Prices for all classes of cattle set record highs in 2014. Will the higher trend continue in 2015? The international market has

stayed strong in spite of record high prices around the world and U.S. beef continues to be in demand by more countries. Will the pressure of beef demand, tested by high prices and increasing amounts of competitive protein, spill over to cattle prices moving ahead?

Expansion looms due to more favorable weather conditions as well as record profits. Dr. Art Douglas will forecast if weather conditions will continue to be favorable for both expansion of the beef herd as well as for another bumper grain crop.

While volatility is a way of life, the more information you can obtain starting the new year increases the chances of successful cattle marketing and maximizing profit potential.

Getting Our Boots on Capitol Hill More than 200

cattlemen and women got their boots on Capitol Hill and had their voices heard at the 2014 Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. April 8-10. NCBA members and the 34 state affiliates represented took the top industry priorities to their elected state representatives.

top five issues are: beef trade with Brazil, the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, trade, Grazing Improvement Act and the EPAs recently proposed Waters of the United States rule.

On Wednesday, April 9, after a full day of Hill visits, cattlemen mingled with representatives and their staff at the Outback Steakhouse Reception. More than 2,000 people gathered in the Rayburn House Office Building to

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced last month that eligible farmers and ranchers can sign up for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) disaster assistance programs restored by passage of the 2014 Farm Bill.

We implemented these programs in record time and kept our commitment to begin sign-up today, said Agriculture Secretary Vilsack. Depending on the size and type of farm or ranch operation, eligible producers can enroll in one of four programs administered by the Farm Service Agency. The Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) and the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) will provide payments to eligible producers for livestock deaths and grazing losses that have occurred since the expiration of the livestock disaster assistance programs in 2011, and including calendar years 2012, 2013, and 2014. The

Emergency Assistance for Livestock Program (ELAP) provides emergency assistance to eligible producers of livestock that have suffered losses because of disease, severe weather, blizzards and wildfires.

Enrollment also opened for the Tree Assistance Program (TAP), which provides financial assistance to qualifying orchardists and nursery tree growers to replant or rehabilitate trees, bushes and vines damaged by natural disasters.
