Note from TinaJust like you, we stare at 2021 with hope that things will be different. We know they won’t be the same as before the global pandemic. They will be new with a hint of the old. And so, we are choosing to replace the word different with renewal. We will focus on shedding what used to be and becoming the new Joy’s House. We will focus on what our Guests need now; we will focus on what caregivers need now. Through all of the necessary alterations, we will continue to ask ourselves the very important questions we established last year:

• Is it core to our mission and does it allow us to focus on meaningful, safe and embracing adult day and caregiver support services?

• Is it the best use of donors’ financial support?

• Is it needed and/or does it have a great benefit?

• Are we the best organization to do it?

• Will people, companies and foundations be supportive, when needed?

• Will it have a financial benefit to our organization?

• Are we moving with intention and in as simple of a way as possible?

• Will it allow us to be exceptional? We continue to listen to what our families need. The answers have remarkably stayed the same: safety, community, education, self-care, purpose, support, reassurance. It’s our job – our mission – to continue to find innovative ways to fulfill these needs. We look forward to serving an increasing number of Guests (clients) with each passing week. We look forward to launching our renewed Caregiver Support Services with not just our Joy’s House families, but with all family caregivers in the state of Indiana. I would be remiss if I didn’t say thank you for all of the support, financial generosity and care over the last couple of years. It’s not been easy for any of us, but by the grace of God, we’re still here serving our Guests and the people who love them the most. And we are beyond grateful because not only is it our mission, but it’s our heart.

Warmly,

Tina McIntoshPresident & Founder

Note from CorrineAfter just completing my second year as Board Chair and reflecting on 2019 and 2020, together you have supported our mission through a capital campaign and even through this latest hurdle, COVID-19. Together, along with the staff who has loved and cared for the families in a beautiful and caring way, here we are with a bright outlook and the promise of a better tomorrow. It takes a village starting with Tina, staff, the board, volunteers and supporters from near and far. You all make a difference and we are grateful and blessed by you. We are so grateful to the staff at both houses, who selflessly ensured Guests were engaged, cared for, and remained safe. We are also grateful to you, our supporters in so many ways, for your kindness, time, talent and/or treasure and for truly caring for our mission. You’ve helped me see the real Joy’s House purpose in keeping our beautiful families together. What more can you ask for! Thank you, one and all, you’ve made a difference to me and to the success of Joy’s House.

Warmly,

Corrine WalterImmediate Past Chair

2020

At Joy’s House we keep families together.

®

Caregiving for a parent, spouse, family member or friend can be both wonderful and exhausting. What are you to do if you need to go to work, attend an appointment or simply take time for yourself? Adult day service is the perfect answer and Joy’s House is here to help.

What we do: Joy’s House serves adults living with life-altering diagnoses and their families by providing exceptional adult day and caregiver services.

We have big dreams: We envision a world where all individuals with life-altering diagnoses and their families are living fulfilled lives of knowledge, choice and comfort.

We value: InclusionSelf-worthSafetyTruthfulness

Our Guests are our heart: We treat everyone with dignity and compassion through our exceptional care.

You take care and leave the rest to us: One in three people is a family caregiver for a loved one, and the number of at-home family caregivers is steadily increasing. Joy’s House offers caregiver support services to family caregivers caring for an aging or disabled loved one. Our Caregiver Support Services include: • CARE Kits: This Kit helps you pre-plan and keep important information in one place, while also providing templates to track medications, behavior changes and more. • Caregiver Crossing: Our podcast is co-hosted by Tina McIntosh and Terri Stacy and embraces family caregivers of today and tomorrow. Listen to new episodes published on joyshouse.org every Monday!

We love our Guests 111 Guests experienced care and community at Joy’s House 4,059 days of care were provided at our two locations $27,115 total amount of scholarship support awarded to families in need of assistance

Volunteers make a difference135 volunteers served 480 hours

And we are not done yet: With the help of donors, partners and volunteers in our community, we will continue to serve over 100 adults living with a life-altering diagnosis and more than 400 caregiving individuals annually.

Located in Broad Ripple and on the south side of Indianapolis, Joy’s House provides two locations for adult day services. We host Guests (clients) seeking safety, companionship and engagement in the community. Many of our Guests are no longer able to stay at home alone safely due to basic aging or a variety of diagnoses, including, but not limited to dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Down syndrome. Joy’s House services are designed for those with a wide range of abilities and interests.

In their own words...Joy’s House is a reassuring hand on a shoulder. It’s a game of Scrabble, a song in a sunny window, and a blanket tucked carefully around your knees. It’s a place where caregivers and Guests are truly SEEN, known, and loved.Joy’s House is place of respite and holy purpose. And it is evident from the moment you first walk in the door.– Stasia Demos Mills, Joy’s House Vice Chair, Anastasia Demos Mills, Attorney & Counselor at Law, LLC

join us the evening of October 15, 2021

FOR OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

“Joy’s House is one of the most aptly named organizations I’ve ever been involved with. There is joy on the faces of the residents, joy on the faces of staff members who truly love both the Guests and their caregivers, and joy on the faces of caregivers who know their loved ones are not just being cared for, but loved. Many of us find our resources of time and money to be stretched these days, but Joy’s House continues to be worth my investment of both.” – Amy Magan, Supporter, Development Committee Member and former Board Member

“I am so very grateful for the scholarship that allowed my sister to come there as long as she did. We met so many wonderful people. Every-one was so kind to us. I hope Joy’s House can continue to help people the way it helped us.” – Caregiver and Joy’s House Scholarship recipient

“Joy’s House has always been a saving grace for their Guests and families. 2020 has been an incredible reminder of that. When Joy’s House needed to pause their services due to the pandemic, Guests, families, and staff found a key piece of their lives suddenly missing. So, while the circumstances of 2020 have been challenging, it has been heartwarming to hear the stories of our beloved Guests reuniting with their friends and ‘family’ at Joy’s House. And it’s been a great reminder of how critical these relationships are for all involved.” – Doug Everidge, Joy’s House Board Chair, Everidge Strategic Consulting, LLC

“Joy’s House literally saved my life. We were four years into my husband’s Alzheimer’s journey when we went to Joy’s House. I never worried about his care because from the first time we stepped through the door, I knew the staff was full of love and compassion and had a true calling for what they were doing. And they did not just care for him, they cared for ME as well. Joy’s House is the whole package and I don’t regret one minute of our experience there. I will FOREVER consider Joy’s House ‘family’ and will be forever grateful to them for their all- encompassing support.” – Jane, Caregiver and Joy’s House Scholarship recipient

“Throughout the pandemic, Joy’s House leadership went out of their way to make sure staff felt cared for. To begin with, we were set up with work-from-home supplies, complete with toilet paper. Along the way, they checked in with us (often) – they celebrated with us when life was good, and gave us grace when it wasn’t. And looking forward, in the spirit of our value individuality, each of our unique strengths were considered and written into the plan for our future. For our renewal.” – Corrina Thompson, Community Relations Manager
