Excused Absences

…are given for necessary or unavoidable reasons.

Student illness, death of family member or close friend, medical or dental appt., family emergency, religious

obligations, pre-approved family trip, inclement weather, & discipline actions.

Parents should call or e-mail the school on the day of your

absence. If needed, you may also bring in a note when you return.

Make-Up Work

• Students are allowed 1 day to make-up work for each day absent.

• Long term assignments such as term papers, projects, etc. must be

turned in on time.It is your responsibility to request

make-up work from your teachers when you return to school!

Tardy to School

Students are expected to arrive to school on time. Verified medical or court appointments are excused.

If you are tardy: 1st and 2nd time - warning

Each additional time - admin detentionConsequences start over each 9 weeks for

school tardies ONLY.Excessive tardies may result in a parent

meeting with the Attendance Officer!

Truancy/SkippingIt is unacceptable for a student to miss all or

part of a class or school day without the approval of a teacher, parent

and/or the administration.Consequences:

Skipping: school-based disciplineTruancy: detention for each

hour of the day that the student misses.

Classroom Behavior Students are expected to follow school and

teacher rules and procedures within the classroom. This includes being on time for

class. Consequences:

1st - 3rd Offense: behavior incident report 4th Offense: teacher detention 5th+ Offense: office referral The count does NOT start over each 9 weeks.

Missing AssignmentsStudents are expected to turn in all assignments on time. If not, missing

assignments incident reports must be completed. They are counted separately

from behavior incident reports. Consequences:

1st - 3rd Offense: assignment incident report 4th Offense: teacher detention 5th+ Offense: office referral The count does NOT start over each 9 weeks.

What must I pass this school year?

Students… must pass at least 4 full year subjects each year…2 of which must be from among English/

language arts, math, science and history. Students must also demonstrate, through

assessments, that they are ready for the content of the next grade level.

Human Rights

In this building, we respect and value each other for our differences as well as

for what we have in common.

Treat others with respect

Intimidation, unkind comments, name-calling, spreading

rumors, physical aggression, bullying, and actions that intentionally make others

uncomfortable are not acceptable at any time!

BullyingYOU are a bully if:1. You intend to cause harm/hurt to another student

through unkind comments or other actions.2. Or: You are more powerful than your victim –

physically or socially (real or perceived by victim)3. Or: You have repeatedly made unwanted,

demeaning, unkind or aggressive comments toward another student.

4. Or you have repeatedly made unwanted aggressive physical contact with another student.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY, DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!

BullyingBullying is repeated, unwanted,

aggressive behavior meant to cause physical or emotional

discomfort to another student. Making threats, spreading rumors,

physical or verbal attacks or intentional exclusion are

ways students may bully each other

BullyingBullying must be reported!

If you are a victim of bullying….Or know someone who is being

bullied….1. Tell an adult: Parent, Teacher, Guidance

Counselor.2. Fill out an incident report in guidance.3. Do not delete proof of cyberbullying: text

messages, facebook posts, etc.4. Do not respond to texts, or social media posts.5. Your report will be confidential.

HorseplayHorseplay is not appropriate

in school

Students can be hurt unintentionally through horseplay!~ Therefore, in school, students must keep their hands

and feet to themselves at all times.~ Taking food, personal items, or school work from

another student is unacceptable behavior.~ Remember, what is fun for you may not be fun for

others.

Sexual Harassment

Sexual Harassment may include written comments, physical contact, verbal

comments, or drawings.

Violations must be reported to a teacher, administrator

or counselor immediately

Cell Phone Policy

Cell Phones must be must be turned off completely by the start of

first period and must be stored out of sight at all times !

You must have permission from your teacher or an administrator to use your

cell phone during the school day.

Students should have no expectation of privacy in their use of portable

communication and other electronic or mechanical devices while on

school property, or when attending any school function or activity such

as sports events or field trips.

Cell Phone PolicyYou may not use your cell phone to call someone to pick you up during the school day.Using your phone to call home without permission is a violation of the cell phone policy.

If you are too sick to stay in school you must seethe nurse to make that call!

How you represent yourself each day…in your appearance and actions… is important both in school

and in your life beyond school.

FCPS Dress Policy

Guidelines:• Skirts, shorts and PE shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer! • No muscle shirts or tank tops or shirts with straps that are less than 2” wide

•No low cut, see-through, off the shoulder, or cutaway blouses.

