UCA family,

Welcome to the UCA Athletics Booster Club Spring Sports Program! What a unique spring it has been with Covid-19 drastically changing our normal lives and patterns, one of those being our spring sports. While we are deeply disappointed not being able to watch our Junior High and High School athletes compete, we know and trust that God does use all things – good and bad, easy and difficult – to teach us lessons about life and Him. So while we have been unable to compete this spring, I pray that your family is healthy and safe, and you’ve been able to reconnect with each of them in ways that normally we wouldn’t have time for. I also pray for our young student athletes, that the time off has in unique way given them a chance to breathe and heal and take a needed rest. As our coaches encourage and give workouts from home, we look forward to the day hopefully soon when we can reconnect as teams and a broader community. And I know how excited, grateful, and ready we will be for those first practices and games to come back when this has passed! Until then, stay safe and God bless.

We do want to take a moment and update you on our UCA Athletic Boosters Club activities as we head into the summer months. UCA ‘Boosters’ is an organization run through our UCA community that specifically helps fundraise for UCA Athletics. The Boosters Club seeks the growth and development of each sports team and is excited to include you some specific you can support athletics here at UCA. First, come to our Boosters Club meetings! These are held monthly and are an easy way to get involved with UCA Athletics. Our next meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 19 at 6 PM, so if you’d like to check out that meeting, send me an email to be included in that Zoom meeting. We hold a few key fundraisers each year including an annual golf tournament in the spring, so please email me to find out information on how you can get involved. We’re thankful for the many ways we get to connect with the UCA community, and hope you can join us in that this upcoming year. Have a blessed and safe month of May, and GO EAGLES!

AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITYPARTNERSHIP

UC Academy has entered into a matriculation agreement with Azusa Pacific University in which UC Academy High School graduates will be given guaranteed admission AND $10,000 of base scholarship per year at APU. The agreement went into effect this 2017-2018 school year, and is available to graduates who

are continuously enrolled for 4 years of high school at UCA, earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher, scored 990 or higher on the SAT (UCA average is 1149) or scored 19 or higher on the ACT (UCA average is 23.5). UCA

graduates would still be eligible to pursue other scholarships offered by APU as well.

“While financial considerations are important, the value of Christian education goes well beyond dollars and cents,” Superintendent Tim Hoy comments. “One cannot put a price on skillful, godly, confident children that positively impact their world for Christ while living lives that count for eternity. This is

your ultimate goal for your children, and it is ours too. You can count on us to provide your children with academic excellence while helping them develop authentic Christian character.”

MICROSOFT OFFICE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhy Microsoft Office Certifications?Microsoft Office is the foundation of business technology. With over 1.2 Billion users Microsoft Office is used throughout the globe and remains the #1 platform for business. By equipping UCA students with curriculum, testing, and certification it will prepare our students for a technologically driven future. What is the Value of a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification? This program will give our students a great advantage as they move into college and ultimately the work force. In high-growth industries, entry-level employees who hold a Microsoft Office Specialist certification can earn up to $16,000 more, annually, than their peers. In addition, once certified, students may earn college credit pending on the Universities policies. What Should My Child Expect? The good news is that if your child has been in our school for more than a few years it’s likely that they have already been exposed to many of the learning objectives that are required to pass the exam. Junior High students have the opportunity to take the certification classes during 7th period elective as well as Arts Academy. High School students will rotate into the certification course during Study Skills as well as have the opportunity to take the class during Power Hour. Our partner in this venture, STEP Certified, will provide online based training which not only supports our students, but our teachers as well, to ensure simple and complete understanding.Once they are ready for the certification exam, students will be provided with a Pre-Test to ensure they are ready to pass the certification exam. A minimum score on the Pre-Test of at least 700 is required to be eligible to take the certification exam. Once a successful score is achieved, they can make an appointment with Mrs. Fuentes to take the certification exam at their convenience. Is Getting Certification Required?Obtaining certification is not required, however with as much value as these certifications provide, we hope that all students in grades 6-12 will do their best to become certified! Will this Require Extra Time of My Child?Due to the Microsoft Certification content being offered in as a limited elective in Junior High and High School Power Hour and Study Skills, time spent outside of the classroom or assignment is highly recommended, but up to you. We recommend students spend time in the STEP Certified website to review tutorials as well as take several GMetrix practice tests. How Can I Help My Child? You can help your child by encouraging them as they pursue certification. In addition, review and assist them with the materials provided within the STEP Certified web-based learning system. This system is provided to our students at no cost and will play a key role in getting your student prepared to pass the exam. This Sounds Great, But What Will It Cost? There is no additional cost for this program! It is an opportunity available to all 6th-12th grade students. How Long is a Microsoft Certification Good For?Once a Microsoft certification is earned that certification is registered with Microsoft and stays as part of the students record forever. Opportunity Available to Parents as well! Parents, this opportunity is available to you as well for a small fee. Please contact Mrs. Fuentes for more information. Ready to Take the Certification Pre-Test or Have Questions About the Program? Contact Mrs. Fuentes at [email protected]
