Welcome! We are glad you’re here! We invite you to

seek out the folks wearing the “Ask Me” badge.

Through them you will find information about the

ministries of Salem Heights Church and how to

become involved. Please fill out a Visitor Card and drop

it in one of the offering boxes as you leave or scan this code to go

directly to our website and fill out a visitor card. We have an excellent

nursery and programs for children newborn through high school. Any

of the ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper classroom. If

you feel more comfortable having your infant with you during the

service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for parents with

small children. There is a private room for nursing mothers across the

hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair, changing table and

portable crib. For your convenience, it also includes a monitor to

Our Purpose...

supportive environment, proclaim the standards of God’s truth,

Giving Update

THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.

“NEW YEAR’S REST” Hebrews 4:1-16

Presented by

Pastor Matt MacCollin

January 4, 2015

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015. How was 2014? Was it

a peaceful, restful year? As we think about it, some of us

might affirm, yes it was peaceful. But for many of us, well

we are not sure true peace is even possible.

Two artists were once commissioned to paint a picture of

peace. The first drew his perception of what peace would

look like. He painted an ocean, still as a pond, mirroring in

its depths every line and curve of a sailboat floating quietly

by. Overhead the sky was blue, flecked with light fluffy

clouds. And on the shore, children played in the shallows

and made castles in the sand. From his creative mind, that

is what peace would look like. The second artist’s picture, I

believe, was nearer to the truth. He depicted an ocean

scene of surf, pounding and bursting into towering clouds of

spray. The sky was black with the storm, and the surging

waves tossed and heaved. But far up on a rocky crag,

hidden in the cleft of a rock and sheltered from the wind,

sat a bird, safe and secure in her nest, looking out with a

serene and untroubled eye at all the turmoil beneath...

Page 8: 20150104 Web Bulletin

There are 361 days left of 2015 and God offers us His rest.

Let’s look into His perfect Word and see that there is good

news, we can have perfect rest in Jesus today.

Mankind’s Pattern

• Is seen throughout Scripture

• Israel in the desert reveals our negative pattern:

A savior – Moses was sent by God...

They believed and were set free from Egypt’s

bondage...

 Then they doubted God’s Word...

 Then they became anxious...

Then they rebelled, resulting in no rest.

Page 9: 20150104 Web Bulletin

God’s Persuasion Against Our Pride

• Jesus is the true Savior sent by God.

We believe and are set free from sin’s bondage.

We must not doubt as they did.

Our rest depends on His Word being true in our life.

Our rest depends on His power, not our abilities.

Our Surrender, Jesus Christ’s Power

• Jesus now, today, is our Great High Priest.

His Word reveals our heart and mind.

We must come to our senses in the midst of fight or

flight.

 Be diligent to surrender.

Confidently coming to His throne will bring rest.

Page 10: 20150104 Web Bulletin

NEW YEAR’S REST QUEST

• Will you commit to diligently surrender moment by

moment, running to His throne?
