Mr. Lachlan MacQuarrie Memorial Fund In memorial of the �rst Department

Head: Mr. Lachlan Bruce MacQuarrieMr. MacQuarrie was the pioneer and an important �gure in the development of social work training programmes in Hong Kong and in the establishment of our Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS). During the 70s in Hong Kong, there was a pressing need for trained frontline social work personnel. Mr. MacQuarrie was invited to take the helm to develop professional trainings in social work, and served as the founding principal of Hong Kong’s Institute for Social Work Training (ISWT) in 1973. Under his able leadership, ISWT was moved to become the School of Social Work of the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1977 and the School was eventually renamed as APSS in 1986 with Mr. MacQuarrie as the founding head of the Department. His total dedication and devotion to the development of social work, particularly his pioneering e�ort in curriculum design, and in the provision of indigenous trainings, were highly recognized. To keep on his long-lasting spirit of growth and aspiration in social work development, we would like to appeal to you to make donations to the Fund. The Fund would be mainly used for providing scholarships for our Bachelor and Master Degree students in social work with outstanding academic performance. The Fund will also be used to support student activities whenever appropriate.
