2018 ROANOKE’S | 2ND ANNUAL

FINEST & BREWER’S BALL

A CELEBRATION OF ROANOKE’S FINEST

BEER, FOOD, MUSIC & DIFFERENCE MAKERS

January 2018

Greetings from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation—

It is our pleasure to invite you to join us in celebrating Roanoke’s top emerging leaders — and helping to cure cystic fibrosis — as a 2018 Roanoke’s Finest & Brewer’s Ball sponsor.

In 2017, the Roanoke community and over 225 guests came together for the

inaugural CFF Roanoke’s Finest campaign and Brewer’s Ball to raise over $35,000 in

support of the CFF mission (to cure and treat cystic fibrosis) with a memorable

evening of great food, beer, music, auctions and more in downtown Roanoke.

These funds went directly towards funding innovative research and drug

therapies, promoting individualized treatments, and ensuring access to high-

quality, specialized care that will continue to impact people living with CF. Recent

advances include a new triple drug combination that could soon treat the underlying

cause of CF in 90% of CF patients (up from 50% today) and, even more exciting,

mind-blowing gene editing technologies which could allow a CF patient to enter a

doctor’s office with CF and leave without it.

Many in the medical research field believe that a cure for CF is within reach in

the next 20 years—and when that happens, you will be able to say you were a

part of making “CF” stand for “Cure Found.”

On June 7, 2018, as we celebrate our 2nd year in Roanoke, we will again recognize a

talented group of Roanoke’s emerging business and community leaders as our 2018

Roanoke’s Finest. We hope you, too, will join us in supporting these remarkable

individuals by sponsoring this great event in year two—and moving us all closer to

the day when we can celebrate a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Thank you for your consideration. Cheers!

Sincerely,

Terri Q. Quinan W. Michael Galliher

ABOUT CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic, life-shortening

disease that affects every organ in the body and

makes breathing difficult. In people with CF, a

defective gene causes a thick buildup of mucus in

the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the

lungs, mucus clogs airways and traps bacteria,

leading to life-threatening lung infections.

More than 30,000 individuals in the U.S. have

cystic fibrosis. 1 in 31 Americans are

symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene.

ABOUT THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION

Founded in 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world's

leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. The Foundation

was started by parents desperate to save their children’s lives.

Their relentless and impassioned determination to prolong life has

resulted in tremendous strides over the past 60 years in

accelerating innovative research and drug development, as well as

advancing care and advocacy.

Virtually every approved cystic fibrosis drug therapy available now

was made possible because of the Foundation and its supporters.

Still, we believe no one should have to die at a young age.

THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION,

leading the way

WHY SUPPORT THE CF FOUNDATION?

Many people with CF are living long enough to

realize their dreams of attending college, pursuing

careers, getting married, and having children.

This is due in large part to the work of the

Foundation and the amazing CF community.

We helped discover the gene that causes CF,

created a state-of-the-art model for CF care, and

have funded groundbreaking research. But we’re

not done. We are working every day to build on this

incredible momentum, and we won’t stop until

there is a cure for all people living with CF.

WE ARE ONE. UNTIL IT’S DONE.

We will not rest until we have achieved

normal life spans and have a cure for

100% of people living with cystic fibrosis.

WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Sixty years ago, most children did not live long enough to attend elementary school.

Today, thanks to CFF-based research and care, the median CF survival age is now in the 40s.

2018 ROANOKE’S FINEST & BREWER’S BALL A CELEBRATION OF ROANOKE’S FINEST

BEER, FOOD, MUSIC & DIFFERENCE MAKERS

campaign + event overview The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Virginia’s Roanoke’s Finest and Brewer’s Ball brings together the city’s

best and brightest business and community leaders and future leaders.

The evening is a who’s who gathering of Roanoke’s business and community leaders, and Finest Honorees who

show exemplary leadership, are active in the community, and excel in their profession, business, or industry.

These leaders are not only making a positive local impact, and showcase the Finest in Roanoke—they’re also

committed to the CFF mission to treat and cure cystic fibrosis for 30,000 children and adults nationwide, and 880

in Virginia, with the disease.

Honorees, sponsors, and leaders who participate are given the opportunity to display their community

involvement and professional achievements—and to be recognized among Roanoke’s Finest.

As a Roanoke’s Finest campaign and Brewer’s Ball sponsor, you will align with the Valley’s top business leaders and young professional guests — while helping to find a cure for CF!

WHAT · The CFF Brewer’s Ball is an evening that culminates the

Finest campaign by recognizing our Honorees and inviting the

greater Roanoke community to come together to enjoy craft beer,

food, live music, and more, while making a difference.

WHEN · Thursday, June 7, 2018 · 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

(VIP Honorees and Sponsors Reception at 6:30 p.m.)

WHERE · Century Plaza in downtown Roanoke

WHO · Hosted by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Virginia Chapter,

the Brewer’s Ball honors up to ten (10) top business and

emerging leaders in Roanoke and attracts industry and

community leaders and young professionals for an evening with

the area’s top breweries and restaurants.

WHY · Imagine struggling for every breath—something most people don’t have to think twice about. For most,

breathing is a voluntary act. For those with CF, this simple act is a daily battle and each day can be a fight to survive.

The defective gene which causes CF substantially impairs normal respiratory and digestive functions, making the

simple acts of breathing and eating a daily challenge. The CF Foundation was founded in 1955 and since, has made

tremendous strides in accelerating innovative research and drug development, and in advancing care and advocacy.

While people with CF are living longer than in the past, we still lose precious young lives every day.

Our story will not end until we achieve normal life spans and have a cure for 100 percent of people with CF.

INDIVIDUAL TICKETS • $75 ($60 tax-deductible)

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has unrestricted financial reserves of about 12 times its budgeted annual expenses, following a one-time royalty sale 2014. These funds, along with the public’s continuing support, are needed to help accelerate our efforts to pursue a lifelong cure for this fatal disease, develop lifesaving new therapies and help all people with CF live full, productive lives. To request a copy of our Strategic Plan, email [email protected] or call 800 FIGHT-CF. Financial statements available at State Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, P.O. Box 1163, Richmond, VA 23218. Important Note on Attendance at Foundation Events: To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow

basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner

elbow and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct

and indirect contact as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed

decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the

indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot

distance from each other at all times.
