The start of the 2015-2016 ASPE-NJ chapter season is here and I’d like to welcome all of you back from the break with an update where the Chapter is looking to go this season. I have been voted in to take over as the new President. Dave has stepped down as president and has agreed to take over the roll as VP Technical. Thank you Dave for your

hard work over the past few years. Your dedication and ef-forts are appreciated. The remainder of the board is un-changed. And please take a moment to thank them for their time in the past years and for the upcoming seasons. The Chapter board is a group of plumbing engineers, designers and salesmen, who work on their own time, to make this chapter possible. Because of their efforts we have a chapter that serves as a resource of talented individuals in the plumb-

ing field. These resources are valuable for our profes-sion and there is some danger that this chapter may not exist in the future. As you have heard our membership is on a slow decline and one of the goals for the board this year is to stop the decline and maintain a healthy meeting attendance. We will be instituting some new programs this year to help with this goal. One example is the Ambassador Program, which should attract a more healthy attendance at these meetings. The pro-gram consists of a board member or a regular attendee of the monthly meetings communicating directly with new or absentee members and attending the meetings with them. To make this program a success we need to be encouraging, engaging and inviting of the attendees. Please provide any feedback you have on this. Upcoming ASPE events include the Technical Symposi-um which will be held on October 1-4, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency in St. Louis, MO. Our New Jersey Chapter is looking to have a 40th Anniversary celebration some-time in Late fall, more details to come. I look forward to seeing everyone at our September meeting.

Welcome back to the start of the new

ASPE year, I hope you had a good sum-

mer. Things were happening over the

summer, the 2015 National Standard

Plumbing Code was listed on the register

as being proposed to be adopted. You

can review the proposal at this link and submit com-

ments by October 16th. We plan to discuss any com-

ments people have at our September meeting.

Be aware that even though we did not officially adopt the

2012 edition those changes are incorporated into the

2015 code and are not highlighted anymore. So read the

2015 version carefully or get a copy of the 2012 or 2009

to compare the text to see the revisions since the 2009

edition.

If you have been reading the news in New York City

they have had a Legionella outbreak in the Bronx due to

contamination at a cooling tower. 12 people have died

and 115 people have been sickened. Testing of build-

ings in the area has shown 11 of 39 buildings testing

positive for legionella. Due to the severity of the out-

break the City of New York enacted a new law requiring

building owners to register new and existing equipment

and to annually certify that the equipment has been in-

spected, tested and remediated. The NY City Buildings

Department has a website for more information. The NY

Department of Health issued a mandatory order to have

cooling systems inspected and remediated within 14

days of receipt of the order. The website lists a number

of vendors that can assist building owners to comply.
