The Minocqua Forest Rider members were so helpful that it is hard to describe the impact. The enthusiasm and resources to help Ed and myself manage this event has touched us in so many ways. Many individuals were proud to support and attend this event as cancer has touched everyone's family and friends. The local businesses and their awesome support continue to amaze us. The people with their kindness and generosity truly make living here a lot of fun and full of adventure!. Many congratulations and heartfelt comments made Saturday a day we will never forget. We are happy that we took on the challenge to help the cancer patients of the Northwoods. We could not have done this without our awesome team of volunteers. Congratulations to the sponsors, volunteers, riders, and supporting businesses that helped us achieve a wonderful goal with an accomplishment that keeps on giving. The final results are still being tallied, but we can assure you we exceeded our goals. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, God bless all cancer patients and their families and friends! First Annual Cruise For Cancer Ride, A Big Success!

Saturday, January 26th was a day that has touched our hearts in many ways. We cannot express our gratitude and our appreciation of the wonderful members of this fine club. The support of the MFR volunteers and the BOD was given freely and willingly and with such joy. This event has surpassed anything we have ever experienced in our lives. Who knew when Ed introduced Debbie to the Northwoods in the winter of 1996 that this community would become more to her than she could ever imagine. The Northwoods Cruise for Cancer started with an idea to give back to the patients and medical community that is now our home. The people we met, in the beginning, were strangers and acquaintances and now have become wonderful friends. One of Debbie's questions while preparing to move to the Northwoods was how she was going to meet people - and the answer came from her health. Trail Supervisor Report It was great that we had just enough snow on the ground, at the end of December, to get the trails open. Since that time, three major snow producing storms missed us to the south, making it a difficult challenge for our grooming team to keep the trails in great shape.

Thanks to Trail Supervisors Bob Rynders & Tom Teichmiller and our grooming team for providing our club the best possible trail conditions with limited snow.

This year ’s grooming team members include: Curtis Hupf, J a m e s M c C a f f e r t y, B r u c e LaRose, Al Mathews, George Tamms, Bob Jaskolski, Bil l Leinonen, Jim Kendzior, Jon Rippinger, Gregg Lindner, Dave Hermes, J im Hel le r, Dave Kasprzyk, Pete Waldvogel, Art Wehner t , M ike Deu tscher, Gordon Murray, Scott Sattler, Mike Schlinsog, John Hollander, Jim Bosben, Travis Behnke, Timothy Deschler Jr, Don Cupp, Rick Edwardsen, Chris Kuhl and Doug Holle.

Club News

For their 4th season, Larry and Nancy Schum are at it again, planning those wonderful group rides!

This year’s destinations have been to Musky Jack’s on Pike Lake, Gooch’s A-One Bar & Grill in Boulder Junction and The Burnt Bridge Tavern in Conover.

Sad News

Two snowmobile deaths have been reported in the greater Minocqua area recently.

On January 21st, in the early morning hours, a 25 year old rode his snowmobile into a closed gate on an unmarked trail. This accident happened within our trail system.

On January 26th, a 44 year old failed to negotiate a corner and rode his snowmobile off the trail and into trees. This happened in the Lake Tomahawk area.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, family & friends and anyone else affected by this terrible loss.

President’s Report First of all, I’d like to thank the Hazelhurst Pub for hosting our December member meeting. The pizza buffet had a great variety to choose from and tasted delicious!

Again this year the Annual Chili Buffet, hosted by Bill Fricke and The Boathouse was a fun and successful event.

Not only did we have our January membersh ip meet ing a f te r everybody’s belly was full of food, but we also celebrated a birthday!

Thanks Bill for donating the chicken & traditional chili, along with the BBQ sliders and all the fixings. Your generosity is very much appreciated by our club.

Club Apparel Eileen Ryan has done a superb job thus far as the Special Events Coordinator. Shortly after her appointment, she organized the Special Events Committee to help plan the details for club events. After meeting several times, the committee has taken on an additional task of purchasing Forest Rider apparel, to be sold at club events and eventually on our website. This is something that has been requested by members over the years and the Board of Directors struggled with finding a solution. Committee representatives attended the January Board meeting and requested $2,000 for funding the project. The Directors unanimously voted to provide $2,500 for this fiscal year. The new gear will be rolled out, on display and available for purchase at our booth at the upcoming Snowmobiling Snow Show.
