2015 Sustainability Committee Newsletter Who Are We? The Sustainability Committee strives to provide resources, share ideas, investigate technologies and high- light sustainable success stories with B&W staff and clients. The committee has had a busy year! We post information on the intranet but thought we’d share a 2015 “year-in-review” with you in this newsletter. Sustainability Committee Mission: Baxter and Woodman advocates for a sustainable future and will educate our staff and clients, inno- vate processes, and integrate solutions that provide a responsible balance of economic, environmental, operational, and social value. Freedom Fields Tour, Rockford IL ~ Freedom Field is a not-for-profit organization formed to facilitate the development and operation of a renewable energy solutions center. Green Living Expo, MCC ~ McHenry County College promotes environmental stewardship at its annual Green Living Expo. Over 80 exhibitors were there to share ideas, information and products. Watch the intranet and your email next year for upcoming trips! In-House Initiatives Sustainability Blog ~ The blog is located on the intranet and available for all employees to post sustainable ideas and news articles. Earth Day 2015 ~ Sustainability fact sheets and tips were posted. Rain Garden ~ The Crystal Lake Raingarden got a thorough weeding this spring - thanks to all volunteers!! Crystal Lake Office Improvements ~ Sustainable solutions include low VOC paint and carpet, energy efficient lighting, local materials and a reclaimed wood conference table, energy star appliances, dual flush toilets, and provisions for solar array, daylight sensors and future vehicle charging stations. Green Cup Challenge ~ In an effort to highlight B&W green projects, the committee asked staff to submit projects incorporating sustainable elements for consideration. The winner was Wescott Park Storage Facility. Sustainability Resources Are Available! Sustainability Manual ~ A B&W created resource for sustainability solutions. Ever checked it out? It’s easy to find on the Intranet Sustainability Home page! Sustainability Cut Sheets ~ One page summaries of sustainable solutions. These sheets provide a quick and easy resource to share with clients. Find the sheets on the Intranet Sustainability Home page. In 2016, we will be developing interactive infographics highlighting the benefits of smart treatment plants and smart cities!

Did You Know?...• The CADD department in Crystal Lake saves plan sheets that are to be recycled and, on a routine

basis, drops them off at a local day care center for kids to color on. The kids love it and what a great way to reuse our materials!

• The Crystal Lake office now has recyclable cups. YES you can recycle those disposable coffee cups. We encourage their use, as well as offering mugs to visitors instead.

• Often, facility management is working right under our noses making sustainable improvements, such as switching out lighting to LEDs.
