Dr. Lisa S. Coico is the 12th President of The City College of New York and the first City University 

of New York graduate to lead City College. Since joining City College in 2010, Dr. Coico has 

overseen a resurgence in academic excellence, student engagement and faculty enhancement 

for the benefit of its diverse student population. Through a comprehensive program emanating 

from her vast experience and embracing the input of students, staff, faculty, alumni, community 

leaders, and others, President Coico has significantly upgraded the quality of the academic 

experience and student life as a whole at City College.  

Major research projects throughout the STEM areas have been nurtured and increased academic emphasis on the 

extensive undergraduate and graduate offerings in liberal arts have attracted an increasingly high quality of 

students and faculty alike. 

Juana Reina's work is distinguished by more than 30 years of experience as a senior student 

affairs officer in various higher education sectors including allied health, four‐year public and 

private colleges, community colleges and the ivy leagues. Her work is informed by over 25 years 

of service to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, where she is an accreditation 

evaluator for all aspects of student affairs at both two and four year institutions.  

At City College, Vice President Reina has reorganized the Division of Student Affairs and has 

worked with talented colleagues and students to create programs aimed at fostering the professional development 

of the whole student, providing holistic support for student wellbeing in challenging times, and at increasing 

engagement among students, their families, staff and faculty. The work of the Division is based on a commitment 

to the idea that experiences outside the classroom are valuable opportunities for learning, personal and 

professional growth that can aid retention and foster academic success. 

                                   The City College of New York Athletics Department is proud to announce Dr. Kevin Abdur‐               

                                   Rahman as Director of Athletics.  Dr. Abdur‐Rahman began his 21 years of service at City College 

                                   as the Director of the Herman Goldman Center for Sports & Recreation, our former athletic  

                                   field.  In 1994 he founded the Wingate Fitness Center, which was the first state of the art fitness 

                                   facility on the campus of the City College of New York.  Dr. Kevin Abdur‐Rahman is a  

                                   Philadelphia native who grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.  He is a 1970  

                                   graduate of Germantown High School.  He began his career working with young people in the 

mid‐1980's by becoming a community organizer for an agency called Crisis Intervention Network.  Crisis 

Intervention was founded to address the problems of gang violence in the city of Philadelphia.  He received a 

Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University and a Doctor of Education degree from Temple 

University.  In 1988 Dr. Rahman founded a delinquency prevention program called Total Response, Inc.  Total 

Response was a non‐profit organization committed to the development and coordination of youth motivational 

programs, using athletics as a methodology.  Dr. Rahman served as an assistant with the Simon Gratz H.S. men's 

basketball team. This experience led to the subject of his doctoral dissertation.

Men’s Basketball Program Overview and Highlights 

 

The City College of New York men's basketball team is looking to take a major step forward in the 

2014‐2015 season in Head Coach Tom Green's fourth year at the helm of the program. The 

Beavers (7‐19 last season, 3‐13 in the CUNYAC) experienced great turnover last season, but will 

look to key returners to provide leadership this year.  Senior forward Anthony Lewis, with a 

career average of 17.9 points per game, will start the season at power forward. Lewis, last 

season's leading scorer and rebounder, needs just 372 points to reach 1000 for his career.  

Sophomore Khalil Hamer had a brilliant rookie season last year, averaging 10.8 points and 5.6 

rebounds in just 14 games. 

Head Men’s Basketball Coach: Tom Green 

Green’s resume includes a long list of accomplishments, 

primarily from his time as the head coach at Farleigh 

Dickinson University. There, he served as the head coach for 

26 years, and became the winningest coach in the 

conference and institution’s history.  He produced seven 20‐

win seasons at FDU and took his team to four NCAA Division 

I National Tournaments.

Women’s Basketball Program Overview and Highlights 

The City College of New York women's basketball team is under new management this year 

under Head Coach Jamie Angeli, and are ready to make a move this season. The Beavers (10‐16 

overall in 2013‐2014, 5‐11 in the CUNYAC) are looking to break out of the first round of the 

conference playoffs and compete in the CUNYAC final four.  Angeli will have three returners, 

beginning with junior Bria Fisher. Fisher averaged 12.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game last 

year, and is currently 384 points away from reaching the thousand‐point threshold.  Junior Taylor 

Pompilio returns as the team's starting point guard, having started 22 games last season. 

