TOWN SET-OUT RATE STUDY Mecklenburg County conducted a study finalized in January 2015 which included a visual curbside trash and recycling cart set-out rate study for each municipality. Davidson was the best in the county in recycling; we had the highest pounds of recycling per cart at 38 pounds. Way to go, citizens!

One area we can improve is the total waste generated (trash and recycling) per household. Davidson is second highest in the county compared to other towns (we generate an average of 33 pounds of trash). We encourage you to reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost.

INTERESTED IN COMPOSTING?Compost is a dark, crumbly, sweet smelling material, similar to the top layer of soil in a forest. It is an excellent soil additive, which can help transform heavy red clay into rich fertile soil.

Save up your leaves this fall to start your own backyard compost bin. In your bin, create alternate layers of “greens/nitrogen” and “browns/carbon” with at least a 10” layer of dry carbon materials like shredded newspaper, ripped up cardboard, straw, or dry brown leaves covering food scraps.
