks, including seven on August 31 in a straight-set victory against No. 3 Minnesota.

In just her third season in the Garnet and Gold, Knuth is climbing up the all-time block record book and already has tallied 448 total blocks, which ranks eighth all-time in FSU history. Gabrielle Reece holds the program record of 747 blocks, set from 1987-90.

Her 381 assisted blocks are seventh-most in school history, while her current rate of 1.62 blocks per set is third-highest all-time.

SEMINOLE SWEEPSFlorida State has been dominant in many of its victories this season, posting a 3-0 sweep in nine of its 12 wins so far in 2019, including a win over No. 3 Minnesota.

The Noles recorded 10 sweeps through 29 matches a year ago, including five in ACC play.

COACH POOLE ALL-TIME WINS/RANKIn his 33rd season of coaching, and the 12th at the helm of Florida State, head coach Chris Poole is among the best in the NCAA.

Posting a current record of 836-315, Poole is fourth among active Division I coaches in all-time wins and is 12th among all coaches in NCAA history, while his current winning percentage of .726 ranks 17th amongst the nation's active coaches.

CLOTHIER'S CAREER DAYFreshman Emma Clothier was on another level on October 6 when the Seminoles hosted No. 4 Pitt, as the middle blocker posted a career-high 11 blocks against the Panthers.

The 11 blocks are tied for the fifth-most in the NCAA this season in a five-set match, and also tied with Stanford's Holly Campbell (11 vs. No. 12 BYU) for the most blocks against a ranked team in a match of any length this season.

She also ranked in a tie for 12th all-time in FSU history, tied for sixth during the rally-scoring era, and tied for fourth-most in school history in an ACC match.

20+ KILLS FOR CAFFREY/CHACON Leading the team with 216 kills and 4.08 kills per set, senior Payton Caffrey has been the primary attacker for the Seminoles this season.

Highlighted by a season-high 22 kills against FAU on September 6, Caffrey also eclipsed the 20-kill mark in ACC matches at Duke (20) and against Virginia (20).

She has recorded 20 or more kills eight times in her 46 matches as a Seminole, and also had 14 20-kill matches in her two years at West Virginia.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon set a career high on October 13 with 20 kills on the road at North Carolina.

DOUBLE-DOUBLESOutside hitters Payton Caffrey and Morgan Chacon have been producing on both ends of the court, recording a combined 10 double-doubles on the season, with five each from Caffrey and Chacon.

Each one also has at least one 15+/15+ match on the season, as Caffrey posted 20 kills and 15 digs in a four-set win against Virginia on October 4, while Chacon tallied 15 kills and 17 digs versus FAU on September 6 and recorded 20 kills and 17 digs on the road at North Carolina.

QUALITY LOSSESAlong with the strong schedule and quality wins that the program has had over the past few years, most all of the blemishes on the schedule have come against quality opponents.

Of the last 15 losses the program has had, dating back to the beginning of the 2018 season, 11 of them have come against teams ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 - No. 4 Minnesota (0-3), No. 4 Pitt (1-3), No. 5 Wisconsin (0-3), No. 8 Pitt (1-3), No. 9 Wisconsin (1-3), No. 10 Pitt (1-3), No. 11 Florida (1-3), No. 11 Florida (0-3), No. 16 Florida (0-3), No. 25 Colorado State (2-3) and RV Colorado State (0-3).

In the other four losses, Cincinnati (2-3) finished with an RPI of 24, while another loss was to rival Miami (2-3), and the final two lossed were on the road at Auburn (1-3) and North Carolina.

BLOCKS AGAINST PITTThe Seminole defense was on display against No. 4 Pitt on October 6 as Florida State recorded 18 blocks in a four-set loss to the Panthers.

The total ranks 26th in the nation, and third in the ACC, in a four-set match, and is seventh in the conference in a match of any length.

Emma Clothier (11), Jasmyn Martin (7) and Lily Tessier (5) each recorded career highs in blocks against Pitt, while Taryn Knuth and Payton Caffrey added six and four blocks, respectively.

THIRD SET AGAINST PITTDespite the heartbreak of losing the second set against Pitt (26-24) after having three set points, the Seminoles came out and played some of their best volleyball in the third set against the Panthers.

Tallying six blocks in the entire set, they held Pitt to just 14 points, which was by far the fewest points scored in a set this season by the Panthers, as the previous low was 21 against both Pepperdine and Penn State.

It also marked just the ninth set that Pitt had lost in 2019, through 16 matches.

BLOCK PARTY!Florida State continually puts pressure on the opposing offenses with its impressive blocking ability, as the Noles are third in the nation with 3.03 blocks/set. Five different Seminoles are averaging over 0.75 blocks/set - Taryn Knuth (1.69), Emma Clothier (1.09), Deja Williams (1.07), Jasmyn Martin (0.85) and Marissa Stockman (0.78).

