Guidance on the use of per formance suits for younger swimmers
Swimmingis a spor t for everyone, and it is SwimmingNSW’s intenttohave it remainsobyremovinganybarr iers thatmayexist topar t icipating inourspor t.
I t is importantfor swimmingtoremainanaffordableandaccessiblespor t for al l youngswimmersandtheir famil ies.
Toencourageafair andequitablef ieldof play, SwimmingNSW&SwimmingAustral iarecommendsthat incompetit ionsfor swimmers12yrsandunder, technical orper formancesuits arenotworn.
Thesehigh-techracingsuits weredevelopedwithmucholder, el ite internationalswimmers inmind. There is l i tt le evidencetosuggestthatthesesuits provideaper formanceadvantagefor swimmers inthis agegroup.
Instead, SwimmingNSWadvocatesthatagreater emphasis is placedoncorrect stroketechniqueandage-appropriatetrainingfor theholist ic developmentof a youngswimmer.