Pompilio has worked hard this offseason, making her a stronger point guard and overall player. 

Head Women’s Basketball Coach: Jamie Angeli 

CCNY Athletics announced the promotion of 30‐year coaching 

veteran Jamie Angeli as the Head Coach of its women's 

basketball program in August of 2014.  Angeli has worked as 

an assistant coach in the NCAA division one ranks under 

several decorated head coaches, including St. John's Steve 

Lavin, South Florida's Stan Heath, Miami’s Jim Larranga, Green 

Bay’s Kevin Borseth, Seattle U’s Joan Bonvicini and former 

NBA and Bradley University head coach Stan Albeck.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York men's and women's indoor track and field teams are poised to have another dominant season this year.  The men's team will be led by an All‐Star trio with senior Peter DeHazya, junior Steve Baker and sophomore Jeckesan Mejia. The trio will provide leadership to one of the largest and most talented recruiting classes in the program's history as they look to win a fifth consecutive conference title. The men were voted the preseason choice to win the CUNYAC Championship in a poll by conference choices.  "We're honored the conference coaches recognize the strength of the program," said CCNY Head Coach Hugh Reid. "We look forward to raising the profile of the CUNYAC on the national level, and hope our continued success will draw even more exceptional scholar athletes."  CUNYAC coaches vote on the preseason award, which CCNY won with 16 points.     The CCNY women were picked to finish second in the voting, missing the top spot by one point to Hunter College. The Beavers are in the hunt to claim their sixth women's championship and their first since the 2012‐2013 season. They return several exceptional student‐athletes, most notably sophomore Ashley Beaver, who won two events at championships last year as a freshman. Beaver was voted Women's Preseason Performer of the Year for this season, coming off a year where she set school and freshmen records in the shot put with a distance of 39'0.5" and in the weight throw with a range of 47'5".  "I am honored that I would be selected by the coaches for this," said Beaver. "I am glad that all of my effort last year led up to this moment and I am going to make sure that I don't disappoint this year." 

Head Men’s and Women’s Coach: Hugh Reid

Hugh Reid has served as head coach of the City College of New York track and field program and cross‐country teams since the fall of 2010.  CCNY’s track and field program has been the cream of the CUNYAC since Reid’s arrival, winning the men’s indoor and outdoor conference championships three times each (2011, 2012, 2013) while securing the women’s indoor conference championship in 2011 and 2013 and outdoor championship in 2011.

Mark Hurst has been an assistant coach of the City College of New York track and field and cross‐country teams since the Fall of 2009.  In that time, Hurst has helped develop three All‐Americans, along with a multitude of CUNYAC and CTC champions. Prior to coming the CCNY, Hurst was an assistant coach at Hunter College, where he helped train several conference all‐stars.

Women’s Fencing Program Overview and Highlights

The City College of New York women’s fencing team is gearing up for another successful season under head coach Paul Yuen. Yuen and his staff were recognized by the EWFC with a Coaching Staff of the Year award.  Klarissa Armada was the 2014 EWFC Foil Fencer of the Year last season and is projected to make even greater strides this year. She is joined by fellow EWFC All‐Stars Anna Kornak and Judine Watkis, both competing in the Epee events. CCNY’s Epee squad placed third in the NIWFA Championships. Sophomore Wynne van der Veen also returns to the team, and is expected to greatly boost the Beavers’ foil squad.   

Head Women’s Fencing Coach: Paul Yuen

Paul Yuen has been the head coach of the City College of New York women’s fencing team since the 2006‐2007 season, having served as the assistant coach for two years prior.  Under Yuen’s leadership, the Beavers have been one of the premier programs in Division III women’s fencing, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals every season he’s been with the program. Yuen is a graduate of CCNY, where he competed with the men’s fencing team, earning the most outstanding fencer of the year award in 1994.