FCPS Dress Policy• Student backs, midriffs and cleavage must be covered.

• Clothing bearing obscene, suggestive, alcohol, tobacco or drug-related symbols are prohibited.

• No hats, headbands, caps, curlers, picks or sunglasses may be worn.

FCPS Dress Policy Shoes must be worn at all times.

Heavy jackets or coats must be kept in lockers. Pants must come to the top

of the hip bone and stay there! Underwear may not be visible at any time!

FCPS Dress PolicyStudents who use poor judgment

or fail to cooperate will be sent home to change into clothes that

are appropriate for the school environment.

Violations Conference w/Admin - subject to discipline depending on violation.Discipline could result in: suspension or admin. detention, banned from computer use and loss of chromebook, suspension and possible referral to a discipline hearing.

Standards of Conduct

Things that will definitely bring trouble to your door!

Unauthorized legal drugs:

Possession, Use or Sale

1st offense: student may be suspended.

2nd offense: suspension and referral to the superintendent.

Long term suspension or expulsion may result.

Illegal Drugs:Possession, Use or Sale

…will result in immediate suspension and referral to the

superintendent. Long term suspension or

expulsion may result.

Drug Paraphernalia:Possession, Use or Sale

Consequences:1st offense: item confiscated, parent notified, suspension.2nd offense: suspension, referralto superintendent

Drug Paraphernalia:Clothing/Accessories

Clothing and accessories bearing drug-related or alcohol-related

slogans and symbols are prohibited!

Police Drug DogsDrug searches may be conducted randomly and without public warning.

Drug dogs are used to identifyitems or areas where drugsmight be located.While searches are being conducted, students will remain in classrooms in a lockdown status.

Alcohol:Possession, Use, Sharing

Consequences: 1st offense: 5 day suspension,

referral to superintendent.2nd offense: suspension, referral to

the superintendent, may be long term suspended or expelled

Tobacco: Use or Possession

Consequences:1st offense: 1 day suspension or ISA. SRO notified.2nd offense: 2 days of ISA. SRO. 3rd offense: 3 day suspension. SRO. Subsequent violations: or failure to complete assigned mandatory tobacco counseling may be referral to SBO.

FightingStudents who fight will be suspended.

It takes 2 students to make a fight.Consequences:

1st offense: At least 3 days suspension for the aggressor.

Students who interfere with a teacher who is trying to stop the fight will

also be suspended. 2nd offense during middle school: may result in referral to the superintendent.

HazingIntentionally harming someone to provide “initiation” into a group,

regardless of whether the student participated voluntarily or not.

Consequences: Hazing is a Class 1 misdemeanor!

A school resource officer will be calledand charges will be filed.

Standards of ConductThe following behaviors are not acceptable at REAMS and may result in disciplinary consequences:- defiance of teacher or staff- disobedience- fighting- stealing- lying to teacher or staff- vandalism

- making threats to cause harm- pushing or shoving others/horseplay- using inappropriate language- inappropriate displays of affection- bringing laser pointers or pocket

knives to school- dress code violations- cheating/plagiarism

- trespassing after school hours- leaving school without permission- selling items to other students for profit (other than school fundraisers) - using electronic means for bullying, harassment or intimidation of others.- violation of bus rules.

Violation of law, school board policy or school regulations or any other conduct that the administration determines interferes with the orderly operation of the school may result

in discipline.

Riding a school bus is a privilege…not a right!

Incidents that occur before or after school at the bus stop, on the way to school or going home are subject to school disciplinepolicies.

School Bus RulesYou are expected to enter and leave the bus in an orderly manner and sit quietly in your seats until reaching your destination.All school rules applyon the bus!

School Bus Rules

To ride another bus home you must have a note from your parent/guardian.

To ride home with a friend, both students need notes

from parents.

All bus notes must be approved in the office!

Bus DisciplineStudents may receive the following consequences for not following bus safety rules:1st offense: warning letter depending on the violation 2nd offense: up to 3 days off the bus3rd offense: up to 5 days off the bus4th offense: up to 10 days off the bus, and must meet with superintendent before being able to ride the bus again.

expectations for appropriate conduct in school.

The Student and Parent Information Handbook is available on the FCPS website should you or your

parents need to refer to it.

Be sure to take the required Signature Form home to be signed by your parent/guardian and return it to your teacher by Friday at the latest! The entire “Parent and Student Information Handbook” is available on the FCPS web page.