Overall, the Noles have recorded double-figure blocks in 10 of their 17 matches on the season - No. 4 Pitt (18), St. Johns (15), North Carolina (15), FAU (14), Syracuse (13), Stony Brook (12.5), Duke (10), Wake Forest (10), NC State (10) and No. 3 Minnesota (10).

Of that list, only the matches against Pitt (4), Duke (4), UNC (5) and FAU (5) were more than three sets.

STRONGER AS THE MATCH WENT ONThe Seminoles continued to grow and make adjustments defensively throughout each of their two matches on opening weekend, as their opponents’ hitting percentage continually decreased from the first to the third set.

No. 5 Wisconsin took the first set (25-15) after hitting at a .308 pace, but narrowly took sets two and three (25-22, and 25--23) as FSU limited the Badgers to a .242 and .196 hitting percentage, respectively. Against No. 3 Minnesota, the Gophers struggled at the net in the opening set as they posted a .206 mark, which only fell to .178 and .167 in sets two and three, as the Seminoles earned the straight-set victory over Minnesota (25-17, 26-24, 25-21).

ACE IN THE HOLE! The Seminoles have improved on the serve this season, as FSU has already recorded 65 aces, for a pace of 1.12 per set. Last season, Florida State only had 108 aces over 29 matches, with a rate of 0.99 per set. Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon and redshirt sophomore Adrian Ell lead the team with 13 aces, while senior Payton Caffrey (11) and sophomore Taylor Roberts (10) also have double-digit aces.

BEACH/INDOOR DOUBLE DUTYSenior Payton Caffrey and redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon have been honing their skills all year long as the duo were also part of the 2019 FSU Beach Volleyball roster, which earned the CCSA Championship and finished ranked No. 4 in the nation.

Payton led the team with 31 pairs victories, including a 29-4 mark during the dual season. She primarily played with Molly McBain on Court 4, and the pair earned a 14-1 record together. Caffrey also played with Sara Putt, and they earned a 12-1 mark together, including a win on court 4 against No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC and No. 4 LSU.

Chacon played in just 10 matches on the season, posting a 4-6 mark, with a 2-2 record in tournaments (all paired with Caffrey) and a 2-4 record in duals, combining with Brooke Kuhlman (1-3), Nikki Esposito (1-0) and Sara Putt (0-1).

STRONG DEFENSEAfter dropping a close set, 25-23, to begin the match against Florida Atlantic on September 6, the Seminoles dominated the second set with a 25-11 victory to tie things up.

The set was close to start, and was tied at 9-9, but FSU closed out with a 16-2 run to take the set, eventually defeating the Owls in five sets.

PRESEASON ALL-ACCA pair of returning players that earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors in 2018 were recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference heading into the 2019 season as senior Payton Caffrey and junior Taryn Knuth were named to the 18-member Preseason All-ACC Team. It is the second year in a row that Caffrey and Knuth have received preseason accolades from the conference.

FRESH FACESThere are a lot of newcomers on the 2019 Florida State Volleyball roster. Overall, only six of the 16 Seminoles traveled with the team during 2018.

The Noles welcome four true freshmen: Jessica Nunge (Newburgh, Ind.), Loren Scott (Tallahassee, Fla.), Emma Clothier (Carrollton, Texas) and Lauryn Burrows (Marietta, Ga.).

There are also three transfers that are joining FSU for the first time: junior Jasmyn Martin (Minnesota), redshirt junior Caleigh Morrison (West Florida) and sophomore Marissa Stockman (Illinois State).

Along with those, there are three players that redshirted their freshman season in 2018: Alyssa Collins (Fort Myers, Fla.), Morgan Chacon (Crown Point, Ind.) and Lily Tessier (Fort Myers, Fla.).

VOTED TO FINISH 2ND IN ACCFor the fourth time in the last five seasons, Florida State was been picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, as voted on by the 15 ACC head coaches. The Seminoles received two first-place votes and 174 points, which trailed 2018 ACC Champion Pitt, which garnered 195 points and 13 first-place votes.

The Seminoles have finished either first or second in the conference in eight of the last 10 seasons, including ACC Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

SUMMER TRIP TO EUROPEFlorida State was able to get a head start on the 2019 season during a trip to Europe from June 22-July 2.

The entire 17-member squad, along with coaches and support staff, traveled between Italy (Milan, Verona and Venice), Slovenia (Maribor and Lake Bled) and Austria (Graz) over the 11-day trip, and competed in five exhibition matches among local federation and club teams.
