Co-ops meet the needs of people whose needs aren’t being met otherwise, and they exist in every area of the economy. Co-ops are rooted in communities by their very nature. They are accountable to their communities and the people who use their services, because these same people own the co-op. Today, we’ll look at a how you can use a new resource to help engage your members in a better understanding of their role in your co-op. And we’ll explore how our housing co-ops in New Brunswick contribute to the international co-op movement by enhancing our own governance, engaging in local and global efforts and protecting our assets for the future. Co-op members expect their directors to provide principled leadership and live up to the highest standards of conduct. But what’s the right standard? And what exactly are a director’s legal and ethical duties? We’ll discuss how to build members’ confidence in their elected directors and what tools are available to help.
